Energy based method for fatigue damage prediction of rubber fibre composites and the influence of different modelling techniques on the method resultsOman, Simon, 1979- ; Nagode, Marko ; Klemenc, JernejThis article describes an advanced method of continuous fatigue damage prediction of rubber fibre composite structures. Anovel multiaxial enerqy-based approach incorporating a mean stress correction ... is presented and also used to show the influence of modelling techniques on the fatigue life prediction of rubber fibre composite. It is shown that the simplest modelling method, which uses only 2D elements with rebar layers provides wrong critical location and also significant deviation of the predicted fatigue life from the measured one. On the other hand modelling methods using 3D matrix and discrete reinforcements provides much better results. The predicted critical location corresponds to the measured one, although the predicted fatigue life stili deviates from the measurement results. The most complex microscopic modelling method shows the best agreement between the predicted and measured fatigue life. Since microscopic modelling is not suitable for the modelling of larger products due to its complexity (very small discretization) it is also pointed out that modelling techniques with 3D matrix and discrete reinforcement elements can be used with the same accuracy, if lifetime curves are obtained by measurements on the composite material and not on the critical base material (rubber) itself.Source: VAL4 (Str. 567-576)Type of material - conference contributionPublish date - 2020Language - englishCOBISS.SI-ID - 21981955
