  • Feasibility study of forming of tailored blanks in conventional tools
Pepelnjak, Tomaž ; Kuzman, Karl, 1941-
Increased complexity of products made from sheet metal has led to development of contemporary technologies and concepts including the tailored blanking. Main research work in this field is oriented ... into the optimisation of products and forming processes of tailored blanks where the tools with segmented blankholders are used. The paper presents the forming of tailored blanks in tools with conventional blankholders which represents an alternative forming of tailored blanks. Technological parameters for quality forming of tailored blanks in conventional tools have been defined. The basis of the investigations has been wrinkling of the product flange and the wall of the workpiece which can appear due to use of conventional blankholder. For a low carbon steel DC04EK the technological window for the forming of rotational and non-rotational products has been determined with experiments and FEM analyses. The comparative evaluation of experimental data and FEM analysis has been performed to verify the accuracy of virtual forming of tailored blanks in CAE environment. This verification enables the necessary corrections of FEM simulations to obtain better results in future virtual product development. The use of CAE tools with an emphasis of tearing and wrinkling prediction during the forming of tailored blanks in conventional tools has been proven on symmetrical industrial part - inner oven door panel.
