  • Effect of blade modifications on axial fan psychoacoustics [Elektronski vir]
    Novaković, Tadej ...
Fans are found in almost every machine or appliance. During their operation, they usually cause unwanted noise. Methods to reduce fan noise almost always focus on optimizing the geometry of the rotor ... blades. Much attention is also paid to methods of reducing casing vibration. Gradually, the sound power levels of fans are dropping to a level that cannot be further reduced using the classical design approach. This calls for a completely new and alternative approach to fan and blower design. Over the years, several studies have been conducted on adding geometric features to fan blades to improve energy efficiency and reduce noise levels. In this paper, we present the effects of these modifications on psychoacoustic annoyance in addition to energy parameters and sound power level. The study provides information on how the different blade geometries affect the noise annoyance over the entire operating range. It is found that noise annoyance isn't always correlated with sound power levels. Some modifications have a profound effect on noise annoyance as well as energy characteristics of axial fans.
