The Pauli exclusion principle (PEP) represents one of the basic principles of the modern physics. Even if there are no compelling reasons to doubt its validity, it still spurs a lively debate, ...because an intuitive, elementary explanation is still missing, and because of its unique stand among the basic symmetries of physics. A new limit on the probability that PEP is violated by electrons was estabilished by the VIP (VIolation of the Pauli exclusion principle) Collaboration, using the method of searching for PEP forbidden atomic transitions in copper. The preliminary value, ½ β2 <6 × 10-29, represents an improvement of more than two orders of magnitude of the previous limit. The goal of VIP is to push this limit at the level of 10-30.

The capture of scintillation light emitted by liquid Argon and Xenon under molecular excitations by charged particles is still a challenging task. Here we present a first attempt to design a device ...able to have a sufficiently high photon detection efficiency, in order to reconstruct the path of ionizing particles. The study is based on the use of masks to encode the light signal combined with single-photon detectors, showing the capability to detect tracks over focal distances of about tens of centimeters. From numerical simulations it emerges that it is possible to successfully decode and recognize signals, even of rather complex topology, with a relatively limited number of acquisition channels. Thus, the main aim is to elucidate a proof of principle of a technology developed in very different contexts, but which has potential applications in liquid argon detectors that require a fast reading. The findings support us to think that such innovative technique could be very fruitful in a new generation of detectors devoted to neutrino physics.

The VIP2 experiment tests the Pauli Exclusion Principle with high sensitivity, by searching for Pauli-forbidden atomic transitions from the 2p to the 1s shell in copper at about 8keV. The transition ...energy of Pauli-forbidden Kα X-rays is shifted by about 300 eV with respect to the normal allowed Kα line. This energy difference can be resolved using Silicon Drift Detectors. The data for this experiment is taken in the Gran Sasso underground laboratory (LNGS), which provides shielding from cosmic radiation. An overview of the detection system of the VIP2 experiment will be given. This includes the Silicon Drift Detectors used as X-ray detectors which provide an energy resolution of around 150 eV at 6 keV and timing information for active shielding. Furthermore, the low maintenance requirement makes them excellent X-ray detectors for the use in an underground laboratory. The VIP2 setup will be discussed which consists of a high current target system and a passive as well as an active shielding system using plastic scintillators read out by Silicon Photomultipliers.

The KLOE calorimeter is a fine lead-scintillating fiber sampling calorimeter. We describe in the following the calibration procedures and the calorimeter performances obtained after 3 years of data ...taking. We get an energy resolution for electromagnetic showers of

RAP is an experiment aimed to measure the effects caused by high-energy electrons impinging on bulk superconductors. The motivation is the anomalous high-energy cosmic ray rate detected by the ...gravitational wave antenna NAUTILUS when operated in superconducting regime.
We have measured the cross section σ(e+e−→π+π−γ) at an energy W=mϕ=1.02 GeV with the KLOE detector at the electron–positron collider DAΦNE. From the dependence of the cross section on the invariant ...mass of the two-pion system, we extract σ(e+e−→π+π−) for the mass range 0.35<s<0.95 GeV2. From this result, we calculate the pion form factor and the hadronic contribution to the muon anomaly, aμ.
