Background: Cardiovascular risk assessment is essential in the research of extraaural effects of noise. The thalamo-amygdaloid tract is one of the main auditory system components, leading to the ...sympathetic and endocrine system activation when exposed to noise. Conclusions: Noise effects on the stress hormone level do not have proven direct clinical weight on cardiovascular health. There is insufficient evidence of noise exposure consequences to an evolving cardiovascular system in children. There is also insufficient evidence of the noise impact on the mean blood pressure increase in adults. Studies on aviation noise and hypertension consistently show a relatively higher risk in more exposed areas, whereas this can not be said of the road traffic noise and hypertension prevalence relationship. Cross-section through the published studies has shown an increased risk of ischemic heart disease in people who live in areas with an average daily noise levels above 60 dBA.
Epilepsy poses a risk for all participants in road traffic; therefore people with epilepsy do not meet the criteria for an unlimited driving license. Their driving is affected not only by epileptic ...seizures causing impaired consciousness and involuntary movements, but also by antiepileptic drugs with their many unwanted affects. The experts have not yet agreed on whether people with epilepsy have an increased risk of experiencing a road traffic accident. However, recent data suggests that the overall risk is lower compared to other medical conditions. Scientific evidence forms the basis of legislation, which by limiting people with epilepsy, enables all participants in road traffic to drive in the safest possible environment. The legislation that governs epilepsy and driving in Slovenia has been recently thoroughly reformed and thus allows a less discriminatory management of people with epilepsy. Although people with epilepsy experience many issues in their daily life, including their personal relationships and employment, they often list the need for driving as a top concern in surveys. General physicians play an important role in managing the issues of people with epilepsy.

Colophony is a resin, obtained from pine trees. It is used in industry and in products for everyday life as well, so the exposure to it is actually very hard to avoid. In this paper, we have focused ...us on occupational exposure, which is frequent in electronic workers, in furniture and paper industries, in the production of adhesives, plastics, printing ink and synthetic synthetic rubber as well. Exposure is also frequent by those who are daily in contact with products, which contain colophony or in contact with pinewood (e.g. carpenters and woodworkers). The main allergens are oxidation products of abietic-type acids, but cross-reactivity with fragrances, wood resins, Balsam of Peru, wood tar and oil of turpentine is also possible. In allergic patients, exposure to colophony manifests itself on the skin , mainly as allergic contact dermatitis. The diagnosis is based on history of exposure, clinical presentation and epicutaneous testing. Although the only eective treatment is complete avoidance of exposure, it is difficult to avoid colophony. Consequently, prophylaxis based on safe working practices, personal hygiene and protection is essential.
Oxidative hair dyes are the most important hair dying products. Hairdressers are exposed to the allergens found in oxidative hair dyes during the process of applying dyes to the hair, when cutting ...freshly dyed hair, or as a consequence of prior contamination of the working environment. pphenylenediamine, toluene-2,5-diamine and its sulphate are the most common ingredients in oxidative hair dyes that cause allergic contact dermatitis in hairdressers. Cross-reactivity of p-phenylenediamine with para-amino benzoic acid, sulphonamides, sulphonylurea, dapsone, azo dyes, benzocaine, procaine, and black henna temporary tattoos is possible. Allergic contact dermatitis is classified as delayed-type hypersensitivity, according to Coombs and Gell. Skin changes typically appear on the hands after previous sensitization to causative allergens. Combined with the patient's overall medical and work history and clinical picture, epicutaneous testing is the basic diagnostic procedure for confirming the diagnosis and identifying the causative allergens. The simplest and most effective measure for preventing the occurrence of allergic contact dermatitis in hairdressers is prevention. Preventive measures should be applied as early as in the beginning stage of vocational guidance for this profession. It is important to include health education in the process of professional training and to implement general technical safety measures, in order to reduce sensitization to allergens in hairdressing. Here, special emphasis must be given to the correct use of protective gloves. Legislation must limit the concentration of allergenic substances in hair dyes, based on their potential hazards documented by scientific research. PUBLICATION ABSTRACT
Abstract For many years medical studies have implicated bicycle riding is causing erectile dysfunction (ED) in association with higher perineal pressure. This review focuses upon epidemiological ...studies assesing the impact of cycling on ED, pathogenesis of ED in cyclists as well as on research considering changes of perineal pressure, hemodynamics and nerve conduction when cycling. Investigestors were also interested in different saddle sizes, materials and geometry and also in the impact of saddle and riders position on changes to the perineum. Research on female cyclists is very limited but indicates similar genitourinary disorders as in male cyclists. We also review research on preventative and therapeutic options regarding bicycle riding and ED.
To identify population groups at risk of non-use of seat belts in front and rear seats in order to enable more focused planning of preventive actions in Slovenia.
The national health behaviour survey ...of 15,379 adults aged 25-64, carried out in 2001; response rate 64%; 9043 questionnaires eligible for analysis. The observed outcomes: non-use of seat belts in the front and rear seats. Logistic regression was used for relating gender, age, education level, socio-economic factors and geographical region to the observed outcomes.
Non-use of seat belts in the front seats: 5.7%; the highest odds: males (OR(males vs. females)= 1.89, p < 0.001), aged 25-29 (OR(25-29 vs. 50-59) = 2.68, p < 0.001), the lowest education level (OR(uncompleted primary vs. university education) = 2.77, p = 0.001), upper social class (OR(upper vs. lower) = 3.54, p = 0.014), western Slovenia (OR(western vs. eastern) = 1.31, p = 0.027). Non-use of seat belts in the rear seats: 65.2%; the highest odds: aged 25-29 (OR(25-29 vs. 6-64) = 2.83, p < 0.001), vocational (OR(vocational vs. university education) = 1.36, p = 0.005) and secondary education level (OR(secondary vs. university education) = 1.36, p = 0.003), western Slovenia (OR(western vs. eastern) = 1.37, p < 0.001).
Both observed outcomes are a problem particularly in younger age groups with secondary education level or lower, living in western Slovenia; non-use of seat belts in the front seats also in males and in upper social class.

Women of childbearing potential and pregnant women are particularly vulnerable and deserve special attention in terms of occupational safety. Work environment can affect fertility, pregnancy and ...birth. Today we know many different harmful factors that can adversely affect a mother-to-be and her unborn child, and the data on the impact of certain factors on fertility is increasing. There is evidence that certain physical, chemical and biological factors are harmful for reproductive health. Today many researchers focus their work on the adverse effects of psychosocial stress.
