In the 2001/02 growing season 16 field experiments were conducted in the main cotton producing regions of the state of São Paulo to evaluate the performance of 12 cotton genotypes for yield, fiber quality and resistance to six diseases of the crop. A randomized complete block design with four replications, which were represented by two five-meter-long rows now used. Substantial differences between genotypes were observed for both cotton seed and fiber. Although outstanding in some genotypes, the fiber percentage was not a determining factor of fiber yield per area. Among the 12 genotypes studied, only 'CNPA ITA 90' and 'BRS IPÃ' presented good index of resistance to the ramularia. On the other hand, 'IAC 24' presented good index for Fusarium, nematodes and ramulose, the three more destructible diseases. Most of the evalueted cultivars and lines were susceptible to one or more diseases; none of them showed multiple resistance to all diseases. Key words: Gossypium hirsutum, yield, pathogens.

In Sao Paulo State, Brazil, peanut has been cultivated in rotation with sugarcane and pasture in two regions with different soil type and climate conditions. Nowadays, due to the increase of sugarcane area harvested without burning and the crop-livestock integration systems, the peanut growers have a great opportunity to plant in the conservation tillage, mainly in no-tillage system. Considering the specific morphological and physiological characteristic of peanut plant, the aims of this research were to study the agronomic characteristics and nutrient contents of two different peanut cultivars in three tillage systems in rotation with sugarcane and pasture, as well as their effects in some chemical, physical and microbiological soil attributes. Twelve field experiments were conducted from 1999/2000 to 2004/2005, at the followings places: Ribeirão Preto (Oxisoil), Pindorama (Ultisoil) and Mirassol (Ultisoil). Seven trials were installed on sugarcane straw and five in rotation with pasture, which were situated at APTA experimental station. Tillage treatments were arranged in split-plot randomized complete block design with four replications. The main plots were the tillage treatments (conventional, reduced and no-tillage) while the subplots were peanut cultivars (IACTatu ST and IAC-Caiapó). In the conventional tillage, soil was turned with a moldboard plow and disked. Reduced tillage was made with subsoiler shank (ASTMATIC 450 , Tatu Marchesan) after the herbicide application. In no-tillage systems, the sugarcane plant and pasture were killed with glyphosate (2.4 kg a.i.ha-1). Some agronomic characteristics (pod and kernels yield, percentage of sound mature kernels, plant density and dry matter of root in different layers), nodulation (number and dry matter) and nutrient contents (N,P, K, Ca, Mg, S, Cu, Mn, Zn) in plants were evaluated...(Complete abstract, acess undermentioned eletronic adress)
ABSTRACT Estimating stability and adaptability parameters of cultivars is a widely used study to access the genotype × environment interaction, in order to identify the best genotypes for each ...cultivation area. In this study, the adaptability and stability parameters were estimated in eight high-oleic lines and two peanut cultivars in 11 experiments in the State of São Paulo, Brazil, from 2008 to 2013, based on the data of the plots mean productivity (Kg·ha–1), with the objective of recommending the most productive genotypes in peanut producing regions in the State of São Paulo. The design used for these experiments was the randomized complete blocks, with four replications. Lines L. 599 and L. 551 were the best genotypes regarding overall adaptability and stability in yield, considering the methods of Eberhart and Russell and of Lin and Binns modified by Carneiro. Results produced by both methods were convergent as for the classification of the lines, and the use of one of them would not be detrimental to the recommendation of productive lines associated to production adaptability and stability. The overall adaptability in addition to the stability in the productivity of the lines here evaluated showed outstanding performance in relation to the cultivars IAC Caiapó and Runner IAC 886.
The objective of this work was to evaluate the effects of the inoculation with plant growth-promoting bacteria on the formation of sugarcane pre-sprouted seedlings, originated from individual buds, and to quantify the initial growth of these seedlings in association with nitrogen application, in a low fertility soil. Two experiments were carried out: one in greenhouse conditions, with a time span of 50 days, and the other in vases under field conditions, with a time span of 180 days. In both experiments, a randomized complete block design was used with a factorial arrangement of 2x3, in the first experiment - with or without inoculation, and with three quantities of bud reserve -, and of 2x2x4, in the second one - with or without inoculation, with or without nitrogen, evaluated in four times: at 45, 90, 135, and 180 days. The inoculant had effect on the initial growth of the pre-sprouted seedlings, increasing sprouting speed and dry matter accumulation on roots and shoots, regardless of the bud reserve amount. In the second experiment, the inoculant increased the initial growth of shoots and root system up to 180 days after transplantation, increasing height, tillering, stalk diameter, dry matter production of stalks and straw, and root length, regardless of nitrogen application. The inoculant has a positive physiological effect on plant growth.

Twenty three samples, belonging to 19 corn cultivars with distinct types of germoplasms, endosperm and length of vegetative cycle, were analyzed for fumonisins B1 and B2. The cultivars were grown in ...experimental fields in three locations (Votuporanga, Ribeirão Preto and Capão Bonito) within the State of São Paulo, Brazil, during the 97/98 crop. All samples were contaminated with fumonisins with concentrations ranging from 1.63 µg/g to 25.69 µg/g with an average of 5.61 µg/g for FB1 and from 0.38 µg/g to 8.60 µg/g with an average of 1.86 µg/g for FB2. In terms of fumonisins, these high levels put the corn cultivated in São Paulo among the most contaminated in the world reported to date.
