We present an update of the development of an electromagnetic calorimeter for the Silicon Detector concept for a future linear electron-positron collider. Mechanical progress for a full barrel ...calorimeter that provides a more complete basis for simulation is discussed. Crosstalk problems in the first version of the sensor were found in a first testbeam study, and a second version of the sensor is now beginning testing.
This work represents the second step of the development of a new concept of photovoltaic/thermal (PV/T) collector. This type of collector combines preheating of the air and the production of hot ...water in addition to the classical electrical function of the solar cells. The alternate positioning of the thermal solar collector section and the PV section permits the production of water at higher mean temperatures than most of existing hybrid collectors. These higher temperatures will allow the coupling of components such as solar cooling devices during the summer and obviously a direct domestic hot water (DHW) system without the need for additional auxiliary heating systems. In this paper, a simplified steady-state two-dimensional mathematical model of a PV/T bi-fluid (air and water) collector with a metal absorber is developed. Then, a parametric study (numerically and experimentally) is undertaken to determine the effect of various factors such as the water mass flow rate on the solar collector thermal performances. Finally, the results from an experimental test bench and the first simulation results obtained on full scale experiments are compared.
In this study, we identify factors associated with the choice to seek admission into a limited-enrollment undergraduate finance program. Using a sample of 796 students at a large university, we ...assess the impact of potential explanatory factors on the likelihood students will seek admission to a finance major. The data are gathered prior to the admissions decision. Thus, we avoid the selection/treatment endogeneity of most previous studies. In univariate and pairwise difference tests, we find positive correlation between a student’s desire to study finance and their level of motivation, work ethic, quantitative strength, and pro-finance social support. In a multivariate specification which adds demographic control variables, the data show motivation, work ethic, age, gender, and marital status to be statistically significant determinants. Our findings suggest that the main attributes of students who seek to become finance majors follow a workhorse paradigm: motivated and hard working.

GeV–3 TeV is presented in view of recent and expected LHC results, experiments from low-energy as well ...as astroparticle physics. The report focusses in particular on Higgs-boson, top-quark and electroweak precision physics, but also discusses several models of beyond the standard model physics such as supersymmetry, little Higgs models and extra gauge bosons. The connection to cosmology has been analysed as well.
