Designing metal‐organic framework (MOF)‐based catalysts with superior oxygen evolution reaction (OER) activity and robust durability simultaneously is highly required yet very challenging due to the ...limited intrinsic activity and their elusive evolution under harsh OER conditions. Herein, a steady self‐reconstructed MOF heterojunction is constructed via redox electrochemistry and topology‐guided strategy. Thanks to the inhibiting effect from hydrogen bonds of Ni‐BDC‐1 (BDC=1,4‐benzenedicarboxylic acid), the obatained MOF heterojunction shows greatly improved OER activity with low overpotential of 225 mV at 10 mA cm−2, relative to the totally reconstructed Ni‐BDC‐3 (332 mV). Density function theory calculations reveal that the formed built‐in electric field in the MOF heterojunction remarkably optimizes the ad/desorption free energy of active Ni sites. Moreover, such MOF heterojunction shows superior durability attributed to the shielding effect of the surface‐evolved NiOOH coating.

Cryptochrome 1 (CRY1), a main blue light receptor protein, plays a significant role in several biological processes. However, the expression patterns and function of CRY1 in strawberry have not been ...identified. Here, the expression profile of CRY1 in different tissues and developmental stages of strawberry fruit, and expression patterns response to abiotic stresses (low temperature, salt and drought) were analyzed. Its subcellular localization, interaction proteins and heterologous overexpression in tobacco were also investigated. The results showed that CRY1 was mainly expressed in leaves and fruits with an expression peak at the initial red stage in strawberry fruit. Abiotic stresses could significantly induce the expression of CRY1. The CRY1 protein was located in both nucleus and cytoplasm. Five proteins (CSN5a-like, JAZ5, eIF3G. NF-YC9, and NDUFB9) interacting with CRY1 were discovered. Genes related flowering times, such as HY5 and CO, in three overexpressed FaCRY1 tobacco lines, were significantly upregulated. Taken together, our results suggested CRY1 have a broad role in biological processes in strawberry.

Two new cadinane sesquiterpenes named myrrhterpenes A and B (1, 2), along with eighteen known analogs were isolated from the resin of Commiphora myrrha. Their structures were determined by various NMR and MS spectrometry analysis, as well as by comparison with related compounds. Anti-inflammatory activity with LPS-induced RAW 264.7 macrophages revealed that two new compounds displayed potent inhibition on nitric oxide production.
Retinal degeneration (RD) is a significant cause of incurable blindness worldwide. Photoreceptors and retinal pigmented epithelium are irreversibly damaged in advanced RD. Functional replacement of ...photoreceptors and/or retinal pigmented epithelium cells is a promising approach to restoring vision. This paper reviews the current status and explores future prospects of the transplantation therapy provided by pluripotent stem cell-derived retinal organoids (ROs). This review summarizes the status of rodent RD disease models and discusses RO culture and analytical tools to evaluate RO quality and function. Finally, we review and discuss the studies in which RO-derived cells or sheets were transplanted. In conclusion, methods to derive ROs from pluripotent stem cells have significantly improved and become more efficient in recent years. Meanwhile, more novel technologies are applied to characterize and validate RO quality. However, opportunity remains to optimize tissue differentiation protocols and achieve better RO reproducibility. In order to screen high-quality ROs for downstream applications, approaches such as noninvasive and label-free imaging and electrophysiological functional testing are promising and worth further investigation. Lastly, transplanted RO-derived tissues have allowed improvements in visual function in several RD models, showing promises for clinical applications in the future.
The molecular mechanism of denervated muscle atrophy is very complex and has not been elucidated to date. Transcriptome sequencing technology was used to analyze the differentially expressed genes (DEGs) in denervated skeletal muscles. Unsupervised hierarchical clustering of DEGs was performed. Gene Ontology (GO) and the Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) pathway enrichment analysis was used to analyze the DEGs.
Results showed that 2,749 transcripts were up-regulated, and 2,941 transcripts were down-regulated in denervated tibialis anterior (TA) muscles after 14 days of denervation. The up-regulated expressed genes were analyzed through GO and the results demonstrated that biological processes of the up-regulated expressed genes included apoptotic process, cellular response to DNA damage stimulus, aging, and protein ubiquitination; the cellular component of the up-regulated expressed genes included cytoplasm, cytoskeleton, and nucleus; and the molecular function of the up-regulated expressed genes included ubiquitin-protein transferase activity and hydrolase activity. The KEGG pathway of the up-regulated expressed genes included ubiquitin mediated proteolysis, Fc gamma R-mediated phagocytosis, and transforming growth factor-beta (TGF-β) signaling pathway. The biological processes of the down-regulated expressed genes included angiogenesis, tricarboxylic acid cycle, adenosine triphosphate (ATP) biosynthetic process, muscle contraction, gluconeogenesis; the cellular component of the down-regulated expressed genes included mitochondrion, cytoskeleton, and myofibril; and the molecular function of the down-regulated expressed genes included nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide plus hydrogen (NADH) dehydrogenase (ubiquinone) activity, proton-transporting ATP synthase activity, ATP binding, electron carrier activity, cytochrome-c oxidase activity, and oxidoreductase activity. The KEGG pathway of the down-regulated expressed genes included oxidative phosphorylation, tricarboxylic acid cycle, glycolysis/gluconeogenesis, and the PI3K-Akt signaling pathway.
A huge number of DEGs were identified in TA muscles after denervation. The up-regulated expressed genes mainly involve in proteolysis, apoptosis, and ageing. The down-regulated expressed genes mainly involve in energy metabolism, angiogenesis, and protein synthesis. This study further enriched the molecular mechanism of denervation-induced muscle atrophy.
To compare the effect of propofol and sevoflurane on perioperative immunity and surgical outcomes in patients undergoing laparoscopic radical resection of colorectal cancer.
During September 2012 to ...April 2014 in Sir Run Run Shaw Hospital, thirty patients scheduled for laparoscopic colorectal cancer radical resection were randomly assigned into two groups: propofol TCI anesthesia and sevoflurane inhale anesthesia. To examine the association of environmental exposure to PBDEs with risk of all-cause and cause-specific mortality.
This nationally representative cohort study used data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey 2003 to 2004 and linked mortality information through December 31, 2019. Adults aged 20 years or older with available data on PBDE measurements and mortality were included. Statistical analysis was performed from February 2022 to April 2023.
PBDE analytes in serum samples were measured using solid phase extraction and isotope dilution gas chromatography high-resolution mass spectrometry.

This study included 1100 participants (mean SE age, 42.9 0.6 years; proportion SE female, 51.8% 1.6%; proportion SE Hispanic, 12.9% 2.7%; proportion SE non-Hispanic Black, 10.5% 1.6%; proportion SE non-Hispanic White, 70.8% 3.7%; proportion SE other race and ethnicity, 5.8% 1.1%). During 16 162 person-years of follow-up (median IQR follow-up, 15.8 15.2-16.3 years; maximum follow-up, 17 years), 199 deaths occurred. Participants with higher serum PBDE levels were at higher risk for death. After adjustment for age, sex, and race and ethnicity, lifestyle and socioeconomic factors, and body mass index, participants with the highest tertile of serum PBDE levels had an approximately 300% increased risk of cancer mortality (HR, 4.09 95% CI, 1.71-9.79) compared with those with the lowest tertile of serum PBDE levels. No significant association of PBDE exposure with all-cause mortality (HR, 1.43 95% CI, 0.98-2.07) or cardiovascular mortality (HR, 0.92 95% CI, 0.41-2.08) was observed.
In this nationally representative cohort study, PBDE exposure was significantly associated with an increased risk of cancer mortality. Further studies are needed to replicate the findings and determine the underlying mechanisms.
Background: Digestive system cancers (DSCs) have been recognized to be linked with high morbidity and mortality. Recent studies have reported that microRNA-10b (miR-10b) is abnormally expressed in ...DSCs and associated with prognosis. However, the inconclusive results and unknown underlying mechanisms promoted us to perform this study. Methods: We systematic searched several databases for eligible studies and conducted quantitative analysis for evidence regarding the associations between miR-10b and survival outcome of DSCs. We also performed a series of bioinformatics analyses to uncover the potential mechanisms. Results: A total of 32 eligible studies with 3392 patients were included. Increased miR-10b expression was linked with unfavorable overall survival (OS) in DSCs (HR=1.72; 95% CI: 1.30-2.27; P < 0.001). When stratified by tumor type, the impact of miR-10b overexpression on poor prognosis was observed in colorectal cancer, gastric cancer, hepatocellular carcinoma, and esophageal carcinoma, but not in pancreatic cancer. Subsequently, we predicted the targets of miR-10b and conducted functional enrichment analyses. The results disclosed that miR-10b targets were predominantly enriched in some vital biological terms and pivotal signaling pathways associated with tumor progression including cell cycle, FoxO, proteoglycans, central carbon metabolism, p53, Notch, HIF-1, focal adhesion, AMPK, and pancreatic cancer. Moreover, a protein-protein interaction (PPI) network was also constructed to identify the top ten hub genes and significant modules and demonstrated the underlying interactions among them. Conclusion: Our results indicated that miR-10b could act as a significant biomarker in the prognosis DSCs. However, more research should be performed to test these findings.
