Most studies investigating residential segregation of ethnic minorities ignore the fact that the majority of adults live in couples. In recent years there has been a growth in the number of mixed ...ethnic unions that involve a minority member and a white member. To our knowledge, hardly any research has been undertaken to explicitly examine whether the ethnic mix within households has an impact on the residential choices of households in terms of the ethnic mix of destination neighbourhoods. Our study addresses this research gap and examines the tendencies of migration among mixed ethnic unions in comparison with their co-ethnic peers. We used data from the Longitudinal Study for England and Wales. Our statistical analysis supports the spatial assimilation theory: ethnic minorities move towards less deprived areas and to a lesser extent also towards less ethnically concentrated areas. However, the types of destination neighbourhood of minority people living in mixed ethnic unions varied greatly with the ethnicity of the ethnic minority partner.
Building on a long history of research on residential segregation, this chapter explores how mixed-ethnic couples contribute to changing ethnic geographies. The study uses data from the Longitudinal ...Study (LS) for England and Wales and is the first UK study to examine the influence of geographical context on the formation of mixed-ethnic unions. By using longitudinal data, the authors establish whether living in a mixed-ethnic neighbourhood makes it more likely for people to end up in mixed-ethnic unions.

Demographic changes in the Western world over the last few decades, such as later marriages, lower fertility, increasing divorce rates and rising rates of cohabitation, have brought about significant ...changes in household formation and composition. One outcome is a growing number of stepfamilies, where a parent, whether never married, separated, widowed or divorced, forms a new marriage or partnership. Nowadays, most stepfamilies result from divorce, while in the past they were more likely to result from widowhood.
A thinner cortex has higher potential for binding GABA receptor A which is associated with larger ampli- tudes of intrinsic brain activity (iBA). However, the rela- tionship between cortical ...thickness and iBA is unknown in intact and epileptic brains. To this end, we investigated the relationship between cortical thickness measured by highresolution MRI and surface-based iBA derived from resting-state functional MRI in normal controls (n = 82) and patients with generalized tonic-clonic seizures (GTCS) only (n = 82). We demonstrated that the spatial distribution of cortical thickness, negatively correlated with surface-based iBA amplitude at both whole-brain and within independent brain functional networks. In GTCS patients, spatial coupling between thickness and iBA amplitude decreased in the default mode, dorsal attention, and somatomotor networks. In addition, the vertex-wise across-subject thickness-iBA amplitude correspondence altered in the frontal and temporal lobes as well as in the precuneus in GTCS patients. The relationship between these two modalities can serve as a brain-based marker for detecting epileptogenic changes.
OBJECTIVE:To assess the acute organ toxicity of Strychnos nux-vomica with zebrafish model visually.METHODS:To assess acute toxicity,we initially determined the lethal concentration after Strychnos ...nux-vomica treatment for 24 h.Zebrafish was treated with five concentrations Strychnos nux-≦vo LC10 for 24 h,and the effects ofmica on morphology, function of heart, central nervous system, liver, kidney and organ-specific cell death were assessed.Next,we assessed the reversibility of toxic effect.RESULTS:Strychnos nux-vomica has an effect on the different organs of zebrafish, including heart, central nervous system, liver, and kidney, and cadiotoxicity induced by Strychnos nux-vomica was reversible to some extent.CONCLUSION:Zebrafish model is suitable for confirming the toxic target organs for Chinese traditional medicine.
An online information management system about the special vehicles enterprise is actualized for the enterprise architecture, the generalized business, and the key target of production management, in ...order to improve the production management level of the enterprise in this research. The system structure through integrated requirements is established for several aspects of the development processes by using the Zachman framework methodology. The information management system is developed based on the Java server pages(JSP) technology combined with the Struts framework, for implementing the manufacture management and supervision accurately and efficiently, and the management level of the enterprise would be more scientificalness and more informatization. The developed system can contributes to improving the work efficiency and production management level for the enterprise, reducing laboring hardness for the managers.
The PEM (Proton Exchange Membrane) fuel cell is a multi-layers structure which is constructed by different components in contact. In this work, we propose a 3D parametric numerical modeling which ...permits to investigate the mechanical effect of contact behavior concerned with the performance of a PEM fuel cell. Numerical results can help to increase the knowledge of fuel cell's performance and to determine the parameters for the structural design of a PEM fuel cell.
This paper argues that the Chinese pattern of urbanisation since 1978 is distinguished by dual-track urbanisation - state-sponsored urbanisation and spontaneous urbanisation, and that both tracks ...contribute significantly to the transformation of the spatial pattern of urbanisation. The Pearl River Delta region is chosen for a detailed analysis of the dual-track urbanisation in post-reform China. It is found that special economic zone (SEZ) cities are leading both state-sponsored and spontaneous urbanisation in the region, which is different from either large city or small town-based urbanisation advocated in the literature. Multivariate statistical analysis shows that factors affecting the two tracks of urbanisation are different and have changed over time. The level of economic development has an important impact on the level of the state-sponsored urbanisation, but is not significant to spontaneous urbanisation. Areas with fewer state owned enterprises (SOEs) have a higher level of spontaneous urbanisation. The non-state sector also became more important in the state-sponsored urbanisation of the 1990s. The water adsorption process by dough films at 20 and 40 ℃ was measured using a dynamic vapor sorption system under nine relative humidity (RH) levels. Water diffusivity was expressed as a function ...of water content and temperature according to the Vrentas & Duda free volume theory. The parameters of the free volume model were obtained by inversion of water content as a function of time. The results showed that the water diffusion coefficient determined based on the free volume theory could well simulate the water adsorption process by dough films at most water contents tested, but the predicted values were significantly lower than the actual ones at low water contents. Therefore, the Vrentas & Duda was improved by adding a free volume term as a function of water content. As the water content increased, the water diffusion coefficient slightly decreased initially, then increased, and finally increased rapidly. Finally, the mechanism of water diffusion at low water contents was discussed from the perspectives of β-transition and free volume changes.
Potato protein deaminated for different durations (0, 0.5, 3, 6 and 12 h) were used to prepare emulsions, and the products obtained were evaluated for droplet size distribution, emulsion stability, ...microrheological properties and microstructure. The results showed that the droplet volume mean diameter and Turbiscan stability index (TSI) of the emulsion decreased first and then increased with increasing deamidation time. The emulsions with potato protein deaminated for 3 and 6 h exhibited uniform droplet size distribution and good stability, which may be because the increased electrostatic repulsion between the modified protein emulsion droplets prevented their aggregation. The droplet size of the emulsion with potato protein deaminated for 12 h increased and the stability decreased, which may be because of the decreased charge repulsion force and consequent droplet aggregation. The microrheological analysis showed that the emulsion with potato protein deaminated for 6 h had the highest macroscopic viscosity index (MVI) value and the highest viscosity, and the speed of droplet movement was slowed down. There was a strong force between the emulsion droplets, which made the system more stable. This study can provide a reference for further research and development of potato protein products in order to improve the utilization rate of potato protein and expand the application range.
