The focus is on the main instruments installed on-board: a differential Global Position System (GPS) system and single beam echo sounder; inertial platform for attitude control; ultrasound obstacle-detection system with temperature control system; emerged and submerged video acquisition system. The results of two cases study are presented, both concerning areas (Sorrento Marina Grande and Marechiaro Harbour, both in the Gulf of Naples) characterized by a coastal physiography that impedes the execution of a bathymetric survey with traditional boats. In addition, those areas are critical because of the presence of submerged archaeological remains that produce rapid changes in depth values. The experiments confirm that the integration of the sensors improves the instruments' performance and survey accuracy.

Heavy metals such as mercury (Hg) pose a significant health hazard through bioaccumulation and biomagnification. By penetrating cell membranes, heavy metal ions may lead to pathological conditions. ...Here we examined the responses of Ammonia parkinsoniana, a benthic foraminiferan, to different concentrations of Hg in the artificial sea water. Confocal images of untreated and treated specimens using fluorescent probes (Nile Red and Acridine Orange) provided an opportunity for visualizing the intracellular lipid accumulation and acidic compartment regulation. With increased Hg over time, we observed an increased number of lipid droplets, which may have acted as a detoxifying organelle where Hg is sequestered and biologically inactivated. Further, Hg seems to promote the proliferation of lysosomes both in terms of number and dimension that, at the highest level of Hg, resulted in cell death. We report, for the first time, the presence of Hg within the foraminiferal cell: at the basal part of pores, in the organic linings of the foramen/septa, and as cytoplasmic accumulations.
Isolating cellulose from citrus processing waste without employing chemicals has so far been an unfulfilled goal of chemical research applied to the valorization of a widely available biowaste, ...annually totaling >100 million tonnes. We have applied hydrodynamic cavitation using a Venturi-type reactor for the extraction of all valued bioproducts of industrial citrus processing waste in water only, directly on a semi-industrial scale. After reporting the discovery of IntegroPectin in the soluble fraction of the aqueous extract, we now report the isolation of a cellulosic material in the water-insoluble fraction of cavitated lemon and grapefruit processing waste. Named "CytroCell", the material is cellulose of low crystallinity, high porosity, good water holding capacity and good dispersibility in water. These properties open the route to mass-scale production of a useful functional material from a cheap and abundant biowaste.
The present umbrella review aimed to characterize the type and regimen of antibiotics administered locally and/or systemically, alone or in combination with surgical and nonsurgical treatments, for ...peri-implantitis and to evaluate and compare the associated clinical, radiographic, and crevicular peri-implant outcomes. The secondary objective was to determine the most effective antibiotic type, route of administration, regimen, and protocols (antibiotics alone or in combination with other approaches) for treating peri-implantitis. The study protocol, which was developed in advance under the PRISMA statement, was registered at PROSPERO (CRD42022373957). BioMed Central, Scopus, MEDLINE/PubMed, the Cochrane Library databases, and the PROSPERO registry were searched for systematic reviews through 15 November 2022. Of the 708 records found, seven reviews were included; three were judged of a critically low and four of low quality through the AMSTAR 2 tool. Locally administered antibiotics alone or as an adjunct to surgical or nonsurgical treatments for peri-implantitis showed favorable outcomes, albeit with limited evidence. The administration of systemically-delivered antibiotics in combination with nonsurgical or surgical treatments remained questionable. Local plus systemic antibiotics have not been shown to have durable efficacy. Due to the heterogeneity of reported antibiotic types, routes, regimens, and protocols, no definitive conclusions could be drawn regarding the most effective antibiotic use in treating peri-implantitis.

An electronic search found a total of 1073 records, in particular, 842 from MEDLINE/PubMed, 13 from Bio Med Central, 160 from Scopus, 1 from the Cochrane library databases, and 57 from the PROSPERO register. A total of 17 studies were included in the present systematic review. Information regarding the characteristics of the periodontal clinical and radiographic parameters for gaseous ozone, ozonate water, ozonate oil, and ozone gel, including clinical attachment loss (CAL) probing depth (PPD), bleeding on probing (BoP), plaque index (PI), gingival index (GI), and marginal bone levels (MBL), were obtained.

The use of free gingival graft (FGG) and connective tissue graft (CTG) from the palate are among the most predictable periodontal and peri-implant plastic surgery procedures. However, palatal ...harvesting causes severe discomfort in the palatal area in patients undergoing harvesting. The aim of this umbrella review is to evaluate which products or techniques can result in fewer side effects and less morbidity in patients. Systematic reviews, with meta-analysis or not, about postoperative pain and wound healing in patients undergoing surgery to remove a free gingival graft or connective tissue graft from the palatal region, published only in the English language, were electronically searched for on BioMed Central, Scopus, MEDLINE/PubMed, the Cochrane library databases, and PROSPERO register. Of 1153 titles, only 7 articles were included in this review. The reviews included suggest that the more effective interventions for patient-reported outcomes, particularly for pain management, are cyanoacrylate adhesives, platelet-rich fibrin, hyaluronic acid, and the use of palatal stents. Low-level laser therapy also demonstrated good results in palatal wound healing speed after FGG procedures. Also, topical agents were also described. Future studies and more high-quality randomized clinical trials are needed to provide clear descriptions and standardized procedures of interventions to obtain clear results.
The aim of this umbrella review is to evaluate what are the most common medications and systemic diseases that can affect bone-implant integration, the success rate and survival rate of dental ...implants, peri-implant tissue health, and implant loss. Systematic reviews, with meta-analysis or not, about how systemic diseases and medications influence dental implant osseointegration, survival rate, success rate, and peri-implant diseases, published only in the English language, are electronically searched across the most important scientific databases. The present umbrella review includes eight systematic reviews, and osteoporosis and diabetes are the most investigated pathologies. Systemic diseases, such as neurologic disorders, HIV, hypothyroidism, cardiovascular diseases, and drugs, such as beta blockers, anti-hypertensives, or diuretics do not show a decreased rate of implant osseointegration. It seems that drugs, such as proton-pump inhibitors (PPIs) or serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs), negatively affect implant osseointegration. Few studies compare the effects of drugs and systemic diseases on the parameters considered in this overview. It is important to underline how the results of this review need to be validated with subsequent and more reviews.
Endodontic shaping can lead to canal and apical anatomical alterations, which may compromise the outcome of root canal treatment. The objective of this systematic literature review is to assess ...whether the use of martensitic endodontic instruments can result in less apical transportation compared to austenitic instruments during endodontic therapy. A search was conducted on PubMed, Ovid MEDLINE, and the Web of Science. The inclusion criteria were in vitro studies comparing apical transportation using endodontic instruments with austenitic or martensitic alloys. The search of the scientific databases yielded 592 results, of which only 10 were eligible for evaluation after screening. Based on the analysis of the selected articles, it can be concluded that martensitic endodontic instruments result in less apical transportation compared to austenitic instruments during the shaping phase of endodontic treatment. This behavior can be attributed to the increased flexibility of martensitic instruments. Further research is warranted to further explore this topic and provide additional evidence supporting the use of martensitic instruments in clinical practice.
The state of engineering systems changes in time due to the effect of gradual (e.g. corrosion, fatigue) and shock deterioration (e.g. earthquakes, floods, and tornados). At specified moments, for ...example, after a shock, decision-makers might wish to know the state of the system to take the optimal management action. Different data acquisition strategies such as inspections and continuous structural health monitoring (SHM) can help in the definition and prediction of the system state over time. The acquisition of information comes at a cost that must be balanced by the benefit it brings in terms of risk reduction. The value of information from Bayesian decision analysis quantifies the benefit provided by such information. This article proposes a formulation to compute the value of information of inspection and continuous SHM for degrading engineering systems. In the proposed formulation, the information collected before a given time is used to improve the prediction of the effects of gradual and shock deterioration processes and the future probability of failure. This article investigates the case study of a two-span reinforced concrete bridge degrading under the effect of chemical reactions and seismic actions.
