Understanding carbon emissions through the lens of population mobility is crucial for addressing sustainability challenges and fostering economic development. This study aims to investigate the ...influence of population mobility on carbon emissions in Australia, providing insights for targeted policy interventions. Utilizing panel datasets spanning from 2007 to 2020, encompassing both international and domestic migration in Australia, empirical analyses were conducted. The focus was on assessing the relationship between population mobility and regional carbon emissions. The study reveals distinct effects of domestic and international population mobility on carbon emissions. Domestic mobility demonstrates a negative correlation, whereas international mobility shows a positive association with carbon emissions. Moreover, significant regional heterogeneity in carbon emissions is observed, influenced by economic development and population size variations between eastern and western regions. These findings underscore the importance of tailored emission reduction strategies based on the nature of population mobility. By elucidating the intricate dynamics between mobility patterns and carbon emissions, this study contributes to a nuanced understanding of CO 2 emission trends, informing policy decisions amidst the challenges posed by global climate change.
Thermal barrier coatings (TBCs) produced by electron beam physical vapor deposition (EB-PVD) or plasma spray (PS) usually suffer from molten calcium-magnesium-alumino-silicate (CMAS) attack. In this ...study, columnar structured YSZ coatings were fabricated by plasma spray physical vapor deposition (PS-PVD). The coatings were CMAS-infiltrated at 1250 °C for short terms (1, 5, 30 min). The wetting and spreading dynamics of CMAS melt on the coating surface was in-situ investigated using a heating microscope. The results indicate that the spreading evolution of CMAS melt can be described in terms of two stages with varied time intervals and spreading velocities. Besides, the PS-PVD columnar coating (∼100 μm thick) was fully penetrated by CMAS melt within 1 min. After the CMAS attack for 30 min, the original feathered-YSZ grains (tetragonal phase) in both PS-PVD and EB-PVD coatings were replaced by globular shaped monoclinic ZrO2 grains in the interaction regions.
Constructing molecule@support composites is an attractive strategy to realize heterogeneous molecular electrocatalysis. Herein, we synthesized metal-organic framework (MOF)-supported molecular ...catalysts for hydrogen evolution and oxygen reduction reaction (HER/ORR). Ligand exchange strategy was used to prepare molecule@support hybrids due to the same functional group. A series of hybrids were obtained using Co porphyrin (1) and different MOFs including MIL-88(Fe), MOF-5(NiCo) and UIO-66(Zr). The 1@MOF-5(NiCo) had the best HER and ORR activity compared with 1@MIL-88(Fe) and 1@MOF-5(NiCo). These hybrids also exhibited tunable selectivity for ORR with four-electron process, which can be attributed to the synergistic effect of porphyrin molecules and MOFs. This work provides a possibility for molecular catalysts to improve activity of HER and tune selectivity of ORR.

N6-methyladenosine (m6A) is the most abundant modification in eukaryotic cells, and it regulates RNA transcription, processing, splicing, degradation, and translation. Long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs), ...as transcriptional products with no or limited protein coding ability more than 200 nt in length, play an important role in epigenetic modification, mRNA transcription, splicing, stability, translation, and other biological functions. Extensive studies have shown that both m6A modification and lncRNAs are involved in the pathogenesis of various diseases, such as kinds of cancers, heart failure, Alzheimer’s disease, periodontitis, human abdominal aortic aneurysm, and obesity. To date, m6A modification has been identified as an important biological function in enrichment and regulation of lncRNAs. In this review, we summarize the role of m6A modification in the regulation and function of tumor-related lncRNAs. Moreover, we discuss the potential applications and possible future directions in the field.

Temozolomide (TMZ) resistance is a major cause of recurrence and poor prognosis in glioblastoma (GBM). Recently, increasing evidences suggested that long noncoding RNAs (LncRNAs) modulate GBM ...biological processes, especially in resistance to chemotherapy, but their role in TMZ chemoresistance has not been fully illuminated. Here, we found that LncRNA SOX2OT was increased in TMZ-resistant cells and recurrent GBM patient samples, and abnormal expression was correlated with high risk of relapse and poor prognosis. Knockdown of SOX2OT suppressed cell proliferation, facilitated cell apoptosis, and enhanced TMZ sensitivity. In addition, we identified that SOX2OT regulated TMZ sensitivity by increasing SOX2 expression and further activating the Wnt5a/β-catenin signaling pathway in vitro and in vivo. Mechanistically, further investigation revealed that SOX2OT recruited ALKBH5, which binds with SOX2, demethylating the SOX2 transcript, leading to enhanced SOX2 expression. Together, these results demonstrated that LncRNA SOX2OT inhibited cell apoptosis, promoted cell proliferation, and TMZ resistance by upregulating SOX2 expression, which activated the Wnt5a/β-catenin signaling pathway. Our findings indicate that LncRNA SOX2OT may serve as a novel biomarker for GBM prognosis and act as a therapeutic target for TMZ treatment.
Delivery and toxicity are critical issues facing nanomedicine research. Currently, there is limited understanding and connection between the physicochemical properties of a nanomaterial and its ...interactions with a physiological system. As a result, it remains unclear how to optimally synthesize and chemically modify nanomaterials for in vivo applications. It has been suggested that the physicochemical properties of a nanomaterial after synthesis, known as its “synthetic identity”, are not what a cell encounters in vivo. Adsorption of blood components and interactions with phagocytes can modify the size, aggregation state, and interfacial composition of a nanomaterial, giving it a distinct “biological identity”. Here, we investigate the role of size and surface chemistry in mediating serum protein adsorption to gold nanoparticles and their subsequent uptake by macrophages. Using label-free liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry, we find that over 70 different serum proteins are heterogeneously adsorbed to the surface of gold nanoparticles. The relative density of each of these adsorbed proteins depends on nanoparticle size and poly(ethylene glycol) grafting density. Variations in serum protein adsorption correlate with differences in the mechanism and efficiency of nanoparticle uptake by a macrophage cell line. Macrophages contribute to the poor efficiency of nanomaterial delivery into diseased tissues, redistribution of nanomaterials within the body, and potential toxicity. This study establishes principles for the rational design of clinically useful nanomaterials.
Using quantitative models to predict the biological interactions of nanoparticles will accelerate the translation of nanotechnology. Here, we characterized the serum protein corona ‘fingerprint’ ...formed around a library of 105 surface-modified gold nanoparticles. Applying a bioinformatics-inspired approach, we developed a multivariate model that uses the protein corona fingerprint to predict cell association 50% more accurately than a model that uses parameters describing nanoparticle size, aggregation state, and surface charge. Our model implicates a set of hyaluronan-binding proteins as mediators of nanoparticle–cell interactions. This study establishes a framework for developing a comprehensive database of protein corona fingerprints and biological responses for multiple nanoparticle types. Such a database can be used to develop quantitative relationships that predict the biological responses to nanoparticles and will aid in uncovering the fundamental mechanisms of nano–bio interactions.

As one of the promising MAX phase materials for high-temperature applications, Cr2AlC is considered as a potential substitution bond coat material in thermal barrier coating systems. In this paper, ...the microstructure evolution and elemental diffusion behavior near the interface of the diffusion couple composed of Cr2AlC and single crystal superalloy DD5 were investigated at 1100 °C, 1150 °C, and 1200 °C. Elemental interdiffusion between Cr2AlC and DD5 occurs significantly, resulting in the formation of a thick layer of Kirkendall holes after 20 h heat treatment at 1100 °C and higher temperatures. The outward diffusion of Ni into Cr2AlC and the inward diffusion of Al into DD5 alloy causes the formation of β-NiAl matrix embedded with dispersed Cr7C3 phase. Simultaneously, the precipitation of σ-TCP phase and degradation of the γ/γ′ matrix occurs in the alloy. Additionally, TaC, M2C (where M = Ta, W, Cr), and M23C6 (M = Cr, Re, W) compounds are formed near the interface along with the dissolution of σ-TCP phases. It is further found that Al in Cr2AlC exhibits the highest average effective diffusion coefficient among the four dominant diffusing elements. It also displays the lowest diffusion activation energy which is due to its relatively weak CrAl and AlAl bonds.

Adiponectin is an important adipocyte-derived plasma protein that has beneficial effects on cardio- and cerebrovascular diseases. A low level of plasma Adiponectin is associated with increased ...mortality post ischemic stroke; however, little is known about the causal role of Adiponectin as well as its molecular mechanisms in neonatal hypoxia ischemia (HI). In the present study, ten-day-old rat pups were subjected to right common carotid artery ligation followed by 2.5 h hypoxia. Recombinant human Adiponectin (rh-Adiponectin) was administered intranasally 1 h post HI. Adiponectin Receptor 1 (AdipoR1) siRNA, APPL1 siRNA, LKB1 siRNA were administered through intracerebroventricular injection 48 h before HI. Brain infarct area measurement, neurological function test, western blot, Fluoro Jade C (FJC), TUNEL, and immunofluorescence staining were conducted. Results revealed that endogenous Adiponectin, AdipoR1 and APPL1 were increased in a time dependent manner after HI. Administration of rh-Adiponectin reduced brain infarct area, neuronal apoptosis, brain atrophy and improved neurological function at 24 h and 4 weeks post HI. Furthermore, rh-Adiponectin treatment increased Adiponectin, AdipoR1, APPL1, cytosolic LKB1, p-AMPK expression levels and thereby attenuated apoptosis as shown by the decreased expression of the pro-apoptotic marker, Cleaved Caspase 3 (C-Cas3), as well as the number of FJC and TUNEL positively stained neurons. AdipoR1, APPL1 and LKB1 siRNAs abolished the anti-apoptotic effects of rh-Adiponectin at 24 h after HI. Collectively, the data provided evidence that intranasal administration of rh-Adiponectin attenuated neuronal apoptosis at least in part via activating AdipoR1/APPL1/LKB1/AMPK signaling pathway. Adiponectin could represent a therapeutic target for treatment of neonatal hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy.
•Administration of exogenous recombinant human Adiponectin (rh-Adiponectin), as a AdipoR1 ligand, significantly attenuated apoptosis which in turn reduced infarct volume and improved neurological deficits.•Apoptosis plays a major role in early brain injury after HI as seen from the increase in the apoptotic marker, Cleaved Caspase 3, as well as from the increase in Fluoro-Jade C and TUNNEL positively stained neuronal cells.•Rh-Adiponectin showed to exert its neuroprotective effects via AdipoR1/APPL1/LKB1/AMPK pathway after HI in neonatal rat pups.•Inhibition of neuronal apoptosis immediately after injury may be the key to treat HI.
