The purpose of this study is to use a roundtable technique to improve the writing capacity of S1 English education studies students at FKIP UNIB. This study's architecture is based on classroom ...action studies. It was completed in three cycles. The instruments are a checklist, an observation, and a measure. The results of the checklist revealed that there was an improvement in student activity from cycles 1, 2, and 3. Meanwhile, the observation outcome represented an increase in students' awareness of the roundtable strategy's application from the first to third period. Finally, the test result indicated an improvement in score from cycle 1 to cycle 3 name from 75, 79, and 83.5. The results of the three instruments indicate that the roundtable approach will increase the writing capacity of English education research programme students. This strategy can be used in teaching writing for students.Keywords : boosting English, writing ability, roundtable strategy
The purpose of this study is to use an inquiry-based learning paradigm to improve the writing skills of FKIP UNIB undergraduate English education students This is a three-cycle classroom action ...research study. The participants in this study were 39 third-semester students. There are 3 instruments used in collecting data, namely observation, checklist, and test. The results of the observations showed an increase in understanding of the application of inquiry-based learning models from cycles one, two, and three. While from the checklist, it was seen that there was an increase in student activity from the first cycle to the third or last cycle. from the third instrument used to see the progress of students' writing skills, it can be seen that in cycle one the average student scores are 75 and 79 at the end of cycle 2 and 83.5 in the last cycle. From the three instruments above, it can be concluded that this inquiry-based learning model can increase the writing skills of English Education Study Program third-semester students, FKIP UNIB.
This study aims to evaluate the implementation of the teacher professional education program for teachers in positions that are carried out online at the Faculty of Education and Teacher Training at ...the University of Bengkulu. This research was conducted from September to November 2022 as a qualitative descriptive study. The instruments used were documentation, interviews, and questionnaires. Interviews were conducted with lecturers, PPG students, tutors, and school/madrasah policyholders. The questionnaire is used to see student or participant responses to the implementation of the online learning process. The CIPP evaluation model used focuses on evaluating the context, inputs, processes, and products. Sources of data were obtained from program managers, supervisors, PPG students, school/madrasah principals, tutors, and monitoring and evaluation (monev) results. The data analysis technique used is descriptive data analysis by interpreting the data from each evaluated aspect, then compared with predetermined criteria. Viewed from the context aspect, the FKIP UNIB PPG study program is under the Standard Operating Procedures as the organizer of PPG activities. From an input perspective, the PPG study program is supported by adequate human resources. All lecturers involved, educational staff, tutors, and students are by the program implementation guidelines. In the process aspect, the PPG FKIP UNIB study program has carried out PPG program activities following the SOP. This is evidenced by all the stages carried out in a structured and well-organized manner so that starting from the preparation and implementation processes go well. All well-patterned processes have an impact on the products produced. Referring to the high passing percentage of PPG participants and achieving a passing percentage proves the success of the PPG FKIP UNIB study program in implementing the PPG program. Other successes of the PPG study program have been accredited Superior.
This study aims to investigate whether or not the learning strategy using YouTube videos from the Shaw English Online Channel is effective on students' speaking skills in asking questions and giving ...opinions. This research was conducted at Islamic Senior High School 2 North Bengkulu. The method applied in this research was quantitative with a quasi-experimental design. The total sample used for this study was 70 students consisting of 35 students from the eleventh grade of natural sciences class 1 (experimental class) and 35 students from the class eleventh grade of natural sciences class 2 (control class). The instrument in this study was an online oral test and the data was the students' pre-test and post-test scores which were calculated and analyzed using SPSS 26 software. Then, the results obtained were used to determine whether there was an effect given by variable x to variable v. In conclusion, the use of learning strategies using media from the Shaw English Online Channel is effective to improve students' speaking skills in asking questions and giving opinions to eleventh-grade sciences students at Islamic Senior High School 2 North Bengkulu, the academic year 2021.
Deixis has an important role to build the communication process. This research aimed to find out the distribution of scenes, types of deixis are often found and distribution of deixis in all sections ...of Beauty and The Beast movie script by using Cruse theory (2000). This research used a descriptive qualitative method. The object of this study is Beauty and The Beast movie script by Stephen Chbosky and Evan Spiliotopoulos. Documentation and checklist were used in data collection. The results showed that the distribution of scenes in the Beauty and The Beast movie script are found in the orientation section, complication section, rising action section, turning point section and resolution section. Coda is not found in this movie. Then, person deixis, social deixis and spatial deixis are the most dominant deixis in Beauty and The Beast movie script. Finally, there were five types of deixis in the orientation section, complication section, rising action section, turning point section but there are only two types of deixis that are found in the resolution section in the Beauty and the Beast movie script. It is suggested that English teachers and students should be familiar with the types of deixis in the main section of the movie before using it for the teaching and learning process.

This research aims to find out the types of idiomatic expressions and to identify the patterns of idiomatic expressions in the Joker movie. This research employed a descriptive qualitative method. In ...collecting the data, this research used a classification form, documentation, and monolingual dictionaries. The result showed that there were 4 types of idiomatic expressions found in the Joker movie; proverbs, clichés, fixed statements, and slang. The other types of idiomatic expressions such as simile, binomial, and other language were absent from the Joker movie. Moreover, the researcher identified the patterns of the idiomatic expressions in the Joker movie were; noun phrases, transitive verb phrases, verbal phrases, prepositional phrases, pair of words, and sentence pattern. The other patterns of idiomatic expressions such as be + prepositional phrases and alliterative comparison were not consisted in the Joker movie.
The main purpose of this study was to review intelligence types that students employ in relation to their foreign language learning. This correlational study aimed to investigate the correlation of ...multiple intelligences and students’ academic performance. The population of this study was 205 student’s 11th grade of senior high school of 03 SELUMA. The data was collected by using total sampling learning English class eleventh senior high school. Data analyzed this study of to investigate the correlation between the multiple intelligences and the academic achievement score of senior high school students. Data was analyzed by descriptive statistics the results from Pearson Correlation of intelligence and academic achievement variables. Based on the data analysis it was found between two variables was 0.348, results showed that low correlation existed between multiple intelligences and academic performance. As a consequence, the null hypothesis (H0) was rejected and the alternative hypothesis (H1) was accepted. This indicates that multiple intelligences did not significantly affect academic performance. It seems that multiple intelligences were not the only factor that affects the achievement. Intrapersonal the leading intelligence type and the musical intelligence was the least common intelligence type employed by the students who participated in this research.
This research aim at finding out language learning strategies used by male and female students in the fourth semester of the English education study program at Universitas Bengkulu. This research is ...descriptive quantitative. The population of this research is 117 students of the fourth-semester of English education study program at Universitas Bengkulu in the 2020/2021 academic year, and 52 students are taken as the sample by using purposive sampling. The data were collected by using a questionnaire. The questionnaire consisted of 31 items which represent 6 categories of learning strategies adapted from Strategy Inventory for Language Learning (SILL) version 7.0 proposed by Oxford. The collected data is analyzed by using Microsoft Excel 2007 and SPSS version 23. The results showed both males and females used all strategies category. Those are memory, cognitive, compensation, metacognitive, affective and social strategy. The dominant strategy used by male students are cognitive and compensation strategy (M=3.67), while the dominant strategy used by female students is metacognitive (M=3.74). Based on the result, there is no significant difference between males and females in using language learning strategies. Finally, the researchers suggest for lecturers who can use this research as information to design lesson plans in their speaking class. It is also suggested for students to use learning strategy in learning speaking more properly, the students have to find appropriate strategies that should be applied in learning speaking and for next researchers who will conduct the same topic of this research should make the next research more detailed information by involving other instruments.
Abstract This Study was a mix method research which used the combination of both qualitative and quantitative data. This study was aimed to find out the types and the dominant communication ...strategies used by the fourth semester students of English Study Program in University of Bengkulu. The instruments used in this research were observation checklist adapted from Dornyei (1995) and video recorder to collect data. The data were analyzed by Dornyei’s Theory of Communication Strategies. The population of this study was fourth semester students of class A of English Study Program. The samples of this study were selected with purposive sampling technique. The findings of this research were: (1) the students used all types of communication strategies, namely: a) message replacement, b) topic avoidance, c) message abandonment, d) circumlocution, e) approximation, f) word coinage, g) non-verbal signal, h) literal translation, i) foreignizing, j) code switching, k) time gaining strategy, and l) appeal for help, and 2) the dominant type of communication strategies used by the students is time gaining strategy with 47.87%. The students mostly used time gaining strategy because they already have good proficiency but they still needed times or delays to produce the utterances.
The purpose of this study was to analyze whether schools had implemented the 2013 curriculum system such as the Bengkulu City 11 Junior High School in the learning process in classroom activities ...using multiple intelligence theories. This research was designed as a descriptive qualitative method. The population and sample of this study were English language teachers at SMPN 11 Bengkulu Cityin seventh grade. Data was collected using observations checklist and video recorder that were used to assist researchers in analyzing forms of observation checklist. The results of the study showed several continuations implemented from the three teachers, namely 100% linguistics, 66.7% visual and 66.7% body intelligence. Linguistic intelligence was the dominant one. from three teachers who taught in seventh grade with the same material namely descriptive text, the results showed, teacher A asked for three linguistic, visual and body intelligences, teacher B applied one linguistic intelligence and teacher C used three linguistic, visual, and body intelligences. The results show from the three teachers implemented linguistic intelligence more often in teaching English. Because in English lesson oriented to linguistic.
