Accurate estimation of tree position, diameter at breast height (DBH), and tree height measurements is an important task in forest inventory. Mobile Laser Scanning (MLS) is an important solution. ...However, the poor global navigation satellite system (GNSS) coverage under the canopy makes the MLS system unable to provide globally-consistent point cloud data, and thus, it cannot accurately estimate the forest attributes. SLAM could be an alternative for solutions dependent on GNSS. In this paper, a mobile phone with RGB-D SLAM was used to estimate tree position, DBH, and tree height in real-time. The main aims of this paper include (1) designing an algorithm to estimate the DBH and position of the tree using the point cloud from the time-of-flight (TOF) camera and camera pose; (2) designing an algorithm to measure tree height using the perspective projection principle of a camera and the camera pose; and (3) showing the measurement results to the observer using augmented reality (AR) technology to allow the observer to intuitively judge the accuracy of the measurement results and re-estimate the measurement results if needed. The device was tested in nine square plots with 12 m sides. The tree position estimations were unbiased and had a root mean square error (RMSE) of 0.12 m in both the x-axis and y-axis directions; the DBH estimations had a 0.33 cm (1.78%) BIAS and a 1.26 cm (6.39%) root mean square error (RMSE); the tree height estimations had a 0.15 m (1.08%) BIAS and a 1.11 m (7.43%) RMSE. The results showed that the mobile phone with RGB-D SLAM is a potential tool for obtaining accurate measurements of tree position, DBH, and tree height.
Currently, hydrogels are considered as ideal biomaterials due to their unique structure and characteristics that facilitates considerable hydrophilicity, swelling, drug loading and release. In this ...study, we report pH-responsive GG-MAA-AMPS hydrogel delivery system prepared via free radical polymerization technique. Hydrogels were loaded with Metformin HCl as a model drug. Hydrogels were characterized through Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). FTIR confirmed the successful crosslinking of reactants, hydrogel network formation and drug loading. TGA and DSC proved the higher thermal stability of reactants after crosslinking and drug loading. XRD analysis showed decrease in crystallinity of drug after loading into the hydrogels. SEM revealed smooth and glassy appearance of both loaded and unloaded hydrogels. Gel content was increased with increase in concentration of reactants. Drug entrapment was decreased by increasing concentration of GG and AMPS while MAA acted inversely. Hydrogels displayed pH-dependent swelling and drug release behavior being high at pH 6.8 and 7.4 while low at acidic pH (1.2). Oral tolerability in rabbits showed that hydrogels were safe without causing any hematological or histopathological changes in healthy rabbits. Based on the obtained results, GG-MAA-AMPS can be considered as potential carrier for metformin HCl as well as other hydrophilic drugs.
Drought has a deleterious impact on the growth, physiology, and yield of various plants, including soybean. Seaweed extracts are rich in various bioactive compounds, including antioxidants, and can ...be used as biostimulants for improving yield and alleviating the adverse effect of drought stress. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of soybean growth and yield with different concentrations (0.0%, 5.0%, and 10.0% v/v) of water extracts of the red seaweed
var.
under well-watered (80% of field capacity (FC) and drought (40% of FC)) conditions. Drought stress decreased soybean grain yield by 45.58% compared to well-watered circumstances but increased the water saturation deficit by 37.87%. It also decreased leaf water, chlorophyll content, plant height, and the fresh weight of the leaf, stem, and petiole. Drought stress decreased soybean grain yield by 45.58% compared to well-watered circumstances but increased the water saturation deficit by 37.87%. It also decreased leaf water, chlorophyll content, plant height, and the fresh weight of the leaf, stem, and petiole. Under both drought and well-watered situations, foliar application of seaweed extracts dramatically improved soybean growth and production. Under drought and well-watered situations, 10.0% seaweed extract increased grain yield by 54.87% and 23.97%, respectively in comparison to untreated plants. The results of this study suggest that red seaweed extracts from

may be used as a biostimulant to improve soybean yield and drought tolerance in the presence of insufficient water. However, the actual mechanisms behind these improvements need to be further investigated in field conditions.
Encephalitis caused by Free-living amoebae (FLA) has a mortality rate of around 95- 98%, a fraction that has not changed in the past decades. Pathogenic FLA include Acanthamoeba, Balamuthia ...mandrillaris, and Naegleria fowleri that are known to target the brain after an extra cerebral infection in the case of Acanthamoeba and Balamuthia mandrillaris, or directly the brain, as in the case of the Naegleria fowleri. The Acanthamoeba spp. and Balamuthia mandrillaris cause granulomatous amoebic encephalitis (GAE) while Naegleria fowleri, the so termed "brain eating amoeba" causes primary amoebic meningoencephalitis (PAM). The attempts to obtain a speedy diagnosis and an aggressive treatment protocol are the areas where advances can make a difference and reduce the mortality rates. At first, we highlight the reasons behind the diagnostic delays and treatment failures and provide proposals to establish a quick diagnosis in both PAM and GAE. Secondly, we emphasize the use of a transcribrial device, and a prompt, but vigilant surgical reduction of the intracranial pressure in these patients which could be life-saving. We also debate that an exudate obtained from the olfactory region by irrigation via a modified transcribrial device or by conventional methods, instead of a cerebrospinal fluid sample, could serve as a source of obtaining amoeba in PAM for a real-time polymerase chain reaction-based definitive diagnosis of PAM. Also, introduced is the rationale that has the potential to deliver the drugs to the brain in patients with PAM and the GAE localized to the frontal lobe of the brain, by bypassing the blood brain barrier. We put forward these proposals for debate and deliberation to our fellow colleagues in order to spot the potential of their application to reduce the mortality rates caused by the rare but fatal encephalitis caused by these FLA.

The X-ray diffraction pattern confirms the precise single-phase spinel structure for every composition as justified by the Rietveld refinement analysis. The Field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM) technique reveals surface morphology of the synthesized sample at nanoscale. The FESEM image shows the nanosized (99–46 nm) ferrites with narrow size distribution occupying spherical shapes. To illustrate magnetic characteristics, vibrating sample magnetometer and the law of approach to saturation has been used to analyse (M–H) data in saturation region in order to extract the hysteresis parameters. The intrinsic saturation magnetization (

Glipizide, a poor water-soluble drug belongs to BCS class II. The proposed work aimed to enhance the solubility of glipizide by preparing solid dispersions, using polyvinyl pyrrolidone (PVP) and ...polyethylene glycol (PEG). Solvent evaporation method was used for the preparation of glipizide solid dispersions. Solid dispersions were prepared in four different drug-to-polymer ratios i.e. 1:1, 1:2, 1:3 and 1:4. Mainly effect of three polymers (PVP K30, PVP K90 and PEG 6000) was evaluated on the solubility and dissolution of glipizide. The in-vitro dissolution of all prepared formulations was performed under pH 6.8 at 37°C using USP type II apparatus. In-vitro dissolution results revealed that the formulations having high concentrations of the polymer showed enhanced solubility. Enhancements in the solubility and rate of dissolution of the drug were noted in solid dispersion formulations compared to the physical blends and pure drug. Solid dispersions containing polyvinyl pyrrolidone exhibited a more favorable pattern of drug release compared to the corresponding solid dispersions with PEG. An increase in the maximum solubility of the drug within the solid dispersion systems was observed in all instances. Two solid dispersion formulations were optimized and formulated into immediate-release tablets, which passed all the pharmacopoeial and non-pharmacopoeial tests. Fourier transformed Infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy X-ray diffraction (XRD) and Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) were used to indicate drug: polymer interactions in solid state. Analysis of the solid dispersion samples through characterization tests indicated the compatibility between the drug and the polymer.
To determine the trends in hospitalizations for heart failure (HF), acute myocardial infarction (AMI), and stroke in the United States (US).
A retrospective analysis of the National Inpatient Sample ...weighted data between January 1, 2004 and December 31, 2018 which included hospitalized adults ≥18 years with a primary discharge diagnosis of HF, AMI, or stroke using International Classification of Diseases-9/10 administrative codes. Main outcomes were hospitalization for HF, AMI, and stroke per 1000 United States adults, length of stay, and in-hospital mortality. There were 33.4 million hospitalizations for HF, AMI, and stroke, with most being for HF (48%). After the initial decline in HF hospitalizations (5.3 hospitalizations/1000 US adults in 2004 to 4 hospitalizations/1000 US adults in 2013, P < .001), there was a progressive increase in HF hospitalizations between 2013 and 2018 (4.0 hospitalizations/1000 US adults in 2013 to 4.9 hospitalizations/1000 US adults in 2018; P < .001). Hospitalization for AMI decreased (3.1 hospitalizations/1000 US adults in 2004 to 2.5 hospitalizations/1000 US adults in 2010, P < .001) and remained stable between 2010 and 2018. There was no significant change for hospitalization for stroke between 2004 and 2011 (2.3 hospitalizations/1000 US adults in 2004 vs 2.3 hospitalizations per 1000 US adults in 2011, P = .614); however, there was a small but significant increase in hospitalization for stroke after 2011 that reached 2.5 hospitalizations/1000 US adults in 2018. Adjusted length of stay and in-hospital mortality decreased for HF, AMI, and stroke hospitalizations.
In contrast to the trend of AMI and stroke hospitalizations, a progressive increase in hospitalizations for HF has occurred since 2013. From 2004 to 2018, in-hospital mortality has decreased for HF, AMI, and stroke hospitalizations.
Pulmonary hypertension (PH) is common in patients with left heart disease and is present in varying degrees in patients with severe mitral valve disease. There is paucity of data regarding outcomes ...following transcatheter mitral valve repair (TMVr) in patients with PH. For this study, we analyzed NIS data from 2014 to 2018 using the ICD-9-CM and 10-CM codes. Baseline characteristics were compared using a Pearson chi-squared test for categorical variables and independent samples t-test for continuous variables. To account for selection bias, a 1:1 propensity match cohort was derived using logistic regression. Trend analysis was- done using linear regression. Of 21,505 encounters, 6780 encounters had PH. 6610 PH encounters were matched with 6610 encounters without PH. In-hospital mortality (3.3% versus 1.9%, p <0.01) was higher in PH population. Complications such as blood transfusion (3.6% versus 1.7%, p <0.01), GI bleed (1.4% versus 1%, p = 0.04), vascular complications (5.3% versus 3.3%, p <0.01), vasopressors use (2.9% versus 1.7%, p <0.01) and pacemaker placement (1.3% versus 0.8%, p = 0.01) remained significantly higher for encounters with PH. Multiple Logistic regression showed PH was associated with higher mortality (adjusted odds ratio AOR, 1.68 95% confidence interval CI, 1.39-2.05, p <0.01). The mean length of stay (6.2 versus 5.3 days, p <0.01) and cost per hospitalization ($53,780 versus $50,801, p <0.01) remained significantly higher in the PH group when compared to group without PH. In conclusion, TMVr in PH as compared to without PH is associated with higher mortality, post-procedure complication rates, length of stay, and cost of stay.
