Expressing Veracity Reserve in the Secret Service Records of the Polish People’s Republic and the People’s Republic of Bulgaria (on the Example of the CHS Bolek and CHS Sabina Files) The analysis of ...the language of the security service employees in the Polish People’s Republic and the People’s Republic of Bulgaria, made on the basis of the CHS “Bolek” and the CHS “Sabina” files, showed that there is a certain feature that appears extremely often in the examined files, even though its occurrence in administrative and legal texts should be pretty sporadic. It is a very high frequency of using forms that express the veracity reserve. This shows how much the authors of the notes wanted to emphasise their own reserve to the truthfulness of the content provided by the confidential human sources (CHS). Tą cechą jest duża częstotliwość występowania form wyrażających rezerwę prawdziwościową. Pokazuje to, jak bardzo autorzy notatek chcieli podkreślić swoją rezerwę co do prawdziwości treści przekazywanych przez poufne źródła osobowe.
Following the results of the presidential election in Belarus in August 2020, mass protests broke out in the country. These events completely changed the life of the entire country for several ...months, mainly that of large-city inhabitants. One of the characteristics visible during the largest wave of protests was linguistic phenomena. These include an increase of the prestige of the Belarusian language in cities, a positive attitude to regionalisms and so-called trasianka, as well the introduction of new toponyms by protesters. These are the issues to which this article is devoted.

Forms expressing imperceptive modality, whose semantic structure contains renarration and reservation about the truth of the utterance, are found both in Polish and in Bulgarian. In both languages, ...their lexical exponents include, for example, Pol. podobno, rzekomo, jakoby, Bul. вероятно, може би, сигурно ‘apparently’, ‘allegedly’, ‘supposedly’. Apart from these lexical markers, Bulgarian has a separate morphological form: the inferential mood (несвидетелско наклонение, преизказно наклонение). Considering Polish, in turn, we should note the quasi-morphological construction mieć ‘to have’ + infinitive, which is also used to express imperceptive modality. This article presents an analysis of the use of these forms in Polish and Bulgarian press texts and on Internet news portals. It also attempts to explain the high frequency of their use in the opinion-making media.
The modern Bulgarian and Polish languages display a tendency to create polyprefixal verbs that are characteristic carriers of expression in the spoken language. This tendency is especially apparent ...in Bulgarian. A question then arises: is the complexity of formative structure of such units reflected in their predicate-argument structure? In order to answer this question, it was necessary to conduct an analysis of predicate-argument structure of the polyprefixal verbs belonging to the class of the verba mentalis. The study has shown that all the analyzed polyprefixal verbs, despite their formal complexity, constitute a uniform class of two-argument predicates that create very similar sentence structures. Against the background of other verba mentalis, they are distinguished by very high frequency of occurrence of independent elements having a pleonastic value in relation to the verbum.
Przedmiotem artykułu jest analiza językowa dyskursów protestacyjnych, wywołanych przez sfałszowanie wyborów prezydenckich na Białorusi w sierpniu 2020 r. Protesty 2020 r. stały się przedmiotem ...niektórych publikacji naukowych, jednak przeważnie uwzględniają one społeczno-kulturowy aspekt tego zjawiska. Systemowego i teoretycznie uzasadnionego badania wymaga natomiast aspekt językowy. Autorzy artykułu skupili się na jednym z najważniejszych elementów tej agendy badawczej – społeczno-symbolicznym i pragmatyczno-komunikacyjnym wykorzystaniu języka białoruskiego w trakcie akcji protestu. Badanie jest oparte na wybranych koncepcjach socjolingwistycznych, a za materiał posłużyło 300 tekstów ulicznych (napisy plakatowe, slogany, hasła, inskrypcje miejskie) oraz teksty elektroniczne (zarchiwizowane posty na stronach internetowych portali społecznościowych i komunikatorów).
The article presents one of the main sources of Slavic synonymy in technical terms – the phenomenon of internationalization. On the basis of a comprehensive set of Polish, Russian and Bulgarian ...terms of the range of machinery (construction and operation) it was found that Polish terminology uses international units primarily as a component of analytic terms, while the Russian and Bulgarian usually borrow the entire terminological unit and less often use a parallel native term.
In protest discourses the problem of using aesthetic and artistic elements lies in the centre of attention. The authors draw empirical material from the Belarusian protest movement, especially the ...anti-government protests of 2020. In the current study the problem of the use of aesthetic elements in protest discourses is considered in two aspects: 1) in the aspect of artistic activism, i.e. the involvement of artists in resistance activities; 2) in terms of the use of aesthetic speech acts in various forms of protest activity, i.e. as a special rhetorical tool with emphatic and persuasive function, but also as a means of expression with the satisfying function. As a result of this dichotomy, the article is divided into two parts. The authors point out that even though public art is not developed in Belarus (e.g. in the field of visual arts), aesthetic creativity is a very characteristic feature of both street poster discourses and forms of protest in the Internet.

Formy wyrażające modalność imperceptywną w bułgarskich i polskich tekstach prasowych oraz na portalach informacyjnych Formy wyrażające modalność imperceptywną, czyli zawierające w swej strukturze semantycznej jednocześnie renarrację i rezerwę prawdziwościową, występują zarówno w języku polskim, jak i bułgarskim. W obydwu językach temu celowi służą wykładniki leksykalne typu pl. podobno, rzekomo, jakoby, bg. вероятно, може би, сигурно. Poza wykładnikami leksykalnymi język bułgarski posiada dodatkową kategorię morfologiczną wyrażającą jednocześnie renarrację i rezerwę prawdziwościową, czyli formy narratywne (tzw. tryb nieświadka, bg. несвидетелско наклонение, преизказно наклонение). W języku polskim możemy natomiast zauważyć zwiększającą się częstotliwość użycia quasimorfologicznej konstrukcji mieć + bezokolicznik. W artykule zaprezentowano analizę wykorzystania powyższych wykładników modalności imperceptywnej w polskich i bułgarskich tekstach prasowych oraz w internetowych portalach informacyjnych. Podjęto również próbę wyjaśnienia zwiększonej częstotliwości ich użycia w mediach opiniotwórczych.
This paper attempts to describe expert opinions from a comparative and genre-based perspective. It addresses the central question of whether expert opinions follow any specific rhetorical and ...organizational patterns and the extent to which these may have been imposed by the respective judicial institutions in Russia, Bulgaria and the USA. After reviewing the institutional contexts and constraints imposed on experts and their opinions, the analysis focuses on exploring the status of generic structure in three sets of documents: US common law opinions, Russian and Bulgarian civil law opinions. The concept of ‘generic model’ has been approached from the perspective of Genre Analysis using the model of ‘rhetorical moves’ (Swales 1990; Tardy & Swales 2014). The analyses have revealed that expert witnesses can be described in terms of individual text segments, each with distinct rhetorical or communicative purpose(s). While most identified text segments are shared by all the opinions, irrespective of the legal system, the major difference is that the generic structures of Russian and Bulgarian opinions are strictly regulated by law, which results in increased levels of detail and conventionality. In contrast, the discourse community of American experts has much more leeway in shaping the conventions of the genre, as long as the experts take account of the general standards contained in the Federal Rules of Evidence. American opinions reflect not only the expertise of their authors but also their individual style.
