Present paper is a study on architectural trails, routes, projects and possible perspectives on future ones in Bucharest. It is a first study from a series of many intended by the author, meant to ...list the existent cultural studies and interventions and suggest new path and links between tradition and innovation. The article proposes a discussion on Bucharest’s architectural routes and lectures, from a city-view understanding and an architectural-artistic perspective. Observations are noted in the sense of urban space perception, its visibility as a whole but also as landmarks, places, etc. Several referenced professional studies and maps are the base of the present paper, most of which in online space, available for architecture tourists and also for urban-local culture.
The present paper is the dedicated review of the Opening Conference of C6-C7 activities within VVITA Erasmus+ project (Intensive programmes for higher education learners: “Romanian applied study on ...rural heritage sustainable revitalization methodology approaching inter-,multi- and trans- disciplinarily of build culture aiming to promote social inclusion for disadvantage and remote communities”, Sfistofca and Tulcea, Romania, 18-27th May 2019; 18th May 2019, “Ion Mincu” University of Architecture and Urbanism (UAUIM), Council Hall, Bucharest, Romania), and specific entitled Intensive programmes for higher education learners: “Romanian applied study on rural heritage sustainable revitalization methodology approaching inter-, multi- and trans- disciplinarily of build culture aiming to promote social inclusion for disadvantage and remote communities.”
The article explores the future of urbanization in Romania and the links between urbanization and industrialization and their corresponding development policies. It offers an overview regarding the ...historical process and changes which occurred in the state and approach of planning, discussing the intense socialist urbanization through industrialization, but also today’s situation regarding the stagnating urban development and planning as well as the perspectives regarding the integrated planning approach in a wider EU context. The article concludes that even if today industrialization is no longer equivalent with urbanization, the (national) industrialization strategies must include the debate regarding integrated urban development.
Before 9/11 WTC was an international landmark. The definition of the two high-rise buildings identity, their tourist, social, visual and economic significance, disappeared with the destruction of ...their materiality. As a result, the contemplative visual and unwritten discourse of the Lower Manhattan disappeared together with the architectural, urban, technological essence and also with the philosophy of stability and equilibrium of a prosperous society. At the social-mental level this event triggers a crisis in personal and collective consciences (of the American Nation but also of the Nations), and a crisis of humanity. The architectural - urban and ideas competition organized to select the best urban-social-architectural concept proved to be a difficult task. Not only it had to “fill” a particular place on earth, but it also needed to configure a philosophy of place that would ‘heal” the wounds of the local and international communities, namely the lack of security and prosperity brought on by a no longer hidden technology of aggression bringing cities and communities under threats never experienced before at times of peace. In its first part the article discusses the competition, proposals and the finalized urban project. The particular challenges related to the selection of design in the case of WTC are doubled by a certain complexity related to the institutional arrangements common to most large urban development projects. It is also clear that there is interdependency between the project governance and the project results. These aspects are discussed in the second part of the article.

Present article aims to discuss project proposals on the thematic of new towers from the teaching point of view in architecture. The debate regarding high office buildings is released from its ...financial constrains mainly by the use of a theoretical process focused on conceptual approach regarding the urban integration of the design to better address the concerns of the relation between the new object and the city. Tutoring a complex architecture project involves lectures and interdisciplinary debates on the theme of constituted urban landscape and morphology, culture, identity, history, memory, place and people – all these being important for the project inception. Sustainable urban management and increased density could be very strong arguments in motivating the analysis of city tendencies, its evolution, nature and its structure. All these are only exercises which synthesize a wide range of knowledge from different domains, the lecture of the dedicated site, and the best answer to a specific brief considering a very complex context of future sustainable approach as the suitable attitude regarding the city and its built environment, as well as using the necessary skills and methods to stimulate creativity and research by design.
This paper presents several case studies of reused and retrofitted buildings from Karlsruhe, Darmstadt and Heidelberg and their architectural-cultural integration in the surroundings. Reasons to ...replace missing parts of heritage buildings were motivated by new rules regarding materials, neglect or war damage state, but also by new developments in the neighbourhoods. Conclusions underline the impact on the surroundings of the altered buildings as being rather good. Also, the new developments which raised the profile of the surroundings would not have been possible otherwise. Reuse of buildings was justified by extension of the activities, new activities or social development. Through this the impact has been also rather good. Risks evaluation are identifying the questionable threat of the heritage character dilution in the intervention when several interventions are coupled.
