Frente a nuevas dinámicas y nuevas miradas del contexto sociocultural, el presente ensayo busca realizar una breve reflexión sobre la relación entre identidades culturales y las visiones posmodernas ...de los territorios turísticos, con el objetivo de profundizar sobre la práctica social del turismo en articulación a sus actores, espacios, apropiaciones y proceso sociales mayores. Asimismo, se intenta poner en cuestión aquellas concepciones esencialistas en torno al concepto de identidades culturales y su relación con el territorio turístico. En tanto, dentro del campo de investigación en turismo se continuan replicando modelos donde el fenómeno turístico es catalogado como depredador y banalizador de la cultura local. De este modo, se aboga por dejar el puntapié inicial hacia un pensamiento complejo que contemple el vinculo entre la disciplina turística y la denominada geografía cultural.
Faced with new dynamics and new views of the socio‑cultural context of tourism, this essay seeks to carry out a brief reflection and analysis on the relationship between cultural identities and ...postmodern visions of tourist territories. The aim is to study the social practice of tourism in articulation with its actors, spaces, appropriations and larger social processes. In order to achieve the purpose of this essay, revision and critical analysis of pertinent bibliography on the subject was used, confronting different perspectives and views. Basic constructs built around the concept of cultural identities and their relationship with place and tourism are likewise questioned. Meanwhile, within the field of tourism research, models continue to be replicated where tourism is classified as a predator and banaliser of the local culture. Research along the axis of tourism and cultural geography is advocated to contemplate the new complex concptualisations within the triad of tourism, culture and territory.
A partir de la segunda mitad del Siglo XX, el rápido y estable crecimiento que experimento el turismo, atrajo el interés por el desarrollo de las primeras investigaciones y estudios en turismo ...orientadas a la indagación de cuestiones comprobables, medibles y verificables (visión económica y mercadológica). Esta mirada respecto al conocimiento turístico ha sido catalogada de reduccionista, en la medida que no que entiende al turismo como un fenómeno atravesado por distintas dimensiones sociales. Resulta así esencial repensar el fenómeno turístico como objeto de estudio, destacando la importancia de lo social en la generación y construcción del conocimiento. En este sentido, tomando como referencia el pensamiento y aporte del enfoque crítico (Teoría Crítica y Fenomenología), el presente artículo intenta analizar de manera reflexiva el desarrollo de la epistemología del turismo. A través de la revisión y análisis de bibliografía, el trabajo tiene por objetivo abordar los siguientes aspectos: (1) Definición del turismo y su objeto de estudio, (2) Evolución de las investigaciones en turismo; (3) el enfoque crítico en la investigación turística; y (4) la importancia de la comunicación, diálogo e intersubjetividad en la producción de conocimiento. Por tanto, la investigación turística requiere de una actitud crítica e interpretativa que derive en el desarrollo de nuevos modelos cognoscitivos y nuevas formas pensar y actuar en la realidad.
Tourism is linked to new dynamics of capital accumulation in a wide variety of destinations worldwide, boosting the attraction of real estate investments. In Latin America, the state promoted ...tourism, advocating for the commodification of urban land leading to the regeneration of different historical centers, and then to displacement and segregation of the local population. Heritage recognition policies were a necessary part of triggering this trend, articulated with other urban dynamics, such as gentrification. Visual dimension of built environment understood as an urban landscape is a key in tourist and residential practices, as well as in investment strategies. Following an instrumental multiple study case strategy based on primary and secondary sources, and by fieldwork including interviews and photographic record, this article analyzes touristification in Antigua Guatemala (Guatemala) and Cartagena de Indias (Colombia), drawing on the theoretical concept of urban extractivism, and its relation with heritagization and gentrification processes. Both cities were founded during the colonial period, went through a heritagization process and are now consolidated as international tourist destinations. As a conclusion, touristification is considered as an expression of urban extractivism based on the reification of the built environment, in turn rooted on heritage recognition policies, overlapped with gentrification.
