Objective To analyze the characteristics of perioperative mortality (POM) in oral maxillofacial head and neck cancer patients. Methods A retrospective study was adapted for head and neck cancer ...patients who were treated and had POM in the department of oral maxillofacial & head and neck oncology in Shanghai Ninth People′s Hospital from Jan 1999 to Dec 2019. Demographic information, disease characteristic and clinical records were collected. The factors of POM were classified into surgical complication, medical complication, mixed complication (surgical and medical) and personal complication. SPSS 17.0 software was used to analyze the cause composition for POM under different condition. Results 55 patients were included: 39 were male, and 16 were female. A total of 12 patients had a smoking history. Furthermore, 28 patients had general comorbidities. 20 underwent preoperative radiotherapy and 9 received preoperative chemotherapy. Squamous cell carcinoma was the most frequent pathological diagnosis in 37 patients

W-band frequency sources using InGaP/GaAs HBTs are compared. The first is a fundamental frequency oscillator that provides 93 mW output power at 73.5 GHz in a compact (0.404 mm/sup 2/) chip, while ...the other is a doubled 38 GHz VCO providing 75 /spl mu/W output power and improved phase noise in a 5 times larger (2.139 mm/sup 2/) chip. The trade-offs in both of these designs are discussed. It was also found that cooling the 38 GHz VCOs to 100 K and 200 K improved the phase noise performance.
The amplitude of the Compton-Getting (CG) anisotropy contains the power-law index of the cosmic-ray energy spectrum. Based on this relation and using the Tibet air shower array data, we measure the ...cosmic-ray spectral index to be -3.03 plus or minus 0.55 sub(stat) plus or minus <0.62 sub(syst) between 6 and 40 TeV, consistent with -2.7 from direct energy spectrum measurements. Potentially, this CG anisotropy analysis can be utilized to confirm the astrophysical origin of the "knee" against models for nonstandard hadronic interactions in the atmosphere.
We aimed to investigate the effect of a 12-week dry-land core training program on physical fitness and swimming performance in elite adolescent swimmers.
Thirty subjects were selected and assigned to ...the core training group (CTG, n=15) and the traditional weight training group (WTG, n=15) in Seoul, Korea, between Sep and Dec 2016. The field fitness test was performed to determine the isotonic maximum muscular strength (one repetition maximum of deadlift and cable pulldown), anaerobic power (Wingate test), core stability (sports-specific endurance plank), core muscular power (front abdominal power, side abdominal power), muscular endurance of limbs (push-up, endurance jump), and swim performance improvement (personal record). Differences between groups after the exercise intervention were analyzed using two-way analysis of variance with repeated measures.
There were no significant interactions in isotonic maximum strength, anaerobic power (mean power, fatigue index), core muscular power, muscular endurance of limbs (endurance jump), and swim record improvement (
>0.05). The anaerobic peak power (
<0.001), sports-specific endurance plank test (
<0.001), and push-up test (
<0.001) showed significant interaction effects.
The 12-week dry-land core training program resulted in statistically significant improvements in anaerobic power, core stability, upper extremity muscular endurance, and swimming performance.
The use of chloroquine treatment for Plasmodium falciparum malaria was abandoned in China in 1979 because of widespread drug resistance. Subsequent studies found decreases in the prevalence of ...chloroquine-resistant strains. To evaluate these decreases and assess the current status of chloroquine sensitivity in Hainan, China, we determined the prevalence of the P. falciparum chloroquine resistance transporter (PfCRT) 76T marker in the DNA of blood samples collected from 1978 to 2001. Results showed the presence of PfCRT 76T in 101 of 112 samples (90%) from 1978 to 1981, 30 of 43 samples (70%) from 1986, 22 of 34 samples (65%) from 1997 to 1998, and 37 of 68 samples (54%) from 2001. The prevalence of PfCRT 76T thus progressively decreased after chloroquine was discontinued as a treatment for P. falciparum malaria (chi(2) = 5.2, P < 0.022 1978-1981 versus 1986; chi(2) = 7.4, P < 0.006 1978-1981 versus 1997-1998; and chi(2) = 28.8, P < 0.0001 1978-1981 versus 2001). Reduced prevalence of the PfCRT 76T marker is consistent with greater rates of chloroquine sensitivity from in vitro drug assays of blood samples in 1997 and 2001. Monitoring for continued decreases will provide valuable information for future drug-use policies in China.
Fe/SnO(2) composites were prepared from oxalate precursors annealing at 500'C. The structures and morphologies of Fe/SnO(2) composites were characterized with scanning electron microscopy and x-ray ...diffraction. The Fe/SnO(2) composites showed faster response and recovery to H(2)S than the flowerlike clusters of SnO(2) nanorods. The response of the composite sensors decreased with increasing temperature and increased with the increment of the Fe content. The highest response of the Fe/SnO(2) composite sensors can be achieved to be 67.9 for 50 ppm H(2)S at 250'C. The results show that the addition of Fe enhances the sensitivity to H(2)S and shortens the response and recovery time of the sensors.
The Tibet air-shower array, being successively operated at an altitude of 4300 m above sea level since 1990, has detected the shadows of the sun and moon in the 10 TeV cosmic-ray flux. In particular, ...the shadow of the sun was observed in the direction significantly away from the apparent solar position, under the influence of the solar and interplanetary magnetic fields. A further analysis shows that the shadows by cosmic rays coming from the away and toward field sectors in the interplanetary space are shifted in opposite directions to one another according to the polarity of the fields. This is the first direct observation of the influence of the interplanetary magnetic field on the shadow's displacement. The results imply that observation of the cosmicray shadow by the sun can produce new information on the relation between a time variation of the largescale structure of the solar and interplanetary magnetic fields and the cycle of solar activity. To address severe grassland degradation, the

land‐cover data. During the study period, the net increase in grassland development was 5105·5 km

, with 80·4% of the newly developed grasslands attributed to desert‐to‐grassland conversion. The total
NPP
of grasslands in 2009 increased by 659·62 Gg

compared with that in 2001. The contributions of human activity and climate change to total
NPP
increase were 133 and −33% respectively. Land conversion and improved management measures directly increased grassland
NPP
. These factors are dominant positive driving forces, whereas warm and dry climates impose adverse effects on grassland restoration in the study site.
A new type of multilayer film composed of meso-tetra-(4-trimethylaminophenyl)porphyrin copper iodide (CuTAPPI) alternating CdSe nanoparticles has been achieved. The self-assembly process and ...photophysical properties are studied in detail.
Small intestine of cat was homogenized under denaturing condition (6.0 M guanidinium chloride) in the presence of protease inhibitors and molecules in the 500 to 10,000 Da mass range were obtained by ...sequential ultrafiltrations. This material was separated by gel chromatography (Sephadex G-25), where fractions eluted in the mass range of 500-1000 Da inhibited 86Rb uptake into kidney slices in vitro. Furthermore, the same fractions exhibited a natriuretic effect when given intravenously to anesthetized rats. The gel chromatography fractions were further purified by cation exchange chromatography (CM-Sephadex C-25). Fractions eluted with a NaCl solution of around 250 mM inhibited 86Rb uptake into renal cortical tissue in vitro and showed natriuretic activity when tested in vivo in rats. It is proposed that intestine contains a water soluble natriuretic factor with an apparent molecular mass of 500-1000 Da. This material evokes a natriuresis in vivo and inhibits 86Rb uptake in vitro.
