The trade-off between environmental degradation and economic growth is occurring at various global scales due to the use of non-renewable energy. Currently, there is a research gap regarding the material footprint in the relationship between economic development and climate change in emerging markets. This research used a Panel Vector Autoregression (PVAR) model to analyze the causal effects of foreign direct investment, economic development, and material footprint in emerging Southeast Asian economies using Generalized Method of Moments (GMM) regression. This analysis employs five variables, namely the Annual Growth Rate of Real GDP per Capita at Constant 2015 $ (GDP), Carbon Dioxide Emissions (CDE), Material Footprint (MF), Direct Economic Loss Attributed to Disasters (DEL), and Domestic Material Consumption (DMC). The study’s data collection spans from 2000 to 2021. The results of this study provide evidence for the existence of correlations between economic phenomena and climate change in Southeast Asian nations. Material footprints and energy consumption contribute to environmental deterioration. Economic expansion necessitates acknowledging the trade-off that arises from the increased CO2 emissions released into the environment. A 1% increase in economic growth leads to the release of more than 9% of CO2 emissions into the environment. Conversely, there is a significant relationship between the amount of environmental pollution and the material footprint. This indicates that the growing consumption of input materials and the inefficient use of these resources are contributing to environmental pollution in rising economies. Natural catastrophes account for more than 3% of the economy’s CO2 emissions. Given the ongoing efforts to lessen the impact of climate change, the study recommends that policy solutions concentrate on restructuring economic growth and improving energy efficiency in industrial operations.
AbstractDuring the past pandemic, digital business activities have developed enormously, and many businesses have undergone a significant transformation to participate in the digital revolution. ...However, for the digital transformation to take place successfully, Industry 4.0 comes from breakthroughs in many fields, including the digital wave of the manufacturing sector. Many countries have paid attention to and concretized priorities for developing a digital economy. Vietnam also faces challenges that the digital trend brings, including the risk of competition for small and medium enterprises, especially high-quality human resources in today’s businesses. This article analyzed the current situation and applied descriptive statistics to summarize and apply the structural equation model (SEM) from a set of data, a research sample in numbers, and visual charts that surveyed 850 enterprise managers. Human resource management is a multifaceted process that has wide-ranging effects. Presently, several variables are influencing the field of human resource management. These elements often undergo changes and can be categorized into fundamental influencing factors: The attributes of the external factors, including the economy, people, legislation, culture, rivals, science, and technology. The internal environment encompasses several variables: the working environment, labor recruitment and selection, training and development, remuneration, bonuses, and welfare. The article’s goal is to explore factors that influence human resource management. Based on the results, the article’s contributions had several policy recommendations for developing human resources at small and medium enterprises for Vietnam’s post-Covid-19 pandemic. The application of the research is to strengthen and build a cultural working environment and create conditions and opportunities for human resources to develop; business leaders must be exemplary in words and deeds. Human resource development strategies must be implemented in an environment of fairness, discipline, ethics, and respect for the law as standards; create a cultural environment, leading the development of human resources.
PurposeThis study investigates the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on financial stability in Vietnam, a developing country characterized by a bank-based financial ...system.Design/methodology/approachUsing a sample of daily data from January 23, 2020 to June 30, 2022, the VECM and NARDL models are employed to study Vietnam’s financial stability in face of the COVID-19 disaster. Following the literature on COVID-19, the authors measure the impact of the pandemic by the number of daily infected cases and the national lockdown. Given the reliance of the Vietnamese government on the banking system to regulate the economy, the authors evaluate financial stability from the interbank market and stock market perspectives.FindingsThe authors find that the pandemic imposes a destructive effect on financial stability during the early time of the pandemic; however, the analysis with an extended period indicates that this effect gradually fades in the long term. In addition, from the NARDL results, the authors reveal an asymmetric relationship between the financial market and the COVID-19 pandemic in both short term and long term.Research limitations/implicationsAn implication drawn from this study is that unprecedented health disasters should be resolved by unprecedented stringent countermeasures when conventional methods are ineffective. Although rigorous remedies may increase short-term liabilities, their implementation quickly ceases disease diffusion and helps an economy enter the recovery stage in a timelier manner.Originality/valueThe study is the first to examine the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on financial stability, via the interbank market lens, in a developing country that relies on the bank-based financial system.
The paper examines the impact of foreign direct investment and environmental pollution on economic growth in an emerging economy. We used annual data covering the period of 1986–2020 and the ...non-linear autoregressive distributed lag (NARDL) to analyze the positive and negative co-integrated variables, and our findings support the asymmetric relationship between foreign direct investment, environmental pollution and economic growth in both the short and long run, as well as a long-run relationship between environmental pollution and economic growth. A one-percent increase in environmental pollution leads to a positive change in economic performance by 0.662 percent. Adversely, a one-percent decrease in environmental pollution leads to a negative change in economic performance by 0.212 percent. Vietnam is an emerging market, and capital needs for economic activities are essential. However, the research results show that a disproportionate impact of foreign direct investment on economic growth is recorded in the long run, and a disproportionate impact of environmental pollution on the economy occurs in both the short and long term. Therefore, the government needs to have policies to attract foreign investment to develop a green and sustainable economy.
Vietnam's economy faces many difficulties and complicated developments. To create an environment with favorable conditions for sustainable development, it is necessary to have innovative business ...solutions that not only bring profits for businesses but also solve environmental and social problems. In addition, small and medium enterprises (SMEs) have made many positive contributions to economic restructuring, creating stable jobs for hundreds of thousands of employees and ensuring social security. Besides, SMEs in Vietnam have faced many difficulties and challenges during the COVID-19 pandemic. Thus, the papers' objectives explored critical factors affecting the sustainable development of SMEs in Vietnam. The authors applied two methods, such as qualitative and quantitative, with data obtained from 400 managers of small and medium enterprises and used structural equation modeling and SPSS 20.0, Amos software. The article's findings have the digital transformation factor's most substantial impact on sustainable development. The article's novelty is determined by five factors: market trends, state support policy, social responsibility, quality of human resources, and digital transformation. Finally, the authors recommended guidelines to help businesses be more cohesive in removing difficulties and solving issues related to credit relations to put capital into modern technology investment to ensure business effectiveness and sustainable development for SMEs. Credit activities are an essential commercial bank activity. Therefore, preventing and limiting credit risks is vital for their credit activities. The Covid-19 epidemic is still ongoing. In 2021, 30 ...banks listed bad debts of more than 113 trillion VND, a 26% increase relative to 2020. Vietnam has the dual goal of fighting the outbreak while continuing with socio-economic development. In this context, credit activities are still essential. Banks require the necessary and appropriate management solutions to adapt to the new situation to ensure safe and sustainable credit activities. This study analyzes some current problems and leading causes of the credit risk of commercial banks. The author has primary data from detailed questionnaires distributed directly to 300 credit risk managers based on a random process. This study examines the descriptive statistics, and compares, analyzes, and synthesizes the statistical reports of commercial banks. The study is novel in that it analyzes more than 60% of commercial banks affected by Covid-19 in terms of risks from subjectivity and risks due to objective causes. Therefore, the results suggest several policy recommendations for minimizing Vietnamese commercial banks' credit risks after the Covid-19 pandemic.

Their ...chemical structures were determined to be 7′′′‐oxolyciumamide N (1), vitexin 2′′‐O‐β‐D‐(6′′′‐feruloyl)‐glucopyranoside (2), 1,2‐dihydro‐6,8‐dimethoxy‐7‐hydroxy‐1‐(3,4‐dihydroxyphenyl)‐N1,N2‐bis‐2‐(−hydroxyphenyl)ethyl‐2,3‐napthalene dicarboamide (3), vitexin 6′′‐O‐β‐D‐glucopyranoside (4), vitexin 2′′‐O‐α‐L‐rhamnopyranoside (5), methyl 2‐hydroxybenzoate‐2‐O‐β‐D‐apiofuranosyl‐(1→2)‐O‐β‐D‐glucopyranoside (6), ficuside G (7), methyl 2‐O‐β‐D‐glucopyranosylbenzoate (8), methyl 2,5‐dihydroxybenzoate‐5‐O‐β‐D‐glucopyranoside (9), and 3,7‐dimethyloct‐1‐ene‐3,6,7‐triol 6‐O‐β‐D‐glucopyranoside (10) by spectroscopic data analysis including HR‐ESI‐MS, 1D‐, and 2D‐NMR spectra. Compounds 1–5 inhibited nitric oxide production in LPS‐stimulated RAW264.7 macrophages with the IC50 values of 27.62, 74.03, 38.54, 70.39, and 44.95 μM, respectively. From 2019 to now, the world economy, including Vietnam, has been seriously affected by the Covid-19 pandemic. The paper's main idea showed that the complicated and prolonged Covid-19 epidemic is ...causing many adverse effects on all economic and social aspects, including the banking industry. The implementation of social distancing to prevent and control the Covid-19 epidemic has partly influenced enterprises' production and business processes and reduced commercial banks' profitability. However, thanks to the promotion of digitization, the operation of credit institutions currently maintains stability, ensuring smooth and safe transactions and bringing profits. Data collection methods: the author collected data from 25 commercial banks listed on the stock exchange from 2009 to 2020 and 300 observations (balanced panel data) extracted from websites and the General Statistics Office of Vietnam. The subject and the goal of the research analyzed vital factors affecting the profitability of commercial banks and the impact Covid-19 epidemic on the profitability of commercial banks listed on the Vietnam stock market. Besides, the author used the method applied to the models analyzed quantitatively through regression to select the appropriate model, the generalized method of moments (SGMM) system. The research findings showed the business profitability of commercial banks in the context of the Covid-19 epidemic, and eight hypotheses were accepted with a 5% significance level. Finally, the research results gave management implications to enhance the profitability of commercial banks in Vietnam. Besides, the study value helps the Government and State Bank are not immune to adverse impacts, and several recommendations have been proposed to overcome these harmful effects.
To evaluate the efficacy of fermented milk containing Lactobacillus casei strain Shirota (LcS) on the incidence of constipation, diarrhea, acute respiratory infections (ARI), and nutritional status ...of young Vietnamese children.
A controlled field trial was conducted with 1003 children (3-5 years old) in Thanh Hoa province in Vietnam. The probiotic group (n = 510) consumed fermented milk 65 mL/day containing 10
CFU/mL of LcS for the 12-week intervention period, whereas the control group (n = 493) was not given any. The incidence of constipation, diarrhea, ARI, and anthropometry in children was determined at baseline, after 4, 8, and 12-week intervention, and after the 4-week follow-up period.
Probiotic drink decreased the incidence of constipation after the 12-week intervention period (12.0% vs. 32.0%, OR = 0.28 (95% CI: 0.21-0.40), p < 0.001), tended to decrease the incidence of diarrhea (4.9% vs. 7.9%, OR = 0.60 (95% CI: 0.35-1.01), p = 0.068), and prevented the occurrence of ARI (15.9% vs. 24.5%, OR = 0.58 (95% CI: 0.42-0.79), p < 0.001), when compared with the control group. In contrast, no probiotic effects were observed for the duration of diarrhea or ARI. Weight gain was higher in the probiotic group than in the control group after 4, 8, and 12-week intervention and after the 4-week follow-up period (p < 0.05).
Daily intake of fermented milk containing LcS strongly prevented the incidence of constipation and ARI in Vietnamese children. This study also revealed the potential effects of the use of a probiotic drink on diarrhea prevention as well as nutritional status improvement.
This study assesses how various aspects of loan service quality in Vietnamese commercial banks impact the satisfaction levels of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and their relationship with ...customer loyalty to these banks. Implementing both qualitative methods (such as group discussions, expert interviews, and customer surveys) and quantitative methods (including partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM)), the authors identified and analyzed five dimensions of loan service quality—tangibility, reliability, assurance, responsiveness, and empathy—that positively influence SME satisfaction within these banks. Additionally, this study explores the connection between SME satisfaction and loyalty, recognizing it as a crucial factor for improving operational efficiency and gaining a competitive advantage in facilitating banking transactions.
