It was registered under PROSPERO (CRD42021251527). We searched PubMed, EMBASE, MEDLINE, Cochrane, CINAHL, Scopus, CNKI, Wan-fang, VIP, and CBM from the inception of each database to May 2021 for RCT studies of lifestyle interventions on hepatic fat content and metabolism-related indicators. We used Review Manager 5.3 for meta-analysis and used text and detailed tabular summaries when heterogeneity existed.
Thirty-four RCT studies with 2652 participants were included. All participants were obesity, 8% of whom also had diabetes, and none was lean or normal weight. Through subgroup analysis, we found low carbohydrate diet, aerobic training and resistance training significantly improved the level of HFC, TG, HDL, HbA1c, and HOMA-IR. Moreover, low carbohydrate diet is more effective in improving HFC than low fat diet and resistance training is better than aerobic training in reduction in HFC and TG (SMD, -0.25, 95% CI, -0.45 to -0.06; SMD, 0.24, 95% CI, 0.03 to 0.44, respectively).
Overall, this is the first review that systematically synthesizes studies focused on the effects of various lifestyle on adults with MAFLD. The data generated in this systematic review were more applicable to obesity MAFLD rather than lean or normal weight MAFLD.

Separation of malignant tumor cells (MTCs) from large background cells in untreated malignant pleural and peritoneal effusions (MPPEs) is critical for improving the sensitivity and efficiency of ...cytological diagnosis. Herein, we proposed a cascaded elasto-inertial cell separation (CEICS) device integrating an interfacial elasto-inertial microfluidic channel with a symmetric contraction expansion array (CEA) channel for pretreatment-free, high-recovery-ratio, and high-purity separation of MTCs from clinical MPPEs. First, the effects of flow-rate ratio, cell concentration, and cell size on separation performances in two single-stage channels were investigated. Then, the performances of the integrated CEICS device were characterized using blood cells spiked with three different tumor cells (MCF-7, MDA-MB-231, and A549 cells) at a high total throughput of 240 μL min
−1
. An average recovery ratio of ∼95% and an average purity of ∼61% for the three tumor cells were achieved. Finally, we successfully applied the CEICS device for the pretreatment-free separation of MTCs from clinical MPPEs of different cancers. Our CEICS device may provide a preparation tool for improving the sensitivity and efficiency of cytological examination.
A cascaded elasto-inertial cell separation device for pretreatment-free, high-recovery-ratio, and high-purity separation of malignant tumor cells from clinical malignant pleural and peritoneal effusions.
Accurate and rapid diagnosis of malignant pleural and peritoneal effusions is critical due to potential association with advanced disease stages or progression. Traditional cytodiagnosis suffers from ...low efficiency and has difficulties in finding malignant tumor cells (MTCs) from a mass of exfoliated cells. Hence, a polymer microfluidic chip with a slanted spiral channel was employed for high-throughput and label-free enrichment of MTCs and MTC clusters from clinical malignant pleural and peritoneal effusions. The slanted spiral channel with trapezoidal cross-sections was fabricated by assembling two patterned polymer films of different thicknesses within one flow channel layer. After systematically exploring the effects of the particle size, effusion concentration, and flow rate on separation performance of the device, we realized the enrichment of MTCs from abundant blood cells in 2-fold diluted effusions. The results indicated that approximately 85% of the spiked tumor cells (A549 and MCF-7 cell lines) were recovered with high purities of over 37% at a high throughput of 2000 μL min
−1
. In clinical applications, we successfully enriched 24-2691 MTCs per mL from the diluted malignant pleural and peritoneal effusions collected from four types of cancer patients (
n
= 22). More importantly, the MTC clusters were further purified from single MTCs using a higher flow rate of 3000 L min
−1
. Finally, we performed the rapid drug sensitivity test by coupling the microfluidic enrichment with CCK-8 assay. Our approach may serve as valuable assistance to accelerate cancer diagnosis and guide the selection of treatment medications.

A numerical model of the dynamic triaxial test of graded crushed stone was established based on DEM (Discrete Element Method) to study its dynamic characteristics. The influence of test conditions on ...simulation results was analysed through numerical simulation. A method for determining the test conditions was proposed, and the reliability of the simulation was verified. We studied the accumulation rule and failure standard of permanent deformation. We then determined the critical failure stress level. The prediction model of permanent deformation cumulative failure was then established. When the calculation time step is greater than 1E-4 s per step, the stability of the dynamic triaxial numerical test of graded crushed stone is good. The plastic deformation of the simulated specimen tends to be stable under 10,000 dynamic loading cycles. When the specimen height and diameter are greater than 20 and 10 cm, respectively, the specimen size has little influence on the simulated axial strain. The recommended specimen size is 10 cm (PHI) x 20 cm (h). The action time curve results are consistent with indoor measurement results, which proves the simulation's reliability. The critical failure stress is approximately linearly correlated with the confining pressure, and the cumulative failure equation of plastic deformation is established.
Kaempferol has been proposed as a potential drug for cancer chemoprevention and treatment because it is a natural polyphenol contained in plant-based foods. Recent studies have demonstrated that ...kaempferol protects against cardiovascular disease and cancer. Based on this finding, we investigated the mechanisms by which kaempferol produces the anti-metastatic effect in human tongue squamous cell carcinoma SCC4 cells.
In this study, we provided molecular evidence associated with the anti-metastatic effect of kaempferol by demonstrating a substantial suppression of SCC4 cell migration and invasion. This effect was associated with reduced expressions of MMP-2 and TIMP-2 mRNA and protein levels. Analysis of the transcriptional regulation indicated that kaempferol inhibited MMP-2 transcription by suppressing c-Jun activity. Kaempferol also produced an inhibitory effect on the phosphorylation of ERK1/2.
These findings provide new insights into the molecular mechanisms involved in the anti-metastatic effect of kaempferol, and are valuable in the prevention of oral cancer metastasis.
Particle focusing and separation using viscoelastic microfluidic technology have attracted lots of attention in many applications. In this paper, a three-dimensional lattice Boltzmann method (LBM) ...coupled with the immersed boundary method (IBM) is employed to study the focusing and separation of particles in viscoelastic fluid. In this method, the viscoelastic fluid is simulated by the LBM with two sets of distribution functions and the fluid-particle interaction is calculated by the IBM. The performance of particle focusing under different microchannel aspect ratios (AR) is explored and the focusing equilibrium positions of the particles with various elasticity numbers and particle diameters are compared to illustrate the mechanism of particle focusing and separation in viscoelastic fluids. The results indicate that, for particle focusing in the square channel (AR = 1), the centerline single focusing becomes a bistable focusing at the centerline and corners as
increases. In the rectangular channels (AR < 1), particles with different diameters have different equilibrium positions. The equilibrium position of large particles is closer to the wall, and large particles have a faster lateral migration speed and few large particles migrate towards the channel center. Compared with the square channel, the rectangular channel is a better design for particle separation.
The authors evaluated the proportion of choroidal neovascularization (CNV) detected by spectral-domain optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA) in eyes with chronic central serous ...chorioretinopathy (CSC) (more than 3 months) with previous treatment via half-dose photodynamic therapy (PDT). All patients were followed up with at least twelve months. Macular angiograms were obtained using spectral-domain OCT (SD-OCT, RTVue XR; Optovue). CNV was defined as flow in the outer retinal slab between the outer plexiform layer and Bruch's membrane. Clinical characteristics were compared between CNV and non-CNV groups. Seventy eyes of 61 patients (51 male and 10 female) were included. The average age was 46.2 years old. The average duration of symptom was 32.9 months. All patients were treated with half-dose PDT initially. Eleven eyes (15.7%) received more than one session of PDT. CNV was diagnosed in 32 of 70 eyes (45.7%) based on OCTA. Only 6 of the 32 eyes (18.8%) needed intravitreal anti- vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) therapy for the exudative activity of CNV. Older age (p = 0.059), larger PDT spot size (p = 0.024), and thinner subfoveal choroidal thickness (p = 0.008) were noted in CNV group. The authors conclude that OCTA reveals high rates of CNV associated with chronic CSC after PDT. Patients in the CNV group had older age, larger PDT spot size, and thinner subfoveal choroidal thickness. OCTA may be considered as a first step in identifying CNV in chronic CSC following PDT.

In ...this work, a novel and efficient approach for sodium hypochlorite analysis is proposed via phase-conversion headspace technique, which is based on the gas chromatography (GC) detection of generated carbon dioxide (CO2) from the redox reaction of sodium hypochlorite with sodium oxalate. The data obtained by the proposed method suggest the high detecting precision and accuracy. In addition, the method has low detection limits (limit of quantification (LOQ) = 0.24 μg/mL), and the recoveries of added standard ranged from 98.33 to 101.27 %. The proposed phase-conversion headspace technique is efficient and automated, thereby offering an efficient strategy for highly efficient analysis of sodium hypochlorite and related products.
Thymoquinone (TQ), an active component of Nigella sativa or black cumin, elicits cytotoxic effects on various cancer cell lines. However, the anti-cancer effects of TQ on head and neck squamous cell ...carcinoma (HNSCC) remain unclear.
In this study, TQ elicited a strong cytotoxic effect on SASVO3, a highly malignant HNSCC cell line. The mechanisms of this cytotoxic effect were concentration dependent. TQ also induced apoptotic cell death in SASVO3 cells as indicated by an increase in Bax expression and caspase-9 activation. Apoptosis was possibly caspase-9 dependent because the exposure of cells to a caspase-9 inhibitor partially prevented cell death. The exposed cells also showed increased levels of autophagic vacuoles and LC3-II proteins, which are specific autophagy markers. Cell viability assay results further revealed that bafilomycin-A1, an autophagy inhibitor, enhanced TQ cytotoxicity; by comparison, Annexin V and propidium-iodide staining assay results showed that this inhibitor did not promote apoptosis. TQ treatment also increased the accumulation of autophagosomes. Using a lentivirus-shRNA system for LC3 silencing, we found that cell viability was eradicated in autophagy-defective cells. An in vivo BALB/c nude mouse xenograft model further showed that TQ administered by oral gavage reduced tumor growth via induced autophagy and apoptosis.
These findings indicated that TQ induced cell death in oral cancer cells via two distinct anti-neoplastic activities that can induce apoptosis and autophagy. Therefore, TQ is a promising candidate in phytochemical-based, mechanistic, and pathway-targeted cancer prevention strategies.
