Antineoplastic therapies for prostate cancer (PCa) have traditionally centered around the androgen receptor (AR) pathway, which has demonstrated a significant role in oncogenesis. Nevertheless, it is ...becoming progressively apparent that therapeutic strategies must diversify their focus due to the emergence of resistance mechanisms that the tumor employs when subjected to monomolecular treatments. This review illustrates how the dysregulation of the lipid metabolic pathway constitutes a survival strategy adopted by tumors to evade eradication efforts. Integrating this aspect into oncological management could prove valuable in combating PCa.

Sago and yucca commercial starches were used in order to evaluate their best possible response adhesive properties. The application of response surface methodology in the optimization of properties ...was used. A central composite design to evaluate the effect of four independent variables (starch percentage, NaOH percentage, temperature and cooking time) with respect to one response variable (peel strength) was also used. The properties of sago and yucca starches were compared with the properties of corn starch as reference. DSC showed that sago and yucca starches possess similar gelatinization temperatures when compared to corn starch (68.4 °C, 65.7 °C and 69.7 °C, respectively). Adhesion tests indicated that sago and yucca starches presented maximum peel strengths of 125 N/m and 115 N/m, respectively. In this work, the coefficient of determination R

remained between 0.84 and 0.90; consequently, the quality and effectiveness of the statistical models are considered adequate. These results suggested that sago and yucca starches have potential to be competitive in the global starch market for adhesive applications.
The mechanisms underlying the immunopathology of tuberculous meningitis (TBM), the most severe clinical form of extrapulmonary tuberculosis (TB), are not understood. It is currently believed that the ...spread of Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Mtb) from the lung is an early event that occurs before the establishment of adaptive immunity. Hence, several innate immune mechanisms may participate in the containment of Mtb infection and prevent extrapulmonary disease manifestations. Natural killer (NK) cells participate in defensive processes that distinguish latent TB infection (LTBI) from active pulmonary TB (PTB). However, their role in TBM is unknown. Here, we performed a cross-sectional analysis of circulating NK cellCID="C008" value="s" phenotype in a prospective cohort of TBM patients (n=10) using flow cytometry. Also, we addressed the responses of memory-like NK cell subpopulations to the contact with Mtb antigens in vitro. Finally, we determined plasma levels of soluble NKG2D receptor ligands in our cohort of TBM patients by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Our comparative groups consisted of individuals with LTBI (n=11) and PTB (n=27) patients. We found that NK cells from TBM patients showed lower absolute frequencies, higher CD69 expression, and poor expansion of the CD45RO+ memory-like subpopulation upon Mtb exposure in vitro compared to LTBI individuals. In addition, a reduction in the frequency of CD56brightCD16- NK cells characterized TBM patients but not LTBI or PTB subjects. Our study expands on earlier reports about the role of NK cells in TBM showing a reduced frequency of cytokine-producing cells compared to LTBI and PTB.
A 40-year-old male presented to the Emergency Department after a driving accident with blunt abdominal trauma. An abdominal computed tomography (CT) scan revealed a mesenteric injury in the right ...lower quadrant. He was admitted two months later due to a one-day history of abdominal pain and diarrhea, without fever or blood. The CT angiography showed a pseudoaneurysm located in the proximal ileum and several rigid small bowel (SB) loops with segmental wall thickening of mucosa.

Approximately 25% of the λ6 light chains have glycine rather than arginine at position 25, which is an allelic variant of the IGLV6‐57 (6a) locus. The Gly25 variant has been shown to decrease the ...folding stability of the germline λ6 VL protein 6aJL2 by 1.7 kcal·mol−1. In this work, we compared the thermodynamic and fibrillogenic properties of the amyloidosis (AL) derived recombinant (r) VL protein AR, which contains the allelic variant Gly25, with those of germline rVL 6aJL2‐R25G and the λ6 disease‐associated VL proteins Wil (AL) and Jto (myeloma). Our experiments show that of the four proteins AR is the least stable; forms amyloid fibrils at physiological temperature, pH and ionic strength; has the shortest lag time; and elongates homologous seeds most efficiently. We conclude that the Gly25 allelic variant, together with the somatic mutations, contributes importantly to the extremely low stability and high amyloidogenicity of the AL‐derived protein AR.
This study evaluates the thermodynamic stability and the in vitro fibrillogenesis of the AL‐derived recombinant l6 light chain variable domain (rVL) AR in the context of the allelic variant Gly25, present in around 25% of the l6 light chains reported in the literature. Our data indicates protein AR to be the least thermodynamically stable and most fibrillogenic disease‐associated rVL characterized to date.
Introducción: Latinoamérica dispone de humedales que preservan la vida silvestre, actuán como fuente purificadora del agua y previenen las inundaciones, las sequías y otros desastres ambientales. Sin ...embargo, estos humedales están amenazadas por la eutrofización y por las malezas acuáticas, como es el caso del lirio acuático en la Presa, La Vega, Jalisco, México. Objetivo: La presente investigación proporciona una alternativa para el manejo sustentable del lirio acuático (Eichhornia crassipes) por medio de la obtención de biocarbón y su evaluación. Metodología: Se desarrolló un prototipo funcional de reactor de pirólisis solar, ejecutándose 36 pruebas para pirolizar muestras de lirio acuático con 17-23 % de humedad, aplicando vacío de 5 in Hg en diferentes temperaturas (170, 200 y 230 ºC) y tiempos de residencia (120, 150, 180 y 210 min); encontrándose el mejor rendimiento de biocarbón por el método de superficie de respuesta. Resultados: La optimización del rendimiento se encontró a 170 ºC con un tiempo de residencia de 171.8 min. El biocarbón presentó un poder calorífico de 17.56 MJ/kg, 20.11 % en peso de carbón fijo y 6.89 de relación C/H (carbono-hidrógeno). Conclusiones: Esta propuesta aporta evidencia sobre un nuevo reactor pirolítico solar que procesa el lirio acuático para la producción de biocarbón con alto poder calorífico o como un medio para fijar el carbono, que podrían ser una solución a uno de los efectos de la eutrofización.
