The paper outlines the causes, unfolding and outcomes of the boom and bust of Swiss franc (CHF) loans in Serbia with a focus on their relation to class mobility in the setting of a transition to the ...market economy that transformed the methods of housing acquisition. This process resulted in an extreme housing precarity and declassing for segments of the post-Yugoslav middle and working classes, which has manifested in their dispossession of secure housing, savings, pensions, and the sense of having social security, working towards one's own house and building a family. We demonstrate how besides contributing to declassing, housing precarity played a significant role in rendering CHF-indexed housing debt an opening that activated individual and collective strategies of resistance. Resistance by debtors, and its articulation in the public sphere, relied on multiple logics and tactics-from appeals for existing laws to be respected, to demands for a legal codification of the right to home, to the physical prevention of evictions. These sometimes contradictory and competing logics reflected varied social and economic positions of debtors with their related moralities as well as corresponding different reasonings on acquiring housing, social mobility, and approaches to the financialization of everyday life. By combining the analysis of debtors' personal narratives, public discourses, and the political economy of dependent financialization in Serbia, we flesh out the connection between financialization, housing, ideas about social mobility, post-socialist transformation and declassing. The article reveals how and why predatory loans in post-socialist conditions lead to declassing through precarity and new forms of collective action.
The subject of this paper was a research of physical and mechanical
properties of LVL composed of peeled poplar veneers in core layers and only
outer layers of beech peeled veneers, so as the ...examination of window frame
glue joint strength produced of this material. LVL boards have been hot
pressed in industrial conditions, using appropriate phenol formaldehyde (PP)
adhesive. Samples for corner window frame glue joint strength testing were
glued with PVAc D4 class adhesive. Statistical analysis showed that there
were significant differences both in moisture content and density of LVL
boards regarding their thickness, while in the case of hardness this
difference did not exist. Examinations of LVL glue line shear strength
showed that both phenol formaldehyde (PP) and PVAc D4 class adhesives
fulfilled standard requirements. The results of corner window frame double
tenon glue joint strength produced from combined poplar-beech veneer LVL
indicated that such material could be used to produce window frame corner
joint, strong enough to withstand the additional load, without an increase
of the cross section.

It has been reported that COVID-19 patients in general often experience anxiety, depression and stress, but those problems in patients of temporary COVID-19 hospitals seem to have attracted less ...attention.
The study included 87 SARS-Cov-2 infected subjects accommodated and treated in a temporary hospital in Belgrade, Serbia, during the first epidemic wave of COVID-19. The patients' level of anxiety was assessed on two occasions (at admission to the temporary hospital, and 2 weeks after discharge) using the Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale (HAM-A). Demographic and clinical data were obtained through questionnairesor retrieved from patients' medical records.
A multiple linear regression model revealed that sex, age, the severity of COVID-19 symptoms (COVID-19_SS) and the family history of psychiatric disorder (FHPD) remain significant predictors of the level of anxiety at hospital admission (F (4, 82) = 14.916, p < 0.0001), wih an R2 of 0.421. Participants' predicted level of anxiety at admission to the temporary COVID-19 hospital can be calculated as 0.931–0.708 × SEX +0.029 × AGE +0.674 × COVID-19_SS + 1.491 × FHPD, where SEX is coded as 1 for male and 0 for female, AGE is measured in years, COVID-19_SS is coded as 0 for asymptomatic, 1 for mild, 2 for moderate and 3 for severe, and FHPD as 0 for negative and 1 for positive. Comparison between individual HAM-A score at admission to the temporary hospital (median (IQR): 7.00 (2.00–11.75)) and 2 weeks after discharge (median (IQR): 0.00 (0.00–1.00)) revealed significant reduction in the level of anxiety among study participants (Z = −7.53, p < 0.001).
These data indicate that psychological changes exist in those hospitalized in temporary hospitals, but that they regress soon after they leave.
•The anxiety was analyzed in patients with Covid-19 placed in the central temporary hospital in Belgrade.•Significantly higher anxiety was shown by females, the elderly and those with comorbidities.•Anxiety depended on the severity of the disease.•Anxiety decreased significantly 2 weeks after discharge from the temporary hospital.•The role of previous mental disorders has had a significant impact on the manifestation of anxiety.
Introduction. Kidney failure in multiple myeloma is some-times initial symptomatology and a very serious complication with an unfavorable effect on the course and prognosis of the disease. Multiple ...myeloma is a disease characterized by the proliferation of plasmocytes in the bone marrow, and in rare cases, it can be extramedullary in various organs and systems. Pulmonary plasmacytoma localization is a rare extramedullary localization, especially when it represents one of the initial manifestations of multiple myeloma. Case report. We present a patient with progressive acute kidney failure who has started hemodialysis treatment. On chest radiography, a homogeneous shadow was observed along the left chest wall, and the multislice computed tomography (MSCT) pointed to the tumor formation in the pulmonary parenchyma in the projection of the left upper pulmonary lobe with signs of pleural infiltration, intercostal muscles, and V rib destruction. Laboratory examination indicated the presence of Bence-Jones proteinuria in the urine sample in addition to anemia syndrome and azotemia with hyperuricemia. After bronchoscopy and needle biopsy, diffuse infiltration of mature plasma cells was demonstrated in the cytological and histopathological findings of the lungs. The histopathological finding of bone marrow biopsy indicated multiple myeloma of Lambda type with infiltration of plasma cells ? about 70%. The hematologist determined a diagnosis of multiple myeloma BJ lambda III BCS, with extramedullary lung infiltration and acute kidney failure. Further treatment was continued according to the hematological protocol while performing intermittent hemodialysis. Conclusion. Sometimes, extremely rarely, and in completely asymptomatic patients with massive pulmonary infiltration observed initially, the differential diagnosis may also represent an extramedullary presentation of multiple myeloma, which should be considered.
The aim of this study was to evaluate alterations in depressive-like behaviors in rats following chronic administration of a supraphysiological dose of anabolic androgenic steroids (AASs) as well as ...exposure to a prolonged exercise protocol. The role of hippocampal sex hormones receptors in the modulation of depressive-like behavior was also assessed. A total of 48 male Wistar albino rats were divided into six groups: control, exercise (1 h/day, five consecutive days), nandrolone-decanoate (ND, 20 mg/kg/week, in a single dose), exercise plus ND, testosterone-enanthate (TE, 20 mg/kg/week, in a single dose), and exercise plus TE. After the 6-week protocols were complete, the rats underwent behavioral testing in the tail suspension test (TST). Rats were sacrificed for the collection of blood samples, to determine sex hormones levels, and isolation of the hippocampus, to determine androgen receptors (AR) and estrogen receptors α (ERα) expression. ND and TE treatment induced significant depressive-like behavior, opposing the antidepressant effect of exercise. Chronic TE administration elevated testosterone (T) and dihydrotestosterone (DHT) serum levels, and this was augmented by exercise. In contrast, ND and exercise alone did not alter T or DHT levels. There were no changes in serum estradiol levels in any of the groups. Immunohistochemical analysis showed that exercise reduced AR immunoreactivity in all hippocampal regions and increased the ERα expression in the CA1, dentate gyrus (DG), and total hippocampal sections, but not in the CA2/3 region. AASs administration increased AR expression in all hippocampal regions, although not the total hippocampal section in the TE group and did not significantly decrease ERα. The hippocampal AR/ERα expression index was lowered while parvalbumin (PV)-immunoreactivity was enhanced by exercise. AASs administration increased the AR/ERα index and reduced PV-immunoreactivity in the hippocampus. The number of PV-immunoreactive neurons negatively correlated with the antidepressant effects and the AR/ERα ratio. Our results suggest a potential role of the numerical relationship between two sex hormones receptors (stronger correlation than for each individual receptor) in the regulation of depressive-like behavior

Volcano-sedimentary basins located in the orogenic hinterland area overlying subducted slabs are observed worldwide to be driven by the switching tectonic regimes induced by the changing mechanics of ...the slab. Despite many qualitative studies, the quantitative link between the subducted slab?s mechanics and the overlying basins? evolution is less understood. Among the many examples observed worldwide, the Timok Magmatic Complex (TMC) in Serbia represents an optimal natural laboratory due to the complex tectonic setting during the various stages of the Middle Jurassic-Paleogene evolution of the subduction system. The TMC is a segment of the larger Late Cretaceous Apuseni-Banat-Timok-Srednogorie (ABTS) magmatic belt, formed in response to the evolution of the subducted Mesozoic Neotethys oceanic slab beneath the Carpatho-Balkanides of south-eastern Europe. The TMC basin, with the associated intrusive and extrusive magmatics and volcano-sedimentary deposits, represents an excellent area for a process-oriented study on the interplay between tectonics, sedimentation, and magmatism in the basins above evolving subducted slabs. Within the scope of the newly funded TMCmod project, coupled field and laboratory kinematic and petrological investigations will be focused on creating a conceptual definition of the TMC geodynamic evolution, by combining near-surface observations with the known evolution of the subduction system. This definition will be subsequently validated through analogue modelling and integrated into a coherent geodynamic model of tectonic switching in basins driven by the evolution of subducted slabs. The new model of the TMC basin?s geodynamic evolution will quantitatively advance the strategy of prospecting and exploration of world-class porphyry copper- gold deposits, which have been actively exploited in this region for more than a century. Furthermore, reconstructed regional kinematic evolution will improve seismic hazard assessment during industrial and societal infrastructure planning and construction.
The aim of this study was to investigate histamine blood concentration in subjects suffering from different types of ischemic heart diseases during the period of eight days. Our results showed that ...the histamine blood level was associated with different types of ischemic heart diseases. The blood histamine level in all investigated patients was significantly higher when compared to control subjects (44.87 ± 1.09 ng mL−1), indicating the increase of histamine release in patients suffering from coronary diseases. In patients suffering from ACS-UA and ACS-STEMI, the second day peak of histamine level occurs (90.85 ± 6.34 ng mL−1 and 121.7 ± 6.34 ng mL−1, resp.) probably as the reperfusion event. Furthermore, our data suggest that histamine can be additional parameter of myocardial ischemia along with cardiac specific enzymes and may prove to be an excellent single prognostic marker for multitude of ischemic heart diseases.
N terminal-proB-type natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP) is synthesised and secreted from the ventricular myocardium. This marker is known to be elevated in patients with acute coronary syndromes (ACS). ...We evaluated NT-proBNP asa significant diagnostic marker and an important independent predictor of short-term mortality (one month) in patients with ACS.
NT-proBNP and cardiac troponin I (cTI) were assessed in 134 consecutive patients (median age 66 years, 73% male)hospitalised for ACS in a cardiological university department. The patients were classified into ST-elevation ACS (STE-ACS, n = 74) and non-ST-elevation ACS (NSTE-ACS, n = 60) groups based on the ECG findings on admission. Patients with Killip class ≥ II were excluded.
The serum level of NT-proBNP on admission was significantly higher (p < 0.0005), while there was no difference in cTI serum level in the NSTE-ACS patients compared to STE-ACS patients. There was a significant positive correlation between NT-proBNP and cTI in the NSTE-ACS (r = 0.338, p = 0.008) and STE-ACS (r = 0.441, p < 0.0005) patients. There was a significant difference in NT-proBNP (p < 0.0005) and cTI (p < 0.0005) serum level between ACS patients who died within 30 days or who survived after one month. The increased NT-proBNP level is the strongest predictor of mortality in ACS patients, also NT-proBNP cut-point level of 1,490 pg/mL is a significant independent predictor of mortality.
We demonstrated the differences and the correlation in the secretion of NT-proBNP and cTI in patients with STE-ACS vs. NSTE-ACS. Our results provide evidence that NT-proBNP is a significant diagnostic marker and an important independent predictor of short-term mortality in patients with ACS.
