Introducción: Un nacimiento prematuro trae consigo la interrupción de la temprana relación madre-hijo, que influye en la formación del apego o en las actitudes hacia la crianza y se convierten en una ...situación de especial vulnerabilidad. Objetivo: Determinar las actitudes de madres adultas y adolescentes hacia la crianza de bebés prematuros. Método: Estudio de corte transversal, con muestra no probabilística de 204 madres de bebés prematuros. La información se recolectó entre agosto y diciembre del 2013 en Bucaramanga, a través del Inventario de Paternidad para Adultos y Adolescentes, conformado por cuatro dimensiones relacionadas con las expectativas inadecuadas, falta de empatía, la creencia en el castigo físico y la inversión del rol materno, que miden el riesgo de negligencia en el cuidado. Se utilizó el programa Stata versión 12R, para el procesamiento y análisis de la información. Resultados: Las madres tanto adolescentes como adultas no mostraron diferencias estadísticamente significativas en la puntuación de las dimensiones expectativas inadecuadas (p = 0,97), creencia en el castigo físico (p = 0,34), inversión del rol materno (p = 0,68), las cuales se ubicaron en calificaciones promedias y altas, pero en la dimensión falta de empatía sí hubo diferencia significativa (p = 0,02). La mayoría de madres presentaron un riesgo mínimo de negligencia en el cuidado. Conclusiones: Al parecer, la condición de prematurez hace que estos dos grupos de madres no tengan diferencias significativas en sus actitudes hacia la crianza, pues, en general, son adecuadas, a pesar de la vivencia de la hospitalización con mucha carga de estrés.
Introduction. In carrot cultivation direct sowing is practiced because the seedling cannot resist the stress of transplanting. Seeds vigor is associated with yield performance in the field and, at the international level there are different test to measure it. However, in carrot, the methodologies are still scarce and are not standardized. Objective. To determine the physiological quality in seeds of two varieties of carrot (Daucus carota L.) by mean of vigor tests. Materials and methods. This research was carried out at the Centro para Investigaciones en Granos y Semillas (CIGRAS) of the Universidad de Costa Rica in 2018. Seeds of Bangor and Triunfo varieties with moisture percentages of 7 %, 10 %, and 13 % were used. The vigor tests used were the following: radicle protrusion, first germination count (seven days), accelerated aging, electrical conductivity, and the germination analysis by digital images. Pearson’s correlation analyses were performed between the variables studied. Results. Significant correlation coefficients (Pearson’s r) were observed for electrical conductivity with variables obtained from the image analysis: t10 (r=0.83), t50 (r=0.87), and the area under the curve (r=-0.72). Trough the electrical conductivity test, it was determined that the Bangor lot had greater vigor than the Triunfo lot (Tukey, p≤0.05). Conclusions. The analysis of digital images and the electrical conductivity tests allowed measuring the vigor in seed lots of Bangor and Triunfo varieties, and complementing them with germination results to determine their physiological quality.
Introducción. En el cultivo de zanahoria se practica la siembra directa, debido a que las plantas no soportan el estrés del trasplante, por lo que es fundamental utilizar semillas que germinen en máximo siete días y de forma uniforme. El vigor de las semillas está asociado al desempeño en campo y, a nivel internacional, existen diferentes pruebas para medirlo, sin embargo, en zanahoria aún las metodologías son escasas y no se encuentran estandarizadas. Objetivo. Determinar la calidad fisiológica en semillas de dos variedades de zanahoria (Daucus carota L.), mediante pruebas de vigor. Materiales y métodos. Este trabajo se realizó en el Centro para Investigaciones en Granos y Semillas de la Universidad de Costa Rica durante el año 2018. Se utilizaron semillas de las variedades Bangor y Triunfo con porcentajes de humedad de 7 %, 10 % y 13 %. Las pruebas de vigor utilizadas fueron las siguientes: protrusión radical, primer conteo de germinación (siete días), envejecimiento acelerado, conductividad eléctrica y análisis de germinación por medio de imágenes digitales. Se realizaron análisis de correlación de Pearson entre las variables estudiadas. Resultados. Se observaron coeficientes de correlación (r de Pearson) significativos de la conductividad eléctrica con variables obtenidas del análisis de imágenes: t10 (r=0,83), t50 (r=0,87) y el área bajo la curva (r=-0,72). A través de la prueba de conductividad eléctrica se determinó que el lote de Bangor presentó mayor vigor que el lote de Triunfo (Tukey, p≤0,05). Conclusiones. El análisis de imágenes digitales y la prueba de conductividad eléctrica permitieron medir el vigor en lotes de semillas de las variedades Bangor y Triunfo, y complementarlos con los resultados de germinación para determinar su calidad fisiológica.
The objective of this analysis was to compare the performance characteristics of two human papillomavirus (HPV) DNA detections assays, the Hybrid Capture 2 assay (HC2) and the SPF₁₀ assay, for the ...detection of carcinogenic HPV. Data are from the enrollment visits of women who participated in the randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled phase III HPV16/18 Vaccine Trial in Guanacaste, Costa Rica. We compared the results of HC2 and SPF₁₀ testing of cervical specimens. Since the line probe assay (LiPA) detection system does not distinguish between HPV type 68 (HPV68; which is targeted by HC2) and HPV73 (which is not targeted by HC2), for SPF₁₀-LiPA, we defined the carcinogenic HPV types as the 12 HC2-targeted types (types 16, 18, 31, 33, 35, 39, 45, 51, 52, 56, 58, and 59), HPV68/73, and the HC2-cross-reactive, carcinogenic type HPV66. The kappa values and the performance characteristics for the detection of cervical abnormalities were ascertained. Paired observations were available for 5,683 sexually active, young women (median age, 21 years). The prevalence of carcinogenic HPV types was 35% (n = 1,962) by HC2 and 35% (n = 2,003) by SPF₁₀-LiPA. There were no differences in the prevalence of carcinogenic HPV types by HC2 and SPF₁₀-LiPA among women with normal, atypical squamous cells of undetermined significance and high-grade squamous intraepithelial lesion cytology. Among women with low-grade squamous intraepithelial lesion cytology, HC2 was more likely to test positive than SPF₁₀-LiPA for the carcinogenic HPV types (87% and 79%, respectively; P = 0.001) as a result of HC2 cross-reactivity with HPV types 40, 43, 44, 53, 54, 60, 70, and 74. The crude agreement between the two assays was 88%, with a kappa value of 0.75 (95% confidence limits, 0.73 to 0.76). We observed very good agreement between HC2 and SPF₁₀-LiPA for carcinogenic HPV type detection.
The HPV vaccine has shown sustained efficacy and consistent stabilization of antibody levels, even after a single dose. We defined the HPV16-VLP antibody avidity patterns over 11 years among women ...who received one- or three doses of the bivalent HPV vaccine in the Costa Rica HPV Vaccine Trial. Absolute HPV16 avidity was lower in women who received one compared to three doses, although the patterns were similar (increased in years 2 and 3 and remained stable over the remaining 8 years). HPV16 avidity among women who were HPV16-seropositive women at HPV vaccination, a marker of natural immune response to HPV16 infection, was significantly lower than those of HPV16-seronegative women, a difference that was more pronounced among one-dose recipients. No differences in HPV16 avidity were observed by HPV18 serostatus at vaccination, confirming the specificity of the findings. Importantly, point estimates for vaccine efficacy against incident, six-month persistent HPV16 infections was similar between women who were HPV16 seronegative and seropositive at the time of initial HPV vaccination for both one-dose and three-dose participants. It is therefore likely that this lower avidity level is still sufficient to enable antibody-mediated protection. It is encouraging for long-term HPV-vaccine protection that HPV16 antibody avidity was maintained for over a decade, even after a single dose.
Pictures of objects have been shown to automatically activate affordances, that is, actions that could be performed with the object. Similarly, pictures of faces are likely to activate social ...affordances, that is, interactions that would be possible with the person whose face is being presented. Most interestingly, if it is the face of a real person that is shown, one particular type of social interactions can even be carried out while event-related potentials (ERPs) are recorded. Indeed, subtle eye movements can be made to achieve an eye contact with the person with minimal artefacts on the EEG. The present study thus used the face of a real person to explore the electrophysiological correlates of affordances in a situation where some of them (i.e., eye contacts) are actually performed. The ERPs this person elicited were compared to those evoked by another 3D stimulus: a real dummy, and thus by a stimulus that should also automatically activate eye contact affordances but with which such affordances could then be inhibited since they cannot be carried out with an object. The photos of the person and of the dummy were used as matching stimuli that should not activate social affordances as strongly as the two 3D stimuli and for which social affordances cannot be carried out. The fronto-central N300s to the real dummy were found of greater amplitudes than those to the photos and to the real person. We propose that these greater N300s index the greater inhibition needed after the stronger activations of affordances induced by this 3D stimulus than by the photos. Such an inhibition would not have occurred in the case of the real person because eye contacts were carried out.
La exégesis de las bienaventuranzas de Mt 5, 3-10 pretende iluminar la vivencia cristiana, como propuesta evangélica del proyecto único de Jesús cuando anunció el Reino y la humanización del ser ...humano, desde la restauración de su dignidad. A partir de la aplicación del Método Histórico Crítico al texto, resaltan ciertos hallazgos que permiten entrever una estrecha relación entre ley y evangelio; sin embargo, Jesús, en las bienaventuranzas, tiene una intención más humanizadora que paraclética. La tesis central en este escrito es que las bienaventuranzas entretejen la humanidad de Cristo en la persona que elige y vive el camino del amor. Además, éstas constituyen una clave de lectura para la preparación, celebración y vivencia del sacramento de la reconciliación.
Introducción: El nacimiento prematuro de un bebé genera estrés en los padres, por el riesgo de aumento en la morbimortalidadque esto conlleva. Existen intervenciones que disminuyen el nivel de estrés ...en los padres beneficiando a su vez el neurodesarrollo delrecién nacido. Objetivo: Categorizar los principales componentes de los programas de intervención temprana y determinar el efecto deestas intervenciones en la disminución del nivel de estrés en padres de prematuros hospitalizados. Método: Meta-análisis con 9 ensayosclínicos controlados, que cumplieron los criterios de rigurosidad metodológica. Resultados: las intervenciones aplicadas a los padresde prematuros hospitalizados, mostraron efecto de intensidad media-baja sobre el nivel de estrés percibido (d=0,36 IC -0.68, -0,05).Sin embargo, las pruebas de heterogeneidad indican alta variabilidad inter-estudio (Q(df=8) = p-val: <0,00001), I2=85% ), explicadaparcialmente por las características moderadoras codificadas para los estudios. Conclusiones: aunque las intervenciones mostraronefectos positivos en la disminución del nivel de estrés en los padres, se evidencia que la educación y el apoyo emocional en conjunto logranun mejor efecto. Las futuras investigaciones deben analizar aspectos como calidad de los estudios, intervenciones con apoyo emocional,edad de los padres y diversidad en los contextos de aplicación.
