To explore type 2 diabetes prevalence and its risk factors among migrants and nonmigrants aged 35 years and older in Three Gorge Dam area in Yichang City of Hubei province, China.
A sample of 9865 ...rural residents (including 1949 Three Gorge Dam migrants and 7916 nonmigrants) aged 35 years old and over was selected from September to December in 2007 by the method of multi-stage cluster random sampling in Yiling district, Yichang City of Hubei province. The study subjects were assessed by interview, examination, and blood samples. Information on demographics, migrant information, lifestyle, history of diabetes and hypertension was obtained by a questionnaire interview. An overnight fasting blood specimen was collected to measure serum glucose, total cholesterol, triglyceride, high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) and low density lipoprotein-cholesterol (LDL-C). Height, weight, waist circumference, hip circumference and blood pressure were measured. Oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT) was carried out for t

Anthropogenic arsenic (As) emitted from coal combustion is one of key trace elements leading to negative air pollution and national economy loss. It is of great significance to estimate the ...atmospheric arsenic emission for proposing relevant laws or regulations and selecting proper pollution control technologies. The inventories of atmospheric arsenic emissions from coal combustion in China were evaluated by adopting the emission factor method based on fuel consumption. Arsenic emission sources were firstly classified into several categories by economic sectors, combustion types and pollution control technologies. Then, according to provincial coal consumption and averaged arsenic concentration in the feed fuel, the inventories of atmospheric arsenic emission from coal combustion in China in 2005 were established. Coal outputand consumption in China in 2005 were 2,119.8 and 2,099.8 Mt, respectively. The total emissions of arsenic released into the atmosphere in 2005 in China were estimated at about 1,564.4 t,
The purpose of this study is to apply the commonly used biodiversity conservation method, Systematic Conservation Planning, to identify the priority conservation areas in Harbin, China, using the ...conservation planning software C-Plan. Biodiversity features, spatial distributions and respective targets were compiled into C-Plan and built a database to calculate the irreplaceability index which represents the conservation value of sites. Results showed that about 30% of the study area has moderate or higher biodiversity conservation value. This process enables conservation planning and prioritizing work to be more scientific providing a feasible and effective framework for the establishment of urban conservation systems.
Phytochemical investigation on the Panax notoginseng fruits (PNF) led to the isolation of twelve compounds, including nine triterpenoid saponins (1–9) and three flavonoids (10–12). The structures of ...these isolates were identified on the basis of spectroscopic analysis, as well as comparisons with the data available in the literature. All compounds were firstly isolated from PNF, among them, compound 1 was firstly obtained as a natural product, compound 2 was reported for the first time in family Araliaceae, moreover, the complete 1H- and 13C- NMR spectra of this isolate was reported for the first time. Furthermore, the chemotaxonomic significance of these compounds was discussed.
•Twelve compounds were firstly isolated from the Panax notoginseng fruits.•Compound 1 was firstly obtained as a natural product.•Compound 2 was reported for the first time in family Araliaceae.•These compounds enrich the chemical diversity of the family Araliaceae.
To construct lentiviral vectors expressing pSicoR-
shRNA and evaluate its efficiency of RNA interference in neonatal rats' brain.
Plasmid vectors pSicoR-
shRNA and pSicoR-control,as well as ...lentiviral packaging system
and
were amplified respectively and plasmid DNA was identified by restriction enzyme digestion. Lentiviral packaging system and expressing vector pSicoR-
shRNA/pSicoR-control were co-transfected into packaging cell line 293T. Lentiviral particles expressing
-shRNA or control sequence packaged and secreted by 293T were collected, concentrated by PEG-it,and viral titers were assayed by 50% tissue culture infective dose (TCID50). RNAi for integrin
in neonatal rats' brain was performed by intraventricular injection of lentivirus expressing
-shRNA and rats received lentivirus expressing
-shRNA were served as control. Green fluorescent protein (GFP) expression after intraventricular injection of GFP-Lentivirus was observed under fluorescence microscope,
mRNA and β8 protein expression were detected by R
The broad-leaved Korean pine(Pinus koraiensis) forest is one of the most biodiverse zonal communities in the North Temperate Zone and an important habitat for many endangered species.Broad-leaved ...Korean pine forests(BKPFs) are shrinking quickly due to deforestation and rapid urbanization. Thus, scientific protection strategies are urgently needed to change this status. Changbai Mountains contains one of the largest BKPFs and is considered a priority biodiversity conservation area in China. Guided by systematic conservation planning(SCP) methods and procedures, we chose representative species and communities in BKPFs ecosystem as priority conservation objects, and set quantitative conservation target, which is in the light of the biodiversity characteristic of BKPFs. The watershed area is used as planning unit. We used CPlan software to calculate the irreplaceability(Ir)value of each planning unit and the contribution value(Ti) of each conservation object to(1) assess the conservation efficiency;(2) identify the conservation gap of the existing conservation network. Then wecalculated a human disturbance index(HDI) for planning units in the conservation gaps and combine this with the Ir value to design three conservation scenarios to optimize the conservation network. Results show that planning units with high conservation value 14.16% of the total area, with3084.36 km2 were covered by the existing conservation network. 79.28% of planning units with high conservation value have not been protected which were concentrated mainly in the eight gap areas.Only 25.3% of protection objects achieved their conservation target with the existing conservation network. Conservation efficiency is low. Three conservation scenarios are constituted, each prioritizing a different aim:(1) ecological value;(2)species rescue; and(3) economical avoidance. The three conservation schemes potentially enable 93%,88% and 51% of conservation objects, respectively, to achieve identified conservation targets, thereby improving conservation efficiency significantly.
High-mobility group A1 (HMGA1), an architectural transcription factor, participates in different human tumors' biological progression. HMGA1 overexpression is associated with malignant cellular ...behavior in a wide range of cancers but the underlying mechanism remains poorly illuminated. In this study, we showed PI3K/Akt/MMP9 pathway activity could be positively regulated by HMGA1 using western blotting, real-time polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) and immunochemistry both in vitro (C918 and MUM-2B cell lines) and in vivo (xenograft mouse model). Later, MiRTarBase was used to identify the relationship between HMGA1 and miR-222-3p, we found miR-222 is positively regulated by HMGA1. Moreover, the proliferation and migration of UM cells significantly increased in the miR-222 mimics group and decreased in the miR-222 inhibitor group detected by the Annexin V-FITC apoptosis detection kit, CCK-8 and scratch wound-healing. The p-PI3K, p-Akt and MMP9 expressions were elevated in UM cells transfected with miR-222 mimics, and suppressed in the miR-222 inhibitor group. Together, our study highlights that HMGA1 acts as a pivotal regulator in UM tumor growth, proposing a critical viewpoint that HMGA1 expedites progression through the PI3K/Akt/MMP9 pathway and oncogenic miR-222 in UM.
