The themes of well-being and sense of place are also at the heart of the essay by Ratković Ayemir, Tolić and Jagić Boljat. ‘Intangible cultural heritage as a catalyst of well-being and a tool for ...development of Pleternica, Croatia’ offers a specific case study of post-war heritage and sustainable development through ICH – the local bećarac song. As a living tradition, the bećarac song is posited as a means for the community to realise a number of unexpected outcomes, such as traits of their local sense of humour. The authors outline how, through a participatory community-based methodology, they strengthened the local sense of identity, belonging and togetherness in the process of creating a museum, but they stress that to work in an effective manner, heritage interpreters need to practice ‘empathy’ with the local community, a concept of increasing relevance to museum studies today (Gokcigdem 2016).
The author advocates the use of the phrase “intangible culture” instead of “intangible cultural heritage”. The word “heritage” implies a certain fixity and immutability, and assumes that authorities ...have identified and proclaimed heritage. Dealing with intangible culture would provide the opportunity for the deflection of the UNESCO model of preserving intangible cultural phenomena, whose application has brought some problems. The author illustrates this in practice with the example of bell-ringers, who are included on the UNESCO Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
Generalni direktor UNESCO-a je vec dvije godine ranije obznanio Proklamaciju o iznimnim ostvarenjima usmene i nematerijalne bastine covjecanstva (The Proclamation of Masterpieces of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity), koja je svake dvije godine ukljucivala nova kulturna dobra na svoju listu.
Nikocevic discusses the problem of "intangible culture." Dealing with intangible culture would provide the opportunity for the deflection of the UNESCO model of preserving intangible cultural ...phenomena, whose application has brought some problems. He then illustrates this in practice with the example of bell-ringers, who are included on the UNESCO Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
The founding of the museum is a part of the development project Ogulin - the home of fairytales, whose mission is the creation of an identity for Ogulin, a small town in central Croatia, as a unique ...and attractive destination with a fairytale heritage. This special cultural and tourist offering is based on the potential of the fairytales of Ivana
Brlić-Mažuranić, a Croatian authoress who has been translated all over the world and who drew on her inspiration for fairytales from Old Slavic legends and stories, as well as from lingering memories of the enchanted beauty of her native soil - Ogulin and the surrounding area. The realisation of the mission of creating the brand of “Ogulin - the home of fairytales” is aimed at the development of two speciÞ c cultural and tourism “products”: a museum “The home of Ivana’s fairytales” and an international annual event - the Fairytale Festival in Ogulin. The Þ rst regional fairytale museum will consist
of a multimedia and interactivebased permanent exhibition and a thematic trail in the surrounding region following the framework of Ivana Brlić-Mažuranić’s fairytales. The target audience is compatible with the festival audience and both tourist attractions are complementary. The main target group is pre-school children and schoolchildren, as well as families, lovers of nature and mountains, and all those grown-ups who have never stopped being children at heart! The project has a pronounced impact for the development
of a broad spectrum of local participants and the entire local population. The implementation envisages the cooperation of local, regional and European cultural, tourist and educational factors
from public, civil and private sectors.
