The authors propose, design, and implement a low-cost universal smart energy meter (USEM) with demand-side load management. The meter can be used in the postpaid and prepaid modes with flexible ...tariff plans such as time of use, block rate tariff, and their combination. The smart meter comprises of a potential transformer, current transformer, and microcontroller unit with an embedded communication module. The connectivity among the utility authority, the smart meter, and consumer is established by authority identification number, meter identification number, and user identification number using the cellular network. The load management option of the meter controls electrical loads and provides emergency power during the power shortage. The USEM can be configured and reconfigured remotely simply by short message service without changing hardware. Besides, energy consumption status, meter tampering, and fault at the distribution end can be monitored with the proposed metering system. Here, a prototype of the smart meter is presented, and its effectiveness, flexibility, and versatility are experimentally demonstrated.

We propose, design, and construct a smart load management (SLM) system that can be effectively utilized to meet up emergency demand (light and fan) of consumers when power generation is not ...sufficient with respect to its demand. The connectivity among power distribution authority, SLM device, and user are established by authority identification number, device identification number, and user identification number using GSM-based mobile network. The SLM device can be configured and reconfigured load simply by SMS without changing hardware or software. Using the device, the power distribution authority will be able to provide power for emergency loads of all consumers and also to monitor maximum allowable permitted load. Instead of complete blackout, SLM device facilitates switching over from permitted load to emergency and vice versa depending on the availability of the power supply. The SLM system can be effectively applied in a country where demand of electricity is more than its generation.
It is well-known that an artificial agent exhibits deterministic dynamics when it moves in a closed real world environment. It is interesting to determine this dynamics when a real biological being ...such as fish is kept in a real closed environment and free to move in it. This paper determines some deterministic dynamics of fish motion freely moving in a closed environment. The task is divided into several stages - image capturing, image processing, time series extraction, Chaos analysis and Classification. The classification performance is analyzed with feed forward neural network (FNN), Recurrent Neural network, Fuzzy network, Bagged Regression trees and Echo state network (ESN). Simulation result exhibits that the proposed ESN algorithm outperforms other networks.
Autonomous navigation is an important feature that allows a mobile robot to independently move from a point to another without an intervention from a human operator. Autonomous navigation within an ...unknown area requires the robot to explore, localize and map its surroundings. By solving a maze, the pertaining algorithms and behaviour of the robot can be studied and improved upon. This paper describes an implementation of a maze-solving robot designed to solve a maze with turning indicators. The black turning indicators tell the robot which way to turn at the intersections to reach at the centre of the maze. Detection of intersection line and turning indicators in the maze was done by using LDR sensors. Algorithm for straight-line correction was based on PI(D) controller.
