Speed, cost, and quality have been the central issues in the translation industry. While computers can offer fast and economical translation, their ability to produce accurate translation at a ...publishable level like human translators may do is still questionable. In the present study, the author linguistically evaluated the accuracy of English to Indonesian translation generated by Google Translate. Freely accessible English texts of various types were chosen to heuristically exemplify the units of analysis. The results of analysis lead to the conclusion that although Google’s Neural Machine Translation system is quite an improvement to the conventional phrase-based translation system, highly accurate translation does not seem to be achieved by Google Translate in the near future.
The development of digital technology in the era of the industrial revolution 4.0 requires today’s younger generations to demonstrate media literacy. Respondents were 100 university undergraduate students in Indonesia selected randomly. The results showed that 60-80% respondents demonstrated medium level technical skills, 80-90% of them have low critical understanding, and 45% of them displayed medium communicative abilities. In addition, media literacy was found to significantly influence students’ social character as much as 49%. The finding of this study implies the need for literacy education is imminent because low media literacy may lead to low social character.
Numerous studies have highlighted the need for competent teachers in today’s classrooms. Many suggest that to meet this demand, the preparation should be stipulated at the pre-service level so, when ...the graduates become in-service teachers, they are already well-prepared to meet the requirements of competent teachers. This study explores the use of pedafiction stories and reflection to familiarize EFL pre-service teachers with teacher competence. The data were obtained from observation, focus group interviews and reflection papers to be analyzed by using thematic analysis (Braun Clarke, 2022). Forty-two pre-service teachers were involved in six TEFL class sessions focusing on the topic of English Teacher Competence in the Indonesian context. They read and reflected on the pedafiction stories, shared their reflections on the stories through a pair-share activity, and wrote individual reflections. The findings reveal that pedafiction stories exploration and reflection have enabled the pre-service teachers to identify the English teacher competencies shown by the character in the story. Besides, the pre-service teachers could relate the topic of teacher competence to a broader social context. Pedafiction and reflection, to a certain extent, have also contributed to the development of the pre-service teachers’ teaching identity. The findings shed light on the potential of stories and reflective practice for English teacher preparation at the pre-service level.

By rebus sic stantibus, the countries with their efforts could demand their rights back. Differences in terminology can thus blurthe differencesand the similarities in the implementation. The ...International Law Commission has rejected the usage of the terminology of rebus sic stantibus. They prefer using the terminology of the doctrine of fundamental changes on equality and justice reasons, and getting rid of the terminology of rebus sic stantibus as it is assumed to cause unintended effects. This doctrine, in fact has been performed, primarily after the end of the war between the allies and Germany. A conditional change can be expressed, although it can not properly be predicted before. We applied genome shuffling to improve the acid tolerance of Lactobacillus plantarum, while simultaneously enhancing lactic acid production. The starting populations were mutant libraries generated ...by gradual low pH adaptation and ultraviolet irradiation and then which were subjected to recursive protoplast fusion. A library of shuffled mutants (fusants) with genetic exchange is achieved by repetition of this process. After three rounds of genome shuffling, we obtained the best performing fusant that grow better at low pH 4.0 and consume glucose faster than does the wild type. In addition, lactic acid production of this fusant was 64% higher than that of the wild type. These results demonstrated that the genome shuffling has been successful in engineering L. plantarum with multiple beneficial improved phenotypes. In the future, this technology is a promising candidate to accelerate poorly characterized strains for commercialization
