Businesses have been exposed to various challenges during the global pandemic, and their response to this disruption has impacted their resilience as well as their chances to overcome this crisis. ...Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are changing their business models in order to adapt to this changing environment. Service-based industries have been hit particularly hard. This research investigates how SMEs operating in service industries have been coping with the disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. This research aims to gain insights into which transformation drivers they have focused on and which technologies they have selected as a means to respond to the disruption. These insights regarding SMEs are then explored according to their influence on the redefinition of sustainable business models in SMEs. The review data was analyzed via a customized research framework that contains three dimensions and 30 subconcepts. The results show the distribution of drivers and technologies across service sectors. They are organized into a Business Model Canvas and could be considered useful for academia and practitioners. The highly unpredictable environment allows for only a few feasible strategic approaches regarding an SME’s decision on to follow incumbents, to become a challenger, or to reinvent themselves based on their own transformation drivers and readiness to apply digital technologies.
Complexity of the digital transformation (Digital Transformation) paradigm and its relation to the fourth technological revolution face companies with serious challenges when it comes to keeping up ...with the competition or becoming a leader in operating industries.
The goal of our research is to systematize, analyse and evaluate technological and business concepts of Digital Transformation, in order to identify and investigate Digital Transformation initiatives in Croatia.
To accomplish this goal, we used a multiple-case study approach to gather data from experts who participated in successful Digital Transformation initiatives.
Questionnaires were developed and used to gather both, qualitative background and technology-business related data relevant for Digital Transformation initiatives’ success, discussed in the last part of the paper. The limitation of this study is a relatively small number of case studies (6), as well as its local coverage, resulting therefore with conclusions, which will serve as a base for future studies.
There are several background, business, and technology-related concepts or factors relevant to Digital Transformation initiatives: profile and involvement of external Digital Transformation experts; the transformation drivers and expectations. In achieving most significant business concepts for business transformation, no single one right combination of technological concepts could be explicitly determined.
Digital transformation (DT) introduces strategy-oriented and customer-centric changes, based on innovative usage of emerging information and communication technology (ICT), to implement improved or ...new processes in modern organizations. This paper provides insights into academic publishing trends and offers an analysis of scientific fields in which researches were made followed by a brief analysis of the most influential articles. Paper also identifies and discusses key determinants and influence factors of DT and some emerging trends and technologies, in order to explain organizational and technological context of DT. For better understanding of this mix of business and ICT related concepts, a framework of concepts on DT was developed and called Digital transformation playground (DTP). Its purpose is to get better understanding of what are the mainstream concepts of today, what other and emerging ICT or digitalization concepts in the context of DT arise, and how these technology elements impact business related concepts.
Digital transformation is an emerging trend in developing the way how the work is being done, and it is present in the private and public sector, in all industries and fields of work. Smart cities, ...as one of the concepts related to digital transformation, is usually seen as a matter of local governments, as it is their responsibility to ensure a better quality of life for the citizens. Some cities have already taken advantages of possibilities offered by the concept of smart cities, creating new values to all stakeholders interacting in the living city ecosystems, thus serving as examples of good practice, while others are still developing and growing on their intentions to become smart. This paper provides a structured literature analysis and investigates key scope, services and technologies related to smart cities and digital transformation as concepts of empowering social and collaboration interactions, in order to identify leading factors in most smart city initiatives.
Abstract Background Innovating how organisations run their business is a strategic decision to create more value for customers using or consuming the product and/or service provided. In addition to ...the incentive of everybody embracing digital transformation, digital technologies, and digital innovation, which frame changes of operating business models today, disruptions, i.e., another incentive that occurs suddenly and impacts globally, all force businesses to adapt and change. Objectives This research aims to provide a conceptual model that can be used for organisations to evaluate and propose feasible options for responding to disruptions that influence the businesses’ strategic innovation initiatives while assisting decision-makers in choosing the most appropriate option. Methods/Approach Considering internal and external factors that influence digital transformation, the conceptual framework is designed to assess readiness and willingness to transform and create opportunities for future success digitally. Results A conceptual framework was developed, tested, and demonstrated in a case study. The case study organisation rated positively the composition of steps to be perf readiness and willingness and choose the most feasible option to change. Conclusions: The digital environment and the influence of disruptions force organisations to change. The conceptual framework developed in this research helps the management choose the most feasible change option about the real as-is and the desired to-be state.

Digital transformation (DT) is an emerging paradigm, which introduces strategy-oriented and customer-centric changes in infrastructure and processes in modern organizations relying on contemporary ...information and communication technologies (ICT). Transforming in DT is not a one-time process, it is a holistic approach of shifting organizations towards implementation of new methods for raising organizational performances by boosting the organizational capabilities and competitiveness, creating thereby new models of doing business. This paper provides an insight into digital transformation in the form of an overview for the purpose of defining digital transformation and identifies its drivers. A brief bibliographic analysis of available literature is presented. Key determinants of digital transformation are defined and an overview of the methodologies used to assess the digital maturity of enterprises is made. Contextual influence factors and examples of enablers of digital transformation were discussed and existing trends and technologies in this challenging and promising field are positioned.
The successful adoption of digital innovations in agricultural production systems is based on the proactive participation of all stakeholders and represents an important step in establishing ...resilient agri-food chains and creating sustainable value. The key tool for the creation of sustainable value is integrating the nine aspects of the business process (cooperation; inclusion; financing; diversification; communication; policies; knowledge with entrepreneurship; and production) by re-using of open governmental and public endeavours data as well as by the contractual sharing. The objectives of this research are to identify stakeholders in the Croatian agricultural system, and to explore their roles and their potential for data supply and needs for data uptake. Open access repositories were queried to identify stakeholders. Direct observation methods and semi-structured conservational qualitative interviews were used for stakeholder characterisation and data flow detection. Stakeholder importance with respect to current data supply was analysed. Underdeveloped data flow relationships in the agricultural data ecosystem in Croatia could be built in a spontaneous process following the data opening of the Research and Consumer group of stakeholders and promoting data sharing initiatives of the early adopters in the Supplier group. In that way, data opening would be the driver of the effective cooperation creation required for sustainable value creation but also the adoption of the best management practices, sustainable solutions and digital development.
Digital transformation and continuous scientific and technological progress allows for increased efficiency in agriculture, animal husbandry, as well as faster and safer food distribution. Monitoring ...digital maturity is important. It allows us to understand the current state and outcomes of digital transformation. It also facilitates the creation of future steps towards digital progress. This paper explores the notion of digital maturity of countries and the indices used for it with a focus on agriculture. The paper seeks to identify indices by which countries can view their digital maturity, with the aim of further creating adequate policies. Given the importance of the transformation process, the structure of the index was considered in order to determine connections with the main determinants of digital transformation, especially concerning agriculture.
Digital transformation implies changes in organizations through application of digital technologies to enhance existing or develop new processes. One of key features of digital technologies is the ...development of smart systems, whereby, when considering the manufacturing sector, traditional factories are transformed into smart factories. This article defines smart factories, explains main approaches to transform from traditional to smart and investigates the implementation of digital technologies in smart factory processes involved. The research aims to integrate and extend different approaches to transformation as well as to show how factories should use the digital enablers to benefit and improve their work.
Digital transformation, as a new trend of organizational development, changes the way work is being done from the technological and operational point of view. Educational institutions (EI) need to ...adapt to this new paradigm and other upcoming trends in order to give the new generations right knowledge and skills to cope with the new challenges that are coming with these trends as well as to make their own work easier, faster, more efficient and effective. Methodological frameworks should help guide organizations to digitally transform and they can be used with the aim of making the change right. In this paper we analyse two well- known digital transformation frameworks in order to frame the digital transformation process of EIs within them with the aim to guide them to achieve the goal of increasing their digital maturity.
