Mobbing is a systemic problem that affects all work sectors, including the healthcare sector. Healthcare professionals are a group that is exposed to a high level of stress and thus, to the risk of ...negative situations in the workplace. The prevalence of mobbing in nurses is high. Mobbed nurses more often suffer from stressful headaches, insomnia, anxiety and describe depressive symptoms.
The aim of this study is to determine the rate of mobbing in a selected sample of nurses and to describe how nurses perceive their state of health. To determine whether there is a statistically significant connection among the incidence of mobbing, perceived state of health, age of nurses and the length of their practice.
A descriptive, cross-sectional study was performed. The standardized tools Negative Acts Questionnaire-Revised and General Health Questionnaire-28 were used. The research group consisted of nurses working in the acute care departments of selected medical facilities.
A total number of 715 nurses from all the regions of the Czech Republic participated in the study. The rate of nurses’ experience with negative acts in the workplace is 79.3%. Mobbed nurses report health disorders more often, especially in the area of somatic symptoms, anxiety, and insomnia. A higher number of negative acts are reported by younger nurses with a shorter period of overall nursing practice.
The occurrence of mobbing in the selected sample of nurses in the Czech Republic was confirmed. Mobbed nurses perceive and report deteriorating of their health condition.
The aim of this study was to determine the occurrence of mobbing and its health impacts on nurses in the selected hospital.
The pilot study was performed from August to September 2020. The group ...consisted of 84 nurses (return was 56.0%), working in the acute care department in a selected medical facility. NAQ-R (
) and GHQ-28 (
) tools were used.
In total 10.50% of nurses experienced mobbing. Mobbing was targeted at the work-oriented and nurse-related areas. The most common descriptive phenomenon of mobbing is the assignment of tasks below the level of competencies. Nurses describing the occurrence of mobbing in the workplace more often reported feelings of constant tension, nervousness and pressure.
The occurrence of mobbing in the workplace can affect the health and cause mental and social problems of nurses.
Aim: The objective of the study was to describe and analyze up-to-date knowledge of the mobbing experienced by general nurses, and factors related to it. Design: Scoping review. Methods: Only ...full-text primary research papers published in English between 1990–2019 were included in the scoping review. Freely accessible and licensed databases (CINAHL, EBSCOhost, Web of Science, Scopus, ProQuest, and Wiley online Library) were used to retrieve information. Results: The scoping review indicated that mobbing is a frequently researched phenomenon, in particular over the previous ten years. General nurses are a group acutely at risk of mobbing. Mobbed nurses show serious physical and mental health disorders. Higher levels of anxiety and depression were reported. As a result of mobbing, labor productivity decreases, sickness rates increase, and nurses’ personal lives are disrupted. Conclusion: Mobbing is a society-wide negative phenomenon that influences individuals’ working and personal lives, has a negative impact on individuals’ health, and concurrently has a negative impact on the operations of the organizations occurs. Prevention would appear to be the most effective means of counteracting mobbing.
The article focuses on the identification of the main preventive strategies employed in countering respiratory diseases with the risk of pandemic transmission (influenza and COVID-19). The research ...aimed to create a literature review focusing on preventive measures and strategies to minimize the occurrence and spread of respiratory diseases among employees in private businesses. These findings are intended to be employed to develop a preventive economic model for organizations in the Czech Republic against the spread of respiratory diseases. Data were obtained by systematically selecting studies from scientific databases (EBSCO host, Ovid, Scopus, Web of Science) and studying the hygienic recommendations of regional and government experts relevant to the objectives of this study. Based on a set of PICO questions and using a three-stage search, the authors analyzed a total of 1102 relevant scientific articles, and, subsequently, 15 relevant recommendations issued by the main experts of the Ministry of Health and other bodies of the Czech Republic between March 2020 and February 2022. The published studies point to a wide range of recommended preventive strategies against the occurrence and spread of respiratory diseases. The authors have proposed an organizational model that may strengthen preventive care in selected fields.
To find out the level of theoretical knowledge of nurses working in the internal medicine and surgical wards about hygienic hand disinfection and to evaluate its application during work performance.
...A questionnaire was conducted, supplemented by observations with records in the observation sheets. The group of respondents consisted of 60 nurses working in the internal medicine and surgical wards.
The theoretical knowledge of a selected sample of nurses reaches an average level. The observations have proved that nurses do not put emphasis on hygienic hand disinfection during everyday activities and the level of quality of hygienic hand disinfection is low.
Hygienic hand disinfection is one of the important indicators of the quality of the health care provided. It is necessary to increase the level of the theoretical knowledge of healthcare professionals and, at the same time, to enable healthcare professionals to practise hygienic hand disinfection and to provide efficient feedback.

Aim: To identify and describe the experience of a selected sample of nurses with aggressive behaviour by patients and their family members. To describe what nurses rate as the most common causes of ...aggression and what strategies nurses most commonly use to manage it. To determine whether there is a statistically significant association between the incidence of aggressive behaviour and length of practice in the selected sample of nurses. Methods: This study included a group of nurses from a selected healthcare facility, totalling 67 nurses. A self-constructed questionnaire was used. The data were processed in STATISTICA 12 software using descriptive statistics and Spearman's correlation coefficient. This study complied with the EQUATOR (STROBE) checklist. Results: More than 70% of the nurses in our study had experienced aggressive behaviour by a patient. Nurses are most often exposed to verbal aggression, especially swearing and insults. Less frequently, they encounter physical assault. Most often, it is the patients who are aggressive; patients’ families or visitors are rarely aggressive. To manage aggressive behaviour, nurses most often use calm, assertive communication. In the selected sample of nurses, there was no significant association between the incidence of aggressive behaviour and length of nursing experience. Conclusions: Our results show that most of the nurses in the selected sample have negative experiences with aggressive behaviour. Knowledge of assertive communication can significantly contribute to minimising conflicts associated with aggressive behaviours in patients. The research conducted may serve as a basis for further research.
HIV protease (PR) is a prime target for rational anti-HIV drug design. We have previously identified icosahedral metallacarboranes as a novel class of nonpeptidic protease inhibitors. Now we show ...that substituted metallacarboranes are potent and specific competitive inhibitors of drug-resistant HIV PRs prepared either by site-directed mutagenesis or cloned from HIV-positive patients. Molecular modeling explains the inhibition profile of metallacarboranes by their unconventional binding mode.
