The vibrating wire monitors are used for measuring transverse pro-files of radiation beams of different nature. For increasing the accuracy of scanning, and in some cases escaping the scanning ...procedure (measurement of the beam profile using a matrix of wires), it is proposed to use several vibrating wires. A monitor of this kind with two vibrating wires spaced apart at some distance formed the measuring unit of the laboratory stand, developed by us for training students in accelerator technology. The features of such a two-wire monitor and, in particular, the problem of laser radiation power redistribution between the wires are discussed.

A field study of sections of loose deposits in the western part of the Lake Sevan basin (Armenia) is conducted to investigate geoecological and paleogeographic features of existence and development ...of high-mountain lakes. The typical lithological patterns of significant lake transgressions are revealed and stratigraphic layers with numerous remnants of human activity, as well as the traces of ancient earthquakes, such as horizons of seismogenic convolutions in lacustrine deposits (seismites), are found. To determine the absolute age of the stratigraphic units, four radiocarbon dates of the samples from the section near the village of Norashen are used. They estimate the age of limnologic deposits in the interval of 2020 ± 120–6270 ± 110 yr BP for a 4.5-m-thick section. Using these data, the average sedimentation rate in the studied region equal to 0.34 mm/yr is calculated. It is established that there were two significant lake transgressions: in the Middle and Late Holocene. During the field study, special attention was paid to the section of lacustrine deposits near the village of Norashen because it had layers with significant traces of human activity: ceramics and bone remnants. The results of archeological investigations and radiocarbon dates of the samples from the Norashen section have shown that humans settled in this region twice: in the 3rd and the middle of the 2nd millenium BC. The analysis of the materials of studying the seismogenic convolutions in the lacustrine deposits and archaeological data has given us an idea about the possible connection of the transgression regime and a 500-year pause in human settlement of the study region with a strong earthquake that occurred approximately 4400 years ago in the Lake Sevan basin. These data can be used for determining the long-term trend of oscillations for the high-mountain lake in the Holocene and for revealing its causes, as well as for a more precise assessment of the seismic hazard in the western part of the Lake Sevan basin.
A female skeleton from the Lori Berd archaeological cemetery, located near the city of Stepanavan (Lori Province of Armenia) is described. Palaeopathological analysis revealed a variety pathology ...(ankylosis of the sacroiliac joints, ankylosis of the vertebrae, syndesmophytes, ankylosed of the costovertebral and costotransverse joint fusions, kyphosis, lordosis, fracture of the anterior inferior iliac spine and traumatic lesions). This paper reports a new case of ankylosing spondylitis in a skeleton and a differential diagnosis performed to determine the etiology of the condition. The vertebral bodies remodel and together with the associated syndesmophytes form a continuous, smooth bone surface that is sometimes referred to as “bamboo spine”. In this skeleton changes in the spine, ribs, the sacrum, acetabulum, head of the femur and greater trochanter, as well as the anterior inferior iliac spine are typical of ankylosing spondylitis in advanced stage. Addtionally, there were signs of a traumatic death with injuries sustained to the scapula and vertebra. Using osteological markers in combination with the reconstruction of the archaeological context, the burial pattern suggests that the pathology the female suffered was likely due to her physical deficiencies.

KASCADE has been designed to measure air showers of primary cosmic-ray energies in the PeV region and to investigate the
knee phenomenon in the all-particle energy spectrum. Several observations are ...measured simultaneously for each event by different detector systems. The experiment started to take data in 1996 and has been completed and extended since then. The individual detector systems and their performances are described. Also, the experience in long-term operation of the experiment and the interplay between different components is outlined.
To assess the effectiveness of conservative treatment of Crohn's disease (CD) with perianal lesions.
The study included 20 patients with CD with perianal fistulae. Prior to the start of conservative ...therapy, 7 patients underwent fistulae drainage with setton placement. During the study, all patients received therapy with certolizumab pegol (CP) for a year. At the time of treatment initiation and after 12 months, the CD activity index, the quality of life according to IBDQ questionnaires and the perianal Crohn's disease activity index (PCDAI) were assessed.
After a year of CP therapy, clinical remission was achieved in 8 (40%) patients, endoscopic remission in 7 (35%) patients, fistula closure in 6 (30%) patients. There was also a decrease in the PCDAI with the average score 3.6 points compared to 9.3 points (p˂0.05) prior to the treatment. An improvement in the quality of life of patients was also established, the average quality of life index was 182,2 points compared to 156,0 points (p˂0.05) prior to the treatment.
This study showed that CP therapy is effective in treatment of CD with perianal lesions.
A new method is proposed to determine the subpicosecond laser pulse chirp in the middle IR range at the central wavelength of 10 μm, based on the generation of the second-harmonic pulses both by the ...bandwidth-limited and frequency-modulated subpicosecond pulses and the subsequent noncollinear generation of the fourth-harmonic radiation by the corresponding second-harmonic pulses. The time dependences are given of the instantaneous frequency of the frequency-modulated second-harmonic pulse at the central wavelength of 5 μm, generated in the field of the frequency-modulated subpicosecond IR pulse, propagating in the negative uniaxial AgGaS

crystal along the direction of 61°36′ relative to the optical axis. These results can be used in designing a nonlinear optical phase correlator to determine the phase and time profile of the subpicosecond laser pulse in the middle IR range.
Background. Epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) is a conserved mechanism in the process of morphogenesis and organogenesis. EMT provides cells with migratory and invasive properties, which is a ...necessary condition for the formation of endometrioid heterotopias. Aim. To confirm the presence of EMT features in different types of endometriosis. Materials and methods. During a period of five years (2012–2017) we analyzed 43 cases of extragenital endometriosis: appendix (3 case), colon (5 cases), ileum (1 case), abdominal scar endometriosis after caesarean section (24 cases), and inguinal hernia (10 cases). The material was processed according to histological and immunohistochemical technique using monoclonal E-cadherin and polyclonal Vimentin antibodies to assess local invasiveness. Results. In peritoneal endometriosis, the ratio of E-cadherin to Vimentin expression was 10.3, in the colon = 9.1, in the appendix 8.6, in the ileum 5.5, in the hernial sac 4.2. Thus, in diffuse infiltrative forms of endometriosis, the lesion phenotype is characterized by low expression of E-cadherin, while expression of Vimentin is at a high level (p0.05). Conclusion. The results of our study confirmed involvement of the epithelial-mesenchymal transition process in the pathogenesis of extragenital endometriosis lesions, on the one hand, and they certify its invasive potential in these localizations, on the other hand.
The results of theoretical research and numerical simulation of the difference frequency radiation (DFR) pulse generation in 5–25 μm wavelength range in the field of the pumping femtosecond laser ...pulse are presented. The pulse has the following characteristics: the central wavelength is 2 μm, duration is 34 fs and electric field amplitude is 70.71 MV/m. The pulse propagates in the ZnTe/air periodic structure with the number of periods along the normal to the (110) plane of the ZnTe crystal equal to 13; and the efficiency of the DFR generation is 1.11 × 10
–4
. It is shown that the use of the liquid crystal phase transparent, placed in the focal plane of the frequencyspatial shaping system, allows one to realize the DFR pulse compression at which the maximum intensity is increased by a factor of six.
