Syftet med detta arbete är att ta reda på om specialpedagoger/speciallärare ser något samband mellan specialpedagogik och språklig mångfald. Vi vill även ta reda på om de använder sig av språklig mångfald i sin undervisning. I vår teoridel tar vi upp några forskares perspektiv på lärande, läroplanen för grundskola och särskola, specialpedagogikens historia och vad specialpedagogik och språklig mångfald är. För att belysa vikten av olika inlärningsstrategier utgår vi från Gardners teori om att människan har åtta eventuellt nio intelligenser. Därefter beskriver vi Bifrost – och Reggio Emilia pedagogiken som är två pedagogiska metoder som utgår från att sätta eleven i centrum. Vi avslutar med hur hjärnan fungerar vid inlärning för att få en förförståelse för att alla våra sinnen har en koppling till varandra. Undersökningen bygger på kvalitativa intervjuer med tolv specialpedagoger/ speciallärare som arbetar inom ett begränsat geografiskt område. Alla respondenterna arbetar/har arbetat med elever i ålder 0-12 år. Resultatet visar att respondenterna ser ett samband mellan specialpedagogik och språklig mångfald. Det visar även att respondenterna har svårt att se att de använder sig av språklig mångfald ute på fältet.
The monoamine metabolites homovanillic acid (HVA), 5-hydroxy-indoleacetic acid (5-HIAA) and 4-hydroxy-3-methoxy-phenylglycol (HMPG) were determined in lumbar cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) of 123 patients ...with Alzheimer's disease (AD) and 57 healthy controls. Despite CSF sampling under strictly standardized conditions, a wide variability in values among both patients and controls was found, as well as fluctuations in repeated samples from individual patients. This suggests that several unknown factors influence the lumbar CSF levels of monoamine metabolites. The AD group showed significantly lower mean levels of HVA (p less than 0.0001) and 5-HIAA (p less than 0.0001) than the control group. A relation between severity of disease and HVA was also found. The widespread neurotransmitter disturbance in AD, together with the nonspecificity of reduced lumbar HVA and 5-HIAA levels, suggests that the changes are nonspecific, secondary to the cerebral degeneration in AD.
IntroductionLibraries globally are exploring ways to deliver the myriad of quality information resources available to their users – via mobile devices. As well as focusing on documents (with the ...inherent problems associated with reading on small screens), Southern Cross University (SCU) Library has explored ways of accessing key documents and converting them to audio form, so that students and staff have an alternative way of engaging with academic literature.Learners today exist in an increasingly multimodal environment. Mobile devices provide them with extra levels of flexibility, offering them both auditory and visual input and allowing them to learn anytime, anywhere and while doing anything. As Eisenwine and Hadley (2011, 5) state, ‘the digital generation prefers parallel pro - cessing and multitasking as a way of digesting information. In addition, that generation prefers pictures, sounds and video over text.’Traditionally, academic libraries have provided access to predominantly text-based materials. With a highly mobile cohort, however, the problems inherent in viewing or reading on small screens, combined with the need to support different learning styles, have provided the impetus for exploring audio-based alternatives to the academic literature.As SCU Library staff worked towards the development of a mobile platform, they simultaneously explored the provision of text-based audio files within that platform and the University's learning management system.Read, listen and learnThe pedagogical value of providing audio-based resources, especially podcasts, has been well documented (Hew, 2009; Kervin et al., 2006; McGarr, 2009; Tempelhof, et al., 2009). Generally, such podcasts have been based on lecture materials or supplementary materials designed to support specific units. Other examples include the provision of conference or workshop presentations. Little has been written evaluating the use of audio forms of published and/or scholarly literature.Between 2008 and 2010, database vendors began providing audio files of selected academic literature. Factiva led the field with linked audio files for all its articles (of less than 4000 words). EbscoHost and Gale Cengage followed suit, providing audio files for full-text HTML documents, but not for PDF files. All three vendors provided an immediate ‘listen’ function and the facility to download an MP3 version. Ironically, despite being the provider of the first mobile database platform, EbscoHost disabled the ‘audio’ function for mobile devices. Ebook Library (EBL) provided a ‘read aloud’ facility within its e-book collection, but not downloadable MP3 files.
Patients with Alzheimer disease (AD, onset less than 65 years of age, n = 13) and senile dementia of the Alzheimer type (SDAT, onset greater than or equal to 65 years of age, n = 28) were ...investigated for cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) content of homovanillic acid (HVA), 5-hydroxyindoleacetic acid (5-HIAA) and 3-methoxy-4-hydroxy-phenylglycol (MHPG) and compared with a group of controls (n = 26). A geriatric rating scale, the Gottfries-Bråne-Steen scale, was used to assess impairment of motor performance, intellectual and emotional functioning, and symptoms common in dementia disorders. The HVA levels in CSF were significantly lower in the AD group than in the SDAT group and controls. MHPG was slightly but significantly increased in the SDAT group when compared with the controls. The HVA and 5-HIAA concentrations were correlated negatively with impairment of motor performance in the SDAT group; 5-HIAA correlated positively with impaired performance in the AD group; and 5-HIAA/HVA ratios were correlated positively with the performance variables. HVA correlated significantly and negatively with "impaired wakefulness" and "inability to increase tempo" in the SDAT group. 5-HIAA and the ratio 5-HIAA/HVA correlated significantly and positively with some items measuring intellectual and emotional impairment. In the AD group, "anxiety" and "fear-panic" correlated positively with 5-HIAA and "restlessness" with MHPG. The data indicate qualitative differences in the CSF monoamine pattern between AD and SDAT.
