No comparative studies have addressed the oxidant and antioxidant states of blood and cerebrospinal fluid. To reveal this differential state, the study was designed to identify the seizure type with ...the worse prognosis by determining erythrocyte arginase and erythrocyte catalase, plasma and cerebrospinal fluid malondialdehyde, and plasma and cerebrospinal fluid nitric oxide levels. Study groups were classified as febrile (group 1, n = 21), afebrile (group 2, n = 21), and control (group 3, n = 41, subdivided as 3a, febris positive, convulsion negative, and 3b, febris negative, convulsion negative). Levels of erythrocyte arginase, erythrocyte catalase, plasma malondialdehyde, cerebrospinal fluid malondialdehyde, plasma nitric oxide, and cerebrospinal fluid nitric oxide levels were determined for all groups. A difference was detected between the control and febrile seizure groups with respect to erythrocyte catalase and plasma and cerebrospinal fluid levels of nitric oxide ( P < 0.05). Both febrile states and convulsions influence oxidative mechanism. Oxidative stress-generating potential differs for febrile and afebrile seizures. In afebrile seizures, greater levels of oxidative stress might affect prognosis adversely. This phenomenon can be interpreted in terms of fever as a protective factor against possible neurological damage during convulsive seizures.
Objetivo: Mostrar por primera vez cómo afecta aflibercept a las lesiones de endometriosis. Material y métodos: Endometriosis inducida quirúrgicamente en ratas hembras albinas Wistar. Las ratas con ...endometriosis se dividieron aleatoriamente en tres grupos: control (Co), aflibercept (Af) y acetato de leuprolida (Le). Luego, Af, aflibercept y Le recibieron acetato de leuprolida. El grupo de control no fue tratado. Los pesos y cambios en las adherencias intraabdominales de las ratas antes y después del tratamiento se registraron de acuerdo con la puntuación de adherencia de Blauer. La sangre extraída para el sacrificio fue analizada. Las lesiones endometriósicas se evaluaron en tamaño, volumen, histología e inmunohistoquímica (factor de crecimiento endotelial vascular VEGF y CD31). El nivel de significación se aceptó como p < 0.05. Resultados: Aflibercept redujo significativamente el volumen del implante endometrial (p = 0.002). La puntuación histológica epitelial (EHS) del explante mostró una diferencia significativa entre aflibercept y acetato de leuprolida (p = 0.006) y entre los grupos de aflibercept y control (p = 0.002). Aflibercept disminuyó la expresión de VEGF-H y CD31 (p = 0.001) más que el acetato de leuprolida. Aflibercept mejoró las adherencias (p = 0.006). Conclusión: Aflibercept tiene más éxito que el acetato de leuprolide en el tratamiento de la endometriosis.

Evidence of immune response to COVID-19 vaccine in psoriasis patients on biological agents is lacking. This study aimed to evaluate SARS-CoV-2 antibody levels following vaccination with CoronaVac or Pfizer/BioNTech mRNA in patients using biological agents or methotrexate, high-titer antibody levels achievement rate, and impact of medications on immunogenicity.
This noninterventional, prospective cohort study included 89 patients and 40 controls vaccinated with two doses of inactivated (CoronaVac) or Pfizer/BioNTech mRNA vaccines. Anti-spike and neutralising antibodies were analysed before and three to six weeks after the second dose. Adverse effects and symptomatic COVID-19 were assessed.
Median anti-spike and neutralising antibody titers after CoronaVac were significantly lower in patients than controls (57.92 U/mL vs 125.4 U/mL, and 1/6 vs 1/32, respectively, p < 0.05). Patients were less likely to achieve high-titer anti-spike antibody levels (25.6 % vs 50 %). Infliximab was associated with attenuated vaccine response.
Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine induced comparable median anti-spike (2,080 U/mL vs 2,976.5 U/mL,) and neutralising antibody levels (1/96 vs 1/160) in patients and controls, respectively (p > 0.05). High-titer anti-spike and neutralising antibodies development rates were comparable among patients and controls (95.2 % vs 100 %, and 30.4 % vs 50.0 %, respectively, p > 0.05).
Nine (10.1 %) COVID-19 cases- all mild - were identified. Psoriasis flare was seen in 6.74 %, mostly after Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine.
Psoriasis patients treated with biological agents and methotrexate developed similar response to mRNA vaccine but weaker response to inactivated vaccine. Infliximab reduced response to the inactivated vaccine. Adverse effects were more frequent with mRNA vaccine, but none was severe.

On the other hand, significant increases were determined in GSH-Px activities in all experimental groups when compared with the control group.
Although the mechansim is not clear, the results from this experimental study suggest that the lycopene have a possible protective effect against cisplatin-induced spermiotoxicity, effect of giving lycopene after cisplatin being superior to the giving it before cisplatin.
This study was conducted to investigate the protective effects of lycopene against the toxic effects of Aflatoxin B1 (AFB1) exposure in kidney and heart of rat by evaluating antioxidant defense ...systems and lipid peroxidation (LPO). Forty-two healthy three-month-old male Wistar-Albino rats were used in this study. The animals were randomly divided into six experimental groups including 7 rats in each. These groups were arranged as follows: control group, lycopene (5 mg/kg/day, orally for 15 days) group, AFB1 (0.5 mg/kg/day, orally for 7 days) group, AFB1 (1.5 mg/kg/day, orally for 3 days) group, AFB1 (0.5 mg/kg/day, orally for 7 days) + lycopene (5 mg/kg/day, orally for 15 days) group and AFB1 (1.5 mg/kg/day, orally for 3 days) + lycopene (5 mg/kg/day, orally for 15 days) group. The animals were sacrificed at the end of applications. In this study, malondialdehyde (MDA) levels significantly increased; while reduced glutathione (GSH), glutathione-S-transferase (GST), catalase (CAT), glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px), superoxide dismutase (SOD) and glucose-6-phosphate-dehydrogenase (G6PD) activities decreased in kidney and heart tissues. The significant reduction in the activities of antioxidant enzymes and non-enzymatic antioxidant system in AF treated rats as compared to the control group could be responsible for increased MDA levels observed during AF induced kidney and heart damage. The results showed increased urea, creatinine levels, as well as reduction sodium concentrations in plasma of AFB1 treated rats. There was lycopene showed protection against AF induced nephrotoxicity and cardiotoxicity.
The aim of this study was to investigate the predictive value of inflammation parameters and indices measured in the first trimester for the detection of preeclampsia.
In this retrospective analysis, ...we examined the medical records of 276 eligible pregnancies at a tertiary referral center from 2022 to 2023. The cases were categorized into the Control group (n = 171), the Mild Preeclampsia group (n = 63), and the Severe Preeclampsia group (n = 42). We examined the demographic characteristics and perinatal outcomes of all participants. Additionally, we analyzed laboratory parameters, including neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR), platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio (PLR), monocyte-to-lymphocyte ratio (MLR), systemic immune inflammation index (SII) (neutrophil*platelet/lymphocyte), systemic inflammation response index (SIRI) (neutrophil*monocyte/lymphocyte), pan-immune inflammation value (PIV) (neutrophil*platelet*monocyte/lymphocyte), and the β-hCG to PAPP-A ratio in the first trimester. Receiver operating characteristic curve (ROC) analysis was conducted to identify the optimal cut-off levels for inflammatory markers in predicting preeclampsia.
SIRI and PIV exhibited statistical significance in differentiating between the preeclampsia and control groups for predicting preeclampsia. The determined cut-off value for SIRI was 1.5, providing a sensitivity of 56.2% and a specificity of 55.6% (p = 0.012). Likewise, the cut-off value for PIV was 394.4, with a sensitivity of 55.2% and a specificity of 55% (p = 0.013). NLR, PLR, MLR, SII, and β-hCG to PAPP-A ratio could not predict preeclampsia.
This study suggests that SIRI and PIV hold promise as potential tools for predicting the risk of preeclampsia during the first trimester.
•The study revealed that SIRI and PIV, measurements taken in the first trimester significantly predicted the occurrence of subsequent preeclampsia.•However, measurements of NLR, PLR, MLR, and SII in the first trimester did not demonstrate significant predictive ability for preeclampsia.•The β-hCG to PAPP-A ratio in the first trimester did not demonstrate significant predictive ability for preeclampsia.
The aim of this study was to investigate the possible protective role of lycopene on adriamycin (ADR)-induced heart and kidney toxicity using biochemical and histopathological approaches. Rats were ...randomly divided into four groups. The first group received no medication and was regarded as the control group; the second group was injected with a single dose of ADR; the third group was treated with lycopene for 10 days before ADR injection and the last group was treated with lycopene for 2 days before and for 3 days after the administration of a single dose of ADR. mg/kg) was intraperitoneally (i.p.) injected as a single dose and lycopene (4
mg/kg) was administered in corn oil by gavage.
The levels of malondialdehyde (MDA) and reduced glutathione (GSH) in both the heart and kidneys were higher in the group treated with ADR alone than in the control group, and were lower in the groups administered with lycopene than in the ADR alone group. Although the activity of catalase (CAT) in the heart was higher in the ADR alone group than in the control group, it was lower in the kidneys. In particular, treatment with lycopene post-injection normalized both cardiac and kidney CAT activities. In heart and kidney tissues, glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px) activities were not significantly different between all groups. Significant increases in the levels of plasma creatinine and urea were observed in the ADR group when compared to the control group, and these increases were normalized by lycopene treatment. Cardiac and renal histopathological changes were observed in the ADR group as compared to the control group. In contrast, these histopathological changes appeared nearly normal in the groups treated with lycopene pre- and post-injection.
In conclusion, this study clearly indicated that ADR treatment markedly impaired cardiac and renal function and that treatment with lycopene might prevent this toxicity in rats.

Disease progress may be affected by pregnancy-related changes, and underlying conditions may also affekt pregnancy outcomes in women with Gitelman syndrome (GS). Case presentation A 35-year-old woman ...with GS (gravida 2 para 1) was referred to our hospital to start routine antenatal care follow-up at 6 weeks of gestation. At the age of 31, she had been diagnosed with GS after her first uneventful pregnancy. Upon early admission, her serum Mg+level was 0.51 mmol/L and her serum K+level 2.7 mmol/L with normal kidney function tests. She was already taking oral combined potassium citrate and potassium bicarbonate supplementation once a day before pregnancy. At the eighth gestational week, the medication was changed to an oral potassium color sachet of 1.5 gram per day until labor because of the insufficient dosage to maintain optimum potassium levels. She was also taking 365 milligrams of oral magnesium oxide twice a day before and during pregnancy. In the third trimester of the pregnancy, her serum Mg+level was 0.48 mmol/L and serum K+level 2.8 mmol/L. Because of the previous uterine surgery history, she underwent an elective cesarean operation at 39 weeks' gestation under spinal anesthesia and delivered a healthy 3090-gram female infant.
Increased need for potassium and magnesium supplementation should be the critical considerations when managing pregnant patients with GS.
Aims: To evaluate the clinical characteristics that distinguish the leiomyoma variants from the ordinary ones, as well as the recurrence risk and patterns of these tumors. Methods: This ...retrospective, case-control study included women diagnosed with uterine leiomyoma between 2009 and 2019 at a tertiary referral center in Turkey. The clinical characteristics of patients diagnosed with cellular leiomyoma (CL), leiomyoma with bizarre nuclei (LBN), mitotically active leiomyoma (MAL), and ordinary leiomyoma (OL) were examined. Disease recurrence and patterns of variants were evaluated. Results: Among the 1,581 women with uterine leiomyoma, the incidence of CL, LBN, and MAL were 2.9%, 1.2%, and 1.3%, respectively. The occurrence for a single mass (63% in CL, 78.9% in LBN, 61.9% in MAL, 38.8% in OL; p=0.001) was more common, and the diagnosis of intramural leiomyoma (67.4% in CL, 73.7% in LBN, 71.4% in MAL, 90.8% in OL; p=0.002) was less frequent in the leiomyoma variant groups compared with the OL group. Recurrent leiomyosarcoma was observed in one woman with MAL. Conclusions: This study showed that single mass rate was higher and intramural leiomyoma rate was lower in leiomyoma variants than in ordinary variants. Although rare, leiomyoma variants carry a risk of malignant recurrence after hysterectomy, suggesting the need for long-term follow-up.
