The bioassay-guided fractionation of the CHCl
3 extract from pigeon pea leaves led to the isolation of a new natural coumarin, named as cajanuslactone (
1), together with two known phytoalexins, ...pinostrobin (
2) and cajaninstilbene acid (
3). The structure of
1 was elucidated by interpreting spectroscopic data of UV, IR, MS, 1D and 2D NMR. It was determined as 7-hydroxy-5-
O-methyl-8-(3-methyl-2-butylene)-4-phenyl-9,10-dihydro-benzopyran-2-one. The anti-bacterial activity against three Gram-positive microorganisms was evaluated
in vitro. It was found the new compound cajanuslactone possessed good anti-bacterial activity against
Staphylococcus aureus (ATCC 6538), and the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) and the minimum bactericidal concentration (MBC) were 0.031 and 0.125
mg/ml, respectively. The result indicated that the leaf part of pigeon pea is an excellent source of natural anti-bacterial materials. Moreover, cajanuslactone is a potential anti-bacterial agent against Gram-positive microorganisms.
Glioma is the most common tumor among central nervous system tumors; surgical intervention presents difficulties. This is especially the case for gliomas in so-called "eloquent areas," as surgical ...resection threatens vital structures adjacent to the tumor. Intraoperative magnetic resonance imaging (iMRI) combined with multimodal neuronavigation may prove beneficial during surgery. This study explored the applicability of 3.0 T high field iMRI combined with multimodal neuronavigation in the resection of gliomas in eloquent brain areas. We reviewed 40 patients with a glioma located in the eloquent brains areas who underwent treatment in the Neurosurgery Department of Peking University International Hospital between December 2015 and August 2017. The experimental group included 20 patients treated using iMRI assistance technology (iMRI group). The remaining 20 patients underwent treatment by conventional neuronavigation (non-iMRI group). Tumor resection degree, preoperative and postoperative ability of daily living scale (Barthel index), infection rate, and operative time were compared between the 2 groups. No difference in infection rate was observed between the 2 groups. However, compared with the non-iMRI group, the iMRI group had a higher resection rate (96.55 ± 4.03% vs 87.70 ± 10.98%, P = .002), postoperative Barthel index (90.75 ± 12.90 vs 9.25 ± 16.41, P = .018), as well as a longer operation time (355.85 ± 61.40 vs 302.45 ± 64.09, P = .011).The use of iMRI technology can achieve a relatively higher resection rate among cases of gliomas in eloquent brain areas, with less incidence of postoperative neurological deficits. Although the operative time using iMRI was longer than that taken to perform conventional navigation surgery, the surgical infection rate in these 2 procedures showed no significant difference.
The rapid delivery of software leads to the frequent execution of regression testing. The higher efficiency of regression testing is required for the quick fault-feedback in Continuous ...integration(CI).The goal of test case prioritization(TCP) approach is that the test cases with the higher fault detection rate are preferentially executed. Therefore, TCP approach meets the requirement of quick fault-feedback in CI.The fault prediction approach can predict the failed probability in the new version using the code feature and the historical failure information. The choice of the number of cluster and the feature subset are not considered in the traditional clustering TCP approaches. This paper proposes a test case prioritization method combining clustering approach and fault prediction, which fisrtly identifies the correlation between the test cases and the codes, then divides the test cases into the different clusters, lastly implements the inter-cluster and intra-cluster prioritization on the guidance of the fault
To compare the clinical efficacy of angulated screw channel abutments and prefabricated titanium abutments on the restoration of single implant crowns in esthetics region.
The study was a ...prospective, single center, randomized controlled trial. Patients with the need of restoration of single tooth in esthetics region were included from June 2018 to June 2019. Forty patients were randomly assigned into two groups: screw-retained crowns with angulated screw channel abutments(angulated group, AG) and cemented crowns with prefabricated Ti abutments (cemented group, CG). Clinical and radiological evaluations were performed on the day of final crowns delivery and 6 months later. Implant survival rate, marginal bone loss (MBL), mechanical complications, peri-implant conditions (Probing depth, PD; bleeding on probing, BOP%), pink esthetics score/white esthetics score(PES/WES) and patients' satisfaction were assessed. The data was analyzed with SPSS 19.0 software package.

IntroductionThe aim of our study is to explore the value of serum glycosylated hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) in disease severity and clinical outcomes of acute pancreatitis (AP).Research design and ...MethodsPatients with AP were included from January 2013 to December 2020, retrospectively, dividing into normal serum HbA1c level (N-HbA1c) group and high serum HbA1c level (H-HbA1c) group according to the criteria HbA1c <6.5%. We compared patient characteristics, biochemical parameters, disease severity, and clinical outcomes of patients with AP in two groups. Besides, we evaluated the efficacy of serum HbA1c to predict organ failure (OF) in AP patients by receiver operating curve (ROC).ResultsWe included 441 patients with AP, including 247 patients in N-HbA1c group and 194 patients in H-HbA1c group. Serum HbA1c level was positively correlated with Atlanta classification, systemic inflammatory response syndrome, local complication, and OF (all p<0.05). Ranson, BISAP (bedside index of severity in acute pancreatitis), and CT severity index scores in patients with H-HbA1c were markedly higher than those in patients with N-HbA1c (all p<0.01). ROC showed that the best critical point for predicting the development of OF in AP with serum HbA1c is 7.05% (area under the ROC curve=0.79). Logistic regression analysis showed H-HbA1c was the independent risk factor for the development of OF in AP. Interestingly, in patients with presence history of diabetes and HbA1c <6.5%, the severity of AP was significantly lower than that in H-HbA1c group. Besides, there was no significant difference between with and without history of diabetes in N-HbA1c group.ConclusionsGenerally known, diabetes is closely related to the development of AP, and strict control of blood glucose can improve the related complications. Thus, the level of glycemic control before the onset of AP (HbA1c as an indicator) is the key to poor prognosis of AP, rather than basic history of diabetes. Elevated serum HbA1c level can become the potential indicator for predicting the disease severity of AP.
Rose bengal‐grafted chitosan (RB‐CHI), synthesized through dehydration between amino and carboxyl functional groups under mild conditions, was coated onto the outer layer of preformed biodegradable ...microcapsules consisting of sodium alginate and chitosan. The fabricated photosensitive microcapsules were characterized by optical microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, and confocal laser scanning microscopy. The assembled materials maintained intact spherical morphology and thus showed good ability to form thin films. Electron spin resonance spectroscopy allowed direct observation of the generation of singlet oxygen (1O2) from photosensitive microcapsules under light excitation at about 545 nm. Furthermore, with increasing light radiation, the content of 1O2 increased, as detected by a chemical probe. In vitro cellular toxicity assays showed that RB‐CHI‐coated photosensitive microcapsules exhibit good biocompatibility in darkness and high cytotoxicity after irradiation, and could provide new photoresponsive drug‐delivery vehicles.
Seen in a rosy light: Rose bengal (RB)‐grafted biodegradable microcapsules, an effective vehicle for singlet‐oxygen generation and cancer‐cell incapacitation, were fabricated by a core‐mediated layer‐by‐layer technique, in which RB‐grafted chitosan (RB‐CHI) was coated onto the outer layer of preformed biodegradable microcapsules, consisting of sodium alginate (ALG) and CHI. RB‐CHI served as a photosensitive capsule coating (see picture).
Long non-coding RNA (LncRNA) PCA3 has been a well-established urine biomarker for the detection of prostate cancer (PCa). Our previous study showed a novel LncRNA FR0348383 is up-regulated in over ...70% of PCa compared with matched benign tissues. The aim of this study was to evaluate the diagnostic value of urinary FR0348383 for men undergoing prostate biopsy due to elevated PSA (PSA > 4.0 ng/ml) and/or abnormal digital rectal examination (DRE).
Post-DRE first-catch urine specimens prior to prostate biopsies were prospectively collected. After the whole transcriptome amplification, quantitative real time polymerase chain reaction was applied to quantify urine FR0348383 and PSA levels. The FR0348383 score was calculated as the ratio of PSA and FR0348383 mRNA (PSA mRNA/FR0348383 mRNA × 1000). The diagnostic value of FR0348383 score was evaluated by logistic regression and decision curve analysis.
213 cases with urine samples containing sufficient mRNA were included, 94 cases had serum PSA level 4.0-10.0 ng/ml. PCa was identified in 72 cases. An increasing FR0348383 score was correlated with an increasing probability of a positive biopsy (P < 0.001). Multivariable logistic analysis indicated FR0348383 score (P < 0.001), PSA (P = 0.004), age (P = 0.007), prostate volume (P < 0.001) were independent predictors of PCa. ROC analysis demonstrated FR0348383 score outperformed PSA, %free PSA, and PSA Density in the prediction of PCa in the subgroup of patients with grey area PSA (AUC: 0.815 vs. 0.562 vs. 0.599 vs. 0.645). When using a probability threshold of 30% in the grey zone cohort, The FR0348383 score would save 52.0% of avoidable biopsies without missing any high grade cancers.
FR0348383 transcript in post-DRE urine may be a novel biomarker for detection of PCa with great diagnostic value, especially in the grey zone cohort. The application of FR0348383 score in clinical practice might avoid unnecessary prostate biopsies and increase the specificity of PCa diagnosis.
The long non-coding RNA SNHG7 is upregulated in many types of cancer and plays a role as an oncogene. However, its overall predictive ability in human cancer prognosis has not been assessed using ...existing databases. Therefore, further study of its prognostic value and clinical significance in human malignancies is warranted.
We systematically collected relevant literature from multiple electronic document databases about the relationship between SNHG7 expression level and prognosis in patients with solid cancers. We further screenped them for eligibility. Pooled hazard ratios (HRs) with 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were used to assess the prognostic value. Odds ratios (ORs) and their 95% CIs were collected to evaluate the relationship between the expression of SNHG7 and clinicopathological features, including lymph node metastasis (LNM), tumour size, tumour node metastasis (TNM) stage and histological grade.
Fourteen original studies involving 971 patients were enrolled strictly following the inclusion and exclusion criteria. The meta-analysis showed that SNHG7 expression significantly correlated with poor overall survival (HR = 1.93, 95% CI: 1.64-2.26, p<0.001) in human cancer patients. In addition, the pooled OR indicated that overexpression of SNHG7 was associated with earlier LNM (OR = 1.83, 95% CI: 1.44-2.32; P <0.001), and advanced TNM stage (OR = 1.82, 95% CI: 1.44-2.30; P <0.001). Meanwhile, there was no significant heterogeneity between the selected studies, proving the reliability of the meta-analysis results.
High SNHG7 expression may predict poor oncological outcomes in patients with multiple human cancers, which could be a novel prognostic biomarker of unfulfilled clinicopathological features. However, further high-quality studies are needed to verify and strengthen the clinical value of SNHG7 in different types of cancer.
•Camshafts cracked after finishing final heat treatment induction-quenching.•Thermal stress and transformation stress developed on matrix surrounding inclusion.•Numerous extra-large ...calcium-aluminosilicate inclusions were found in crack origins.•The presence of extra-large inclusions was responsible for cracking of camshaft.
About one-hundred out of three-hundred camshafts were found to crack in varying degrees after finishing final heat treatment of induction-quenching. The cracked camshafts were made from one steel ingot of same furnace number. The failed camshafts are used in truck diesel engine with six cylinders. Stereomicroscope observation showed that several longitudinal and radial cracks were presented on the external surfaces of journals and cams and the side of journals of camshafts. Numerous extra-large elongated compound inclusions of calcium-aluminosilicate (CaO⋅Al2O3⋅SiO2) along the longitudinal of camshaft were found on the fracture surfaces. Fracture surfaces characteristically “woody” in appearance or lamellar and deep groove fracture topography were confirmed to be associated with inclusion distribution along the longitudinal direction of camshaft. Metallographic examination indicated that the camshaft material had a very low purity, especially in the surface region of camshafts, i.e. crack origin regions. The total index of oxide inclusion of the metallographic samples from the smoothed fracture surfaces was evaluated to be K4 = 181 according to DIN standard, much higher than the specified index, K4 ≤ 30. During induction-quenching process, a hoop tensile thermal stress and a hoop tensile transformation stress would develop on the matrix surrounding the compound inclusion of calcium-aluminosilicate due to the significant difference in the thermal expansion coefficients between them and the volume expansion of matrix in the surface region resulting from the transformation of austenite to martensite. When the superimposed stress of both stresses was greater than the tensile strength of matrix material in the surface region, the micro-cracks along the radial of compound inclusion would develop on the matrix surrounding the compound inclusion to lead to cracking of camshaft.
The utility of virtual and augmented reality based on functional neuronavigation and intraoperative magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) for glioma surgery has not been previously investigated.
The study ...population consisted of 79 glioma patients and 55 control subjects. Preoperatively, the lesion and related eloquent structures were visualized by diffusion tensor tractography and blood oxygen level–dependent functional MRI. Intraoperatively, microscope-based functional neuronavigation was used to integrate the reconstructed eloquent structure and the real head and brain, which enabled safe resection of the lesion. Intraoperative MRI was used to verify brain shift during the surgical process and provided quality control during surgery. The control group underwent surgery guided by anatomic neuronavigation.
Virtual and augmented reality protocols based on functional neuronavigation and intraoperative MRI provided useful information for performing tailored and optimized surgery. Complete resection was achieved in 55 of 79 (69.6%) glioma patients and 20 of 55 (36.4%) control subjects, with average resection rates of 95.2% ± 8.5% and 84.9% ± 15.7%, respectively. Both the complete resection rate and average extent of resection differed significantly between the 2 groups (P < 0.01). Postoperatively, the rate of preservation of neural functions (motor, visual field, and language) was lower in controls than in glioma patients at 2 weeks and 3 months (P < 0.01).
Combining virtual and augmented reality based on functional neuronavigation and intraoperative MRI can facilitate resection of gliomas involving eloquent areas.
