Especially in China, the penetration rate of internet use has become more prominent. Nevertheless, the role of internet use in the relationship between occupational status and depression remains unknown. The purpose of this study was to estimate how internet use moderates the relationship between occupational status and depression in a sample of older adults in China. Methods A cross-sectional design was used to assess the relationship between occupational status, internet use and depression. This study employed data from the Chinese General Social Survey (CGSS) conducted in 2017. The full sample size of this study is 2,403. OLS regression was adopted to explore the correlation between occupational status and depression and the moderating role of internet use. Meanwhile, a heterogeneity analysis based on residence registration was implemented to explore the difference between rural and urban sample groups. Results The findings suggested that higher occupational status was related to lower depression level. By playing an inhibitory moderating role between the association of occupational status and depression, internet use and occupational status formed a substituting effect. Meanwhile, the above moderating effect was only significant in urban group and insignificant in rural group. Besides, being male and having higher social class were significantly and negatively correlated with depression. Conclusion This study began with the theory of social stratification and social mobility, added the theory of social capital, constructed an analytical framework of regulatory effect, put forward two basic assumptions, selected measurement indicators taking into account Chinese cultural factors, and conducted empirical tests using authoritative statistical software and national representative data, providing a new theoretical contribution to our understanding of the impact of occupational status and depression in developing countries.
Perceived government corruption is an important indicator of depressive symptoms. Recent studies have explored the relationship between perceived government corruption and depressive symptoms in a ...cross-cultural context, but the underlying mechanisms need further research. This paper examines the impact of perceived government corruption on depressive symptoms in China and the moderating role of social status. Based on the 2018 wave of China Family Panel Studies (CFPS2018), 14,116 respondents aged between 16 and 96 were selected. The results revealed: (1) Perceived government corruption was significantly positively correlated with depressive symptoms. (2) Social class had an inhibitory effect in moderating the relationship between perceived government corruption and depressive symptoms. (3) The moderating effect was only significant for respondents who received education between junior high school and a bachelor's degree. The findings provide policy implications for developing countries and transitional societies like China. To build a more psychologically healthy society, we need to strengthen anti-corruption, stimulate social mobility, and improve people's sense of gain in the future.
Prognostic biomarkers remain a focus in breast cancer during last decades. More reliable predictors to adequately characterize the prognosis of breast cancer are essential. The 2'-5'-oligoadenylate ...synthetases (OAS), composing of OAS1, OAS2, OAS3, and OAS-like (OASL), are interferon (IFN)-induced antiviral enzymes, with their prognostic roles remain to be characterized.
Prognostic values of OAS family members were assessed by multiple public available resources.
High mRNA expression of OAS1 and OAS3 were correlated with worse prognosis for all breast cancer patients, whereas OAS2 was associated with favorable prognosis. The prognostic values of OAS family in different clinicopathologic subtypes were also characterized. In DNA methylation level, cg12560128 in OAS2, cg06800840 and cg26328872 in OASL showed significant prognostic values. The mRNA expression of OAS members signature in high/low risk overall survival groups was opposite to the high/low risk recurrence free survival groups. Neutrophil cell exhibited highest correlation with all OAS members in tumor immune infiltrating estimation.
This study provided new insight into the prognostic roles of OAS in breast cancer with potential mechanistic values.
Abstract Within the contemporary mental health discourse, the complex interplay of intimacy with parents, trust, and their collective impact on depression remains insufficiently explored, especially ...amid the merging of Western and Eastern sociocultural norms propelled by modernization, casting doubt on the foundational role of the family in individual psychological health. This study introduces a theoretical framework that merges attachment theory with modern societal shifts to clarify the intricate relationship between familial connections and individual mental health amidst changing social paradigms. Leveraging data from the 2018 and 2020 waves of the China Family Panel Studies, which included 3048 participants, this study utilizes ordered logistic regression to probe the subtle relationship between intimacy with parents and depression. Additionally, it employs Structural Equation Modeling to assess the mediating effects of five distinct dimensions of interpersonal trust, thus uncovering the complex linkages between intimacy with parents, trust, and depression. The results highlight the crucial role of intimacy with parents in mitigating depression, with trust in parents and neighbors identified as key mediators, while trust in strangers, local government officials, and physicians showed minimal mediating influence. These findings accentuate the critical importance of robust family and community bonds in addressing depression and call for a deeper understanding of trust’s role in both policymaking and clinical interventions. Despite the modern era’s trend towards individualism and greater mobility altering family structures and trust dynamics, the family remains an essential infrastructure and haven for individual intimacy, trust, and mental health, underscoring the subtle balance between modernity and tradition in societies undergoing transition.

The ideals of the anti-welfare tendency may confront the realization of deficient, dependent, and delicate bodies, adding to a sense of bodily betrayal, which encumbers independence and sets ...older adults toward despair. The resulting collision may lead older adults who have perceived the law of the jungle to go to two extremes: either fall into social depression, or enhance their positive attitude, and be spurred to cultivate a positive mentality. Therefore, this study focuses on assessing the potential interaction between the law of the jungle and the anti-welfare attitude in shaping mental health. Based on the Chinese General Social Survey (CGSS) data in 2017, this study adopts the multivariate regression method to comprehensively address the theory-of-pragmatic-prospection-based relationship between the law of the jungle, anti-welfare tendency, and mental health of older adults, including concurrently coherent conceptualization and examination of core psychological perception indicators of the law of the jungle, such as victim sensitivity. The findings suggest that the anti-welfare dependence attitude positively correlates with mental health (coefficient = 0.618,

< 0.001). Self-reliance has become part of the invisible armor that modern seniors equip themselves with against the risks of the law of the jungle. And precisely because the perception of the law of the jungle reinforces the fear that one’s own capacity is not sufficient to deal with emergencies, older adults are more likely to conform to the official discourse of productive aging and become more self-reliant. Although from the perspective of individual psychological mechanisms, the combination of the anti-welfare attitude and the law of the jungle has strengthened the mental health of older adults, there are still long-term hidden challenges: if the state is absent for a long time, when the external risk world is no longer within the control of the private welfare of older adults, will they be overwhelmed by pressures, enter a threshold, move to the other side of the resilience fracture, and fall into social depression? This study will leave it to future research to test these alternative explanations.
Radiotherapy (RT) is a cancer treatment that uses high doses of radiation to kill cancer cells and shrink tumors. Although great success has been achieved on radiotherapy, there is still an ...intractable challenge to enhance radiation damage to tumor tissue and reduce side effects to healthy tissue. Radiosensitizers are chemicals or pharmaceutical agents that can enhance the killing effect on tumor cells by accelerating DNA damage and producing free radicals indirectly. In most cases, radiosensitizers have less effect on normal tissues. In recent years, several strategies have been exploited to develop radiosensitizers that are highly effective and have low toxicity. In this review, we first summarized the applications of radiosensitizers including small molecules, macromolecules, and nanomaterials, especially those that have been used in clinical trials. Second, the development states of radiosensitizers and the possible mechanisms to improve radiosensitizers sensibility are reviewed. Third, the challenges and prospects for clinical translation of radiosensitizers in oncotherapy are presented.
Natural biomacromolecules have attracted increased attention as carriers in biomedicine in recent years because of their inherent biochemical and biophysical properties including renewability, ...nontoxicity, biocompatibility, biodegradability, long blood circulation time and targeting ability. Recent advances in our understanding of the biological functions of natural-origin biomacromolecules and the progress in the study of biological drug carriers indicate that such carriers may have advantages over synthetic material-based carriers in terms of half-life, stability, safety and ease of manufacture. In this review, we give a brief introduction to the biochemical properties of the widely used biomacromolecule-based carriers such as albumin, lipoproteins and polysaccharides. Then examples from the clinic and in recent laboratory development are summarized. Finally the current challenges and future prospects of present biological carriers are discussed.
Immunotherapy has gained increasing focus in treating pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC), since conventional therapies like chemotherapy could not provide satisfactory improvement in overall ...survival outcome of PDAC patients. However, it is still not the game changing solution due to the unique tumor microenvironment and low cancer immunogenicity of PDAC. Thus, inducing more intratumoral effector immune cells as well as reversing immunosuppression is the core of PDAC treatment. Herein, we demonstrate an exosome-based dual delivery biosystem for enhancing PDAC immunotherapy as well as reversing tumor immunosuppression of M2-like tumor associated macrophages (M2-TAMs) upon disruption of galectin-9/dectin 1 axis. The deliver system is constructed from bone marrow mesenchymal stem cell (BM-MSC) exosomes, electroporation-loaded galectin-9 siRNA, and surficially modified with oxaliplatin (OXA) prodrug as an immunogenic cell death (ICD)-trigger. The use of biomaterials, BM-MSC exosomes, can significantly improve tumor targeting efficacy, thus increasing drug accumulation in the tumor site. The combined therapy (iEXO-OXA) elicits anti-tumor immunity through tumor-suppressive macrophage polarization, cytotoxic T lymphocytes recruitment and Tregs downregulation, and achieves significant therapeutic efficacy in cancer treatment.

Group (IV) metal oxo clusters are a diverse class of compounds with rapidly growing applications in catalysis, materials chemistry, electronics and optics. They possess unique structural stability, reactivity and electronic properties; however, their potential remains underexplored due to the gaps in fundamental understanding about their structure, intrinsic features, and nuances in their synthesis that overall would allow for great tunability of their properties. In this context, here we review the chemistry of discrete zirconium, hafnium, and titanium metal oxo clusters reported in the literature in order to provide a critical overview of the structural features, properties and reactivity disclosed to date. While a comprehensive summary of Zr and Hf clusters is presented, only the most recent Ti oxo clusters are discussed in addition to some key compounds that have been revised elsewhere. Envisioning the growing relevance group (IV) metal oxo clusters for the synthesis of nanostructure materials and in catalysis, we also summarize key principles of their surface chemistry, and the photoactivity of Ti oxo clusters, given the paramount importance of these properties for the development of future applications.
This study aimed to establish nomogram models of overall survival (OS) and cancer-specific survival (CSS) in elderly colorectal cancer (ECRC) patients (Age ≥ 70).
The clinical variables of patients ...confirmed as ECRC between 2004 and 2016 were retrieved from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) database. Univariate and multivariate analysis were performed, followed by the construction of nomograms in OS and CSS.
A total of 44,761 cases were finally included in this study. Both C-index and calibration plots indicated noticeable performance of newly established nomograms. Moreover, nomograms also showed higher outcomes of decision curve analysis (DCA) and the area under the curve (AUC) compared to American Joint Committee on Cancer (AJCC) tumor-node-metastasis (TNM) stage and SEER stage.
This study established nomograms of elderly colorectal cancer patients with distinct clinical values compared to AJCC TNM and SEER stages regarding both OS and CSS.
