In this article, I show how the Hmong religion can provide the basis of a novel version of non-human-centered environmentalism. I do this by outlining some of the core doctrines in the Hmong religion ...and showing what they imply about the value of nature. I then situate the view that is implied by these doctrines into the traditional Western environmental ethics literature on the value of nature. In particular, I argue that the Hmong religion provides a view in environmental ethics that is non-anthropocentric, individualistic, non-egalitarian, and non-biocentric.
Abstract In the era of advancing technology and continuous societal evolution, an abundance of voluminous data from various domains has become prevalent in the public domain. Managing this wealth of ...data necessitates a series of preprocessing procedures, encompassing tasks such as data storage, computation, and analysis, with the aim of unveiling intrinsic features and patterns contained within. Among these procedures, clustering stands out as a crucial step, with the primary goal of unveiling the hidden structures within the data and organizing data samples into meaningful clusters based on specific criteria. Early clustering efforts were based on a singleview. Real world data, however, often contains interrelated information, leading to the emergence of multi-view clustering. Multiview subspace clustering (T-SVD) has been widely used in recent years. However, the equal treatment of each singular value in this approach lacks relevance when the data is noisy or contaminated. In order to improve the robustness and clustering performance, this paper presents a T-SVD weighted tensor norm. In order to improve the robustness, a Schatten-P norm was proposed. This paper explores multi-view subspace clustering is based on the Schatten-P norm weighted tensor. Experiments are carried out on 6 benchmark data sets, and the results are compared with 4 existing ones. Experiments show that the proposed approach is better than the most advanced multi-view subspace clustering methods.
Myoblasts play an important role in muscle growth and repair, but the high glucose environment severely affects their function. The purpose of this study is to explore the potential molecular ...mechanism of liraglutide in alleviating the effects of high glucose environments on myoblasts.
MTT, western blot, and ELISA methods were used to investigate the role of liraglutide on C2C12 myoblasts induced by high glucose. The high-throughput transcriptome sequencing technique was used to sequence C2C12 myoblasts from different treated groups. The DESeq2 package was used to identify differentially expressed-mRNAs (DE-mRNAs). Then, functional annotations and alternative splicing (AS) were performed. The Cytoscape-CytoHubba plug-in was used to identify multicentric DE-mRNAs.
The MTT assay results showed that liraglutide can alleviate the decrease of myoblasts viability caused by high glucose. Western blot and ELISA tests showed that liraglutide can promote the expression of AMPKα and inhibit the expression of MAFbx, MuRF1 and 3-MH in myoblasts. A total of 15 multicentric DE-mRNAs were identified based on the Cytoscape-CytoHubba plug-in. Among them, Top2a had A3SS type AS. Functional annotation identifies multiple signaling pathways such as metabolic pathways, cytokine-cytokine receptor interaction, cAMP signaling pathway and cell cycle.
Liraglutide can alleviate the decrease of cell viability and degradation of muscle protein caused by high glucose, and improves cell metabolism and mitochondrial activity. The molecular mechanism of liraglutide to alleviate the effect of high glucose on myoblasts is complex. This study provides a theoretical basis for the clinical effectiveness of liraglutide in the treatment of skeletal muscle lesions in diabetes.
In cancer progression, hypoxia, or low oxygen tension, is a major regulator of tumor aggressiveness and metastasis. However, how cancer cells adapt to the hypoxia and communicate with other ...mesenchymal cells in microenvironment during tumor development remains to be elucidated. Here, we investigated the involvement of exosomes in modulating angiogenesis and enhancing metastasis in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC).
Differential centrifugation, transmission electron microscopy and nanoparticle tracking analysis were used to isolate and characterize exosomes. Colony formation and transwell assay were performed to assess the proliferation, migration and invasion of human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs). The tube formation assay and matrigel plug assay were used to evaluate the vascular formation ability of HUVECs in vitro and in vivo respectively. An in vivo nude mice model was established to detect the regulatory role of exosomes in ESCC progression. Microarray analysis was performed to analyze the transcriptome profiles in HUVECs.
Exosomes derived from ESCC cells cultured under hypoxia played a better role in promoting proliferation, migration, invasion and tube formation of HUVECs in vitro and in vivo than exosomes from ESCC cells cultured under normoxia. Moreover, hypoxic exosomes significantly enhanced the tumor growth and lung metastasis compared with normoxic exosomes in nude mice models. Interestingly, endothelial cells were programmed by hypoxic and normoxic exosomes from ESCC cells which altered the transcriptome profile of HUVECs.
Taken together, our data identified an angiogenic role of exosomes from ESCC cells which shed light on the further application of exosomes as valuable therapeutic target for ESCC.

Abstract To study the effects of attenuated Salmonella typhimurium L forms on the in vivo tumorigenicity and apoptosis of murine epithelial ovarian cancer cells, as well as the related mechanisms. ...Attenuated Salmonella typhimurium VNP20009 was induced into bacterial L forms by using antibiotic ceftriaxone. CCK-8 cell proliferation assay showed that attenuated S. typhimurium L forms can inhibit the proliferation of murine ovarian epithelial cancer ID8 cells. Attenuated ST L forms can induce apoptosis and inhibit invasion ability of epithelial ovarian cancer cells in vitro. TUNEL assay showed that attenuated ST L forms can induce apoptosis of ID8 cells in murine ovarian tumors. Meanwhile, attenuated ST L forms inhibit tumor growth in murine ovarian tumors. The tumorigenicity-related proteins of xenograft tumors detected by immunohistochemistry and fluorescence quantitative RT-PCR assays showed that attenuated ST L forms can reduce the expression of proteins that promote tumor growth and metastasis, such as Lgals9 and MMP9. This study confirmed that attenuated ST L forms can suppress tumor growth and promote apoptosis in murine ovarian tumors. Attenuated ST L forms may serve as a novel biological agent for bacterial-mediated tumor therapy in epithelial ovarian cancer.
The emergence of electric vehicles (EVs) has become a better alternative to withstand enormous damage to the environment and human life due to the widespread use of conventional cars. As a vital ...element in EVs, this paper analysed and compared the key features of different DC-DC topologies from different areas, then, explored strategies to improve DC-DC converter performance. The purpose of all these studies and designs is to help researchers in the automotive industry to choose the right DC-DC converter topology for their needs to achieve the required power density. By continuously improving the design and evaluation of DC-DC converters, it can improve the performance and efficiency of electric vehicles, and further promote the use of sustainable energy. This will help reduce reliance on traditional fuels, lower carbon emissions, improve air quality and move the entire transportation industry towards a greener, more sustainable future.
With the continuous evolution of novel network attacks, traditional Intrusion Detection Systems (IDSs) have commonly employed Deep Neural Networks (DNNs) for intrusion detection. However, the ...effectiveness of a DNN in this respect is closely related to the quality of the training data set, and large-scale network traffic data are difficult to label accurately. Therefore, some challenges still need to be addressed to detect network attacks. In this paper, we introduce a Time-Space Separable Attention Network(TSSAN) for intrusion detection. TSSAN utilizes depthwise separable convolution and a time-space self-attention mechanism to effectively extract temporal and spatial features. By extracting the common features from the unlabelled data, TSSAN significantly enhanced the detection performance for rare attack types. Experimental evaluations were conducted usingUNSW-NB15 and CICIDS-2017 datasets. Meticulous experiments for evaluating the individual components of the model were rigorously carried out using the CICIDS-2017 dataset. In the unsupervised learning experiment, our method achieved 0.86 and 0.92 f1score in the two datasets. In semi-supervised learning, the experiment showed that our method performed significantly better than the traditional deep learning method when the labelled data were gradually reduced.
Although sugar-sweetened beverage consumption has become an important and widespread concern, there are few studies on the association between sugar-sweetened beverage consumption frequency and ...muscle strength in Chinese adolescents. The objective of this study was to analyze the association between sugar-sweetened beverage consumption frequency and muscle strength in Chinese adolescents.
A stratified whole-group sampling method was used to survey 25,893 adolescents aged 13-15 years old in China for sugar-sweetened beverage consumption frequency and muscle strength for grip strength and standing long jump. The subjects' basic information, body mass index (BMI), and covariates were investigated. The association between sugar-sweetened beverage consumption frequency and muscle strength was analyzed by multivariate logisitc regression analysis.
The proportions of Chinese adolescents who consumed sugar-sweetened beverage ≥ 3 times/week, 1-2 times/week, and < 1 time/week were 12.23%, 52.79%, and 34.98%, respectively. The differences in sugar-sweetened beverage consumption frequency were statistically significant when compared across gender, parental education, duration of physical activity, snacks, and mode of commuting to school (χ
values = 228.570, 51.422, 275.552, 3165.656, 10.988, P < 0.01). Logistic regression analysis showed that overall Chinese adolescents with sugary drinks 1-2 times/week (OR = 1.207, 95% CI:1.132-1.287) and sugary drinks ≥ 3 times/week (OR = 1.771, 95% CI:1.611-1.947) were associated with lower muscle strength compared to sugary drinks < 1 time/week showed a positive association (P < 0.01). The same trend was found for boys and girls.
Chinese adolescents' sugar-sweetened beverage consumption is common, and high-frequency sugar-sweetened beverage consumption is associated with lower muscle strength. In the future, we should control the use of sugar-sweetened beverages and increase muscular strength training in Chinese adolescents to promote healthy growth.
Carbon-Kevlar hybrid reinforcement is increasingly used in the domains that have both strength and anti-impact requirements. However, the research on the preforming behaviors of hybrid reinforcement ...is very limited. This paper aims to investigate the mechanical and preforming behaviors of carbon-Kevlar hybrid reinforcement. The results show that carbon-Kevlar hybrid woven reinforcement presents a unique “double-peak” tensile behavior, which is significantly different from that of single fiber type reinforcement, and the in-plane shear deformation demonstrates its large in-plane shear deformability. Both the tensile and in-plane shear behaviors present insensitivity to loading rate. In the preforming process, yarn slippage and out-of-plane yarn buckling are the two primary types of defects. Locations of these defects are closely related to the punch shape and the initial yarn direction. These defects cannot be alleviated or removed by just increasing the blank holder pressure. In the multi-layer preforming, the compaction between the plies and the friction between yarns simultaneously affect the quality of final preforms. The defect location of multi-layer preforms is the same as that of single-layer, while its defect range is much wider. The results found in this paper could provide useful guidance for the engineering application and preforming modeling of hybrid woven reinforcement.
