Real-time monitoring and intelligent early warning system are crucial and significant to take mitigation measures and reduce casualties and property losses related to landslides. It is difficult to ...obtain entire monitoring data in the accelerated deformation phase in a landslide event, and hard to issue early warning information using a traditional monitoring approach with fixed and low sampling frequency. Displacement increments of loess landslides induced by agriculture irrigation on the Heifangtai terrace could be sudden and extremely rapid. Typical landslide types include loess flowslides and loess falls. It is of practical significance to develop a self-adaptive data acquisition monitoring technique and establish a real-time landslide early warning system (LEWS) to meet the needs for risk mitigation of rapid sliding slopes on the Heifangtai terrace. The monitoring technique can wirelessly transmit displacement data and the LEWS was devised using the new artificial intelligence. The LEWS could automatically release the warning information in advance of the event once the early warning parameters exceed default thresholds. In this study, the early warning procedures, real-time monitoring approach, intelligent LEWS, a multiple criteria warning model, warning release and emergency mitigation measures, and performance are introduced in detail. Six loess landslides at Heifangtai and eight landslides in other regions of China have been successfully warned since its implementation in 2012. This study proposed an effective and practical solution for the early warning of loess landslides at Heifangtai. Two typical loess landslides that had successful early warnings at Heifangtai were presented. The successful implementation could serve as a reference for global rapid slope failure cases, considering the complex nature of landslide behaviors and failure mechanisms.

Intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG) treatment is commonly used to treat Stevens-Johnson syndrome (SJS) and toxic epidermal necrolysis (TEN) with controversial therapeutic effect.
We conducted a ...comprehensive meta-analysis through combining the published eligible studies to evaluate the effectiveness of IVIG on SJS and TEN treatment.
A total of 26 studies were selected from public available databases. The combination of IVIG and corticosteroid markedly reduced the recovery time (by 1.63 days, 95% CI: 0.83-2.43, P < 0.001), compared with solo corticosteroid group. The favorable effects were greater in Asian (2.19, 95% CI: 1.41-2.97, P < 0.001), TEN (2.56, 95% CI: 0.35-4.77, P = 0.023) and high-dose IVIG treated individuals (1.78, 95% CI: 0.42-3.14, P = 0.010). The hospitalization length reduced by 3.19 days (95% CI: 0.08-6.30, P = 0.045), though the outcome was proven to be unstable. We found heterogeneities, which sources were probably regional factors. Besides, IVIG was inclined to decrease SJS/TEN mortality (SMR: 0.84, 95% CI: 0.66-1.08, P = 0.178). This impact was possibly more profound when patients were treated with high dose IVIG (SMR: 0.74, 95% CI: 0.50-1.08, P = 0.116), or when patients were diagnosed as TEN (SMR: 0.68, 95% CI: 0.45-1.01, P = 0.058).
Our current meta-analysis suggests that IVIG combined with corticosteroid could reduce recovery time for SJS and TEN. This effect is greater among Asian patients. Whereas, its impact on reducing mortality is not significant.
A 34‐year‐old Chinese woman found a lump in her left leg for more than 3 weeks without any discomfort. Grossly, the tumor was relatively well delineated with focal infiltration. Histopathologic ...evaluation showed a compact fascicular spindle cell proliferation with variable myxoid and collagenous stroma and scattered inflammatory infiltrate. Immunohistochemically, the tumor cells showed positive expression of ALKD5F3 and SMA and negative expression of CD34, desmin, and cytokeretin. Fluorescence in situ hybridization analysis of the ALK locus showed break‐apart signals in 20% of tumor cells, and DNA sequencing discovered a novel CLIP2‐ALK fusion gene. The lesion was diagnosed as an inflammatory myofibroblastic tumor (IMT). To the best of our knowledge, this is the first case with CLIP2‐ALK gene fusion in the somatic soft tissue IMTs.
We conducted a meta-analysis to evaluate the association between fat intake and the risk of three major types of skin cancer including basal cell carcinoma (BCC), squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) and ...cutaneous malignant melanoma (CMM). A comprehensive search of PubMed and EMBASE was performed to identify all relevant observational studies published up to December 1, 2018. Specific odds ratio (OR) or relative risk (RR) estimates for the highest versus the lowest intake of dietary fat and 95% confidence intervals (CI) from the included studies were pooled using random effect model. Three prospective cohort studies (175,675 participants and 30,915 BCC cases, 4,106 SCC cases and 1,638 CMM cases) and nine case-control studies (328 BCC cases, 493 SCC cases, 1,547 CMM cases and 2,660 controls) were identified. The pooled results indicated that dietary consumption of total fat and saturated fat were not associated with three major types of skin cancer. High consumption of monounsaturated fat was significantly associated with a decreased risk of BCC (RR: 0.90, 95% CI: 0.85-0.96) and high level of polyunsaturated fat intake was potentially positively associated with SCC (RR: 1.19, 95% CI: 1.06-1.33). Our findings should be confirmed by further evidence from well-designed and large-scale prospective cohort studies.
Broadened antibacterial activity was introduced to rhodanine derivatives targeting Mycobacterial tuberculosis enoyl-acyl carrier protein reductase (Mtb InhA) by recruiting feature of xacins to bring ...DNA Gyrase B inhibitory capability. This is significant for preventing further bacterial injections in the tuberculosis treatment. The most potent compound Cy14 suggested comparable bioactivity (IC50 = 3.18 µM for Mtb InhA; IC50 = 10 nM for DNA Gyrase B) with positive controls. Structure–activity relationship discussion and molecular docking model revealed the significance of rhodanine moiety and derived methoxyl on meta-position, pointing out orientations for future modification.
Results from the third nationwide cluster sampling survey on the epidemiology of schistosomiasis in the People's Republic of China, conducted by the Ministry of Health in 2004, are presented. A ...stratified cluster random sampling technique was used, and 239 villages were selected in 7 provinces where Schistosoma japonicum remains endemic. A total of 250,987 residents 6-65 years of age were included in the survey. Estimated prevalence rates in the provinces of Hunan, Hubei, Jiangxi, Anhui, Yunnan, Sichuan, and Jiangsu were 4.2%, 3.8%, 3.1%, 2.2%, 1.7%, 0.9%, and 0.3%, respectively. The highest prevalence rates were in the lake and marshland region (3.8%) and the lowest rates were in the plain region with waterway networks (0.06%). Extrapolation to all residents in schistosome-endemic areas indicated 726,112 infections. This indicates a reduction of 16.1% compared with a nationwide survey conducted in 1995. However, human infection rates increased by 3.9% in settings where transmission is ongoing.
Isobutyryl-CoA dehydrogenase deficiency (IBDD) is a rare autosomal recessive metabolic disorder resulting from variants in ACAD8, and is poorly understood, as only dozens of cases have been reported ...previously. Based on a newborn screening program, we evaluated the incidence, phenotype and genotype of IBDD as well as the prognosis. Moreover, we reviewed the variant spectrum in ACAD8 associated with IBDD. Forty unrelated patients with IBDD were retrospectively screened for newborns between Jan 2012 and Dec 2020. Tandem mass spectrometry (MS/MS) was used to determine the concentrations of C4-acylcarnitine, C4/C2 (acetylcarnitine), and C4/C3 (propionylcarnitine). All suspected cases were genetically tested by metabolic genes panel. The incidence of IBDD here was 1: 62,599. All patients presented continuously elevated C4-acylcarnitine levels with higher ratios of C4/C2 and C4/C3. Isobutyrylglycine occurred in only 8 patients. During follow-up, four patients had a transient motor delay, and two patients had growth delay. Notably, one case harbored both ACAD8 compound heterozygous variants and a KMT2A de novo variant (c.2739del, p.E914Rfs*35), with IBDD and Wiedemann-Steiner syndrome together, had exact severe global developmental delay. All patients were regularly monitored once they were diagnosed, and each patient gradually had a normal diet after 6 months of age. After 3-108 months of follow-up, most individuals were healthy except the case harboring the KMT2A variant. A total of 16 novel variants in ACAD8, c.4_5delCT, c.109C > T, c.110-2A > T, c.236G > A, c.259G > A, c.381-14G > A, c.413delA, c.473A > G, c.500delG, c.758 T > G, c.842-1G > A, c.911A > T, c.989G > A, c.1150G > C, c.1157A > G and c.1165C > T, were identified. Along with a literature review on 51 ACAD8 variants in 81 IBDD patients, we found that the most common variant was c.286G > A (27.2%), which has been observed solely in the Chinese population to date, followed by c.1000C > T (8.6%), c.1176G > T (3.7%) and c.455 T > C (3.1%). The concentration of C4-acylcarnitine in NBS plus subsequent genetic testing is necessary for IBDD diagnosis. Both the genotypes and ACAD8 variants in IBDD are highly heterogeneous, and no significant correlations between genotype and phenotype are present here in patients with IBDD. Our IBDD cohort with detaied clinical characteristics, genotypes and long-term prognosis will be helpful for the diagnosis and management of patients with IBDD in the future.
We have previously shown that excessive activation of macrophage proinflammatory activity plays a key role in TCE-induced immune liver injury, but the mechanism of polarization is unclear. Recent ...studies have shown that TLR9 activation plays an important regulatory role in macrophage polarization. In the present study, we demonstrated that elevated levels of oxidative stress in hepatocytes mediate the release of mtDNA into the bloodstream, leading to the activation of TLR9 in macrophages to regulate macrophage polarization. In vivo experiments revealed that pretreatment with SS-31, a mitochondria-targeting antioxidant peptide, reduced the level of oxidative stress in hepatocytes, leading to a decrease in mtDNA release. Importantly, SS-31 pretreatment inhibited TLR9 activation in macrophages, suggesting that hepatocyte mtDNA may activate TLR9 in macrophages. Further studies revealed that pharmacological inhibition of TLR9 by ODN2088 partially blocked macrophage activation, suggesting that the level of macrophage activation is dependent on TLR9 activation. In vitro experiments involving the extraction of mtDNA from TCE-sensitized mice treated with RAW264.7 cells further confirmed that hepatocyte mtDNA can activate TLR9 in mouse peritoneal macrophages, leading to macrophage polarization. In summary, our study comprehensively confirmed that TLR9 activation in macrophages is dependent on mtDNA released by elevated levels of oxidative stress in hepatocytes and that TLR9 activation in macrophages plays a key role in regulating macrophage polarization. These findings reveal the mechanism of macrophage activation in TCE-induced immune liver injury and provide new perspectives and therapeutic targets for the treatment of OMDT-induced immune liver injury.

Two hybrid organic–inorganic metal halides with room-temperature phosphorescence (RTP) have been designed and synthesized. The aromatic organic ligands in the hybrid structures give rise to the ...phosphorescent property, while the rigid inorganic frameworks in the hybrid structures enhance the RTP efficiency. Pb2(PLA)(H2O)2Br2 (PLA, 1,4-phenylenediacetic acid) shows the anti-Kasha’s rule RTP, which has been rarely reported before. The twisted intramolecular charge transfer (TICT) in a flexible PLA ligand might be the origination of the anti-Kasha’s rule RTP according to the photoluminescence study under the variables of temperature, excitation wavelength, and ligands. A method that combined the calculations from Platon and CrystalExplorer has been built to analyze the packing mode and interaction of the ligands. The compact face-to-face packing of aromatic ligands leads to the highest RTP efficiency in Pb4(TPA)3Br2. Due to the strong covalent bonding, Pb4(TPA)3Br2 exhibits superior thermal stability and water resistance, which can serve as an efficient LED underwater.
