At the artificial reef submerged on the sandbank off S. Croce (Italy, 45~'42'02'' N, 13~'37'24'' E), the following was studied at the site on a monthly basis from March 1999 to October 2000: the ...chemical-physical parameters of the water column, the ichthyoplanktonic and mesozooplanktonic community, the fish community and the structure of the species population. During the summer, the ichthyoplanktonic community was made up mainly of sparids, serranids and blennies, while in the winter it was made up mainly by Pleuronectiformes. The mesozooplanktonic community was composed principally of copepods - except in the summer, when cladocerans were prevalent. According to the fishing catch data, more species were sampled at the artificial reef than at the control site.
This study investigates the biology of Esox lucius in an irrigation ditch, Storta Roggia (Torviscosa, Udine), in the lower plain of Friuli-Venezia Giulia (north-eastern Italy). About twenty fish were ...captured monthly from May 1996 to May 1997. Variables such as age (as determined from reading scales) and stomach contents were recorded from these fishes. Additionally, the gonads were excised and fixed to assess the reproductive stage. These fishes were from eight age-classes (0-7 years). Age classes 6 and 7 were chiefly females. Their diet was chiefly fish and benthic macroin-vertebrates. Their reproductive period was from the second half of March to May. Several female specimens collected within the second half of April and May were in a spent-spawning condition or with degenerative oocytes. Some male pike from age-class 1 attained maturity, while females did not attain sexual maturity until age-class 2 or later.
We briefly describe the morphology of the Bay of Muggia and the modifications on the benthic and planktonic community which are caused by the intense human activities on the banks. We report the data ...about water circulation and some chemical and physical parameters, surveyed at representative stations.
ITALIANO: Viene brevemente descritta la morfologia della Baia di Muggia e le modificazioni indotte dall'intensa antropizzazione e industrializzazione delle rive sulla comunita bentonica e planctonica. Sono riportati dati sulla circolazione delle acque e su alcuni parametri chimici e fisici rilevati in stazioni rappresentative.
The area, the period and the intensity of the spawning of anchovy (Engraulis encrasicholus L.) in the Adriatic sea are investigated. Five maps of distribution of anchovy eggs are presented.
