New research reveals that Very-Low-Calorie-Diets (VLCD's) such as Lighter Life, are no more effective than a sensible Low-Calorie-Diet that allow you to eat between 850 and 1,000 calories a day. In ...fact, VLCD's have dangerous side effects which include: fainting, dizziness, nausea, headaches and insomnia. New research compares the long-term effects of three different diets with daily calorie intakes of 420 kcal, 530 kcal (VLCD) and 880 kcal (LCD) respectively, on 93 middle-aged obese patients. At the end of a twelve month period, there was no significant difference in weight-loss between the three groups. However, the researchers noted that the LCD group exhibited fewer side-effects than both the VLCD groups.

One of the first things that David Ashton, the HSE's new director of field operations, did when he was announced in the post at the end of last year was send a memo to all Field Operations ...Directorate staff reminding them of the power and influence they have, and urging them to use them. With a new HSE strategy on the horizon, Ashton is making it clear from the start that, this time, there will be no room for misinterpretation of the message and that justice remains firmly on the agenda. Ashton knows he -- or the HSE -- is never going to please all of the people all of the time but as long as his staff are out there inspecting, investigating, and using the range of tools and techniques at their disposal to prevent harm and breaches of the law, then he is satisfied that the role of regulator is being fulfilled as it should be.
Recent research by the Centre for Labour Market Studies at the University of Leicester, into the effectiveness of the training systems in 10 of our competitor nations, revealed serious deficiencies ...in the UK.
