The article examines the issue of the Balkan Migration Corridor, which has been operating on a permanent basis for many years, despite the efforts of the Balkan Peninsula and the European Union. The ...aim of the article is to analyze the migration processes in the Balkans and its impact on the EU and European countries. The author offered basic terms related to the topic of migration along with definitions. reviewed the literature on this issue and noted the main research of Western scholars related to the topic of the article. The intensity of migration processes in the above-mentioned region is determined by the economic and political situation in migrant donor countries, including Afghanistan, Pakistan, Syria, etc. The article lists the countries that show the greatest and least commitment to migrants. The attitude of EU member states turned out to be more positive towards migrants than the attitude of the Balkan countries.
The text presents the results of the research on the Byzantine provincial organization in the parts of the Balkans that the Empire directly controlled during the Komnenian era. The non-uniform ...historical and political evolution of some regions of the Balkan Peninsula called for different methods to be employed by the Constantinopolitan court when organizing the local provincial administration, leading to a differentiation among the Balkan themes. Another factor that contributed to the differentiation process was that not all provinces were of equal importance to the Empire, which is why strategically important districts and their local elites received certain privileges, mostly of a fiscal and financial nature. The role and significance of some themes grew over time, while others gradually lost their strategic relevance. That was reflected in Constantinople?s changing approach to organizing the provincial administration in the Balkans. This contribution focuses on when, how, and why some Balkan districts received privileges or had them rescinded in the Komnenian era.
. Annual harvest hunting data and counting statistics from 2009 to 2019 were used as methods for assessing changes in four Artiodactyla species population trends. The study area covers approximately ...100,000 ha territory from Sredna Gora Mts. The results showed trend for a stable increase in the Red Deer population, because of provided conservation measures. The Fallow Deer could be considered an occasional species. An increase in Roe Deer number was observed, with steeper rising between 2014 and 2018, followed by a strong decline in 2019. The Wild Boar number was changing significantly over the years, reflected in peaks and falls of number shot individuals for the study period. Tracking and comparing the hunting bag statistics data for ungulates in the study area for a longer period would give a clearer picture on their population trends and would help in selecting conservation measures.
Altogether 12 species from six Diptera families are presented in this paper. The species Lipoptena fortisetosa Maa, 1965 and Euthera fascipennis (Loew, 1854) are new records to Bulgaria.
Serbia preserves a high number of local grape varieties, which have been cultivated across the country for centuries. Now, these ancient varieties are in the spotlight, and there is a global trend ...towards their recovery and characterization because they can revitalize regional, national and international grape and wine sectors. In addition, their genetic study can be useful to find new pedigree relationships to reveal how local varietal assortment evolved over time. Here, the genetic characterization of 138 grapevines from old Serbian vineyards revealed 59 different genetic profiles, 49 of which were identified as grapevine varieties whose origin in the country could be linked to some major Serbian historical periods. Most of the genetic profiles found in this work arranged in a complex pedigree network that integrates numerous grapevine varieties from diverse Balkan countries, agreeing with an intense exchange of plant material among Balkan regions for centuries. This analysis identified some varieties as important founders of Balkan genetic resources, like ‘Alba Imputotato’, ‘Braghina Rosie’, ‘Coarna Alba’, and ‘Vulpea’. After deepening into their genealogy, these major direct founders might have ultimately derived from ‘Visparola’, an ancient variety of likely Balkan origin with a major founding role in some European regions. Our results also indicated the genetic singularity of the grapevine resources from the Balkans when compared to those from other relevant winemaking regions, supporting the interest of their detailed study to evaluate their oenological potential and for the eventual identification of useful traits to counteract current viticulture challenges.

Can the Balkans ever become a peaceful penisula like that of Scandinavia? With enlightened backing, can it ever make common cause with the rest of Europe rather than being an arena of periodic ...conflicts, political misrule, and economic misery?
In the last years of the twentieth century, Western states watched with alarm as a wave of conflicts swept over much of the Balkans. Ethno-nationalist disputes, often stoked by unprincipled leaders, plunged Yugoslavia into bloody warfare. Romania, Bulgaria and Albania struggled to find stability as they reeled from the collapse of the communist social system and even Greece became embroiled in the Yugoslav tragedy.
This new book examines the politics and international relations of the Balkans during a decade of mounting external involvement in its affairs. Tom Gallagher asks what evidence there is that key lessons have been learned and applied as trans-Atlantic engagement with Balkan problems enters its second decade. This book identifies new problems: organized crime, demographic crises of different kinds, and the collapse of a strong employment base. This is an excellent contribution to our understanding of the area.
The article is centred around an event in Njeguši, a small village in Montenegro, whereby a group of people tried to honour their ancestor by inauguration of a small church and a commemorative ...building. Unexpectedly, the event was forbidden, the police showed up as if to prevent violence. I interpret this event through reference to various phantoms that one could have encountered in this process and argue that people in Njeguši, just as well as elsewhere, perform the state through reference to and interaction with such phantoms. They make conscious decisions about alliances with particular forms of phantoms. I argue that when it comes to state, phantoms are not simply imaginative discrepancies from reality, but form actual content of the state, they are part of the process through which the state is performed.
