This paper analyses a number of “About me” sections of Danish food blogs to the purpose of investigating how bloggers discursively construct online identities. The blogs belong to a hybrid genre, ...containing both commercial products (recipes) and the personal narratives of bloggers on their everyday lives. Because of the highly subjective character of the narratives, the appraisal framework from systemic functional linguistics was chosen as an analytical tool to uncover patterns in evaluative language. Through the selection of content and the way it is discursively presented, bloggers seek to create a bond with an imagined audience, with whom they form a so-called ambient affiliation. Two such bonds are identified: a positive-thinking bond and a feeling-of-safety bond.
Traditionally, the term ‘jump cut’ has described film or video edits that jump forward in time and detract from a sense of continuity. In the early days of online video platforms, such as YouTube, ...video bloggers employed jump cuts while editing their direct-address monologues to allow them to string together the best parts of the performance. It could even be said now that jump cutting a monologue is one of the inherent conventions of vlogging. This paper argues that vlogging culture has not only adopted the jump cut as core to its productions, but also adapted and evolved it for specific vlog use. The vlogging space is rich in moving image innovation and instances of this, such as the vlogging jump cut, need to be identified, analysed, and discussed — just as occurred for cinema and television during their past periods of emergence.

Street style blogging has experienced a meteoric rise in popularity over the last decade. Amateur photographers, often with no formal training in fashion, have become critical arbiters of taste and ...trends, influencing the representations that appear in magazines and on runways, and putting new cities on the fashion world map. This cutting-edge book documents the evolution of street style photography, from the fieldwork photos of early anthropology to the glamorized snapshots that appear on blogs today, and explores the structural shifts in the global fashion industry that street style has helped bring about. Chronicling author and anthropologist Brent Luvaas’ experience over three years of blogging through vivid street imagery and rich ethnographic detail, this book turns the lens of street style photography back onto anthropology itself, arguing that the phenomenon is a powerful mode of amateur ethnography. Bloggers blur the distinction between professional and amateur, insider and outsider, self and brand. This book documents that blur from the ground level–from the streets of Philadelphia to the sidewalks of New York Fashion Week. Street Style is an essential read for students and scholars of fashion, anthropology, sociology, media and cultural studies, and fans of street style photography alike.
A Blog is a hypertext genre with a large span of pattern in structural, pragmatic, cognitive and stylistic terms. This is due to its short history and large changes in Internet communication. The ...author of the blog must publish articles regularly for a long time to make money thanks to the blog. It introduces many modifications to the quality standard in order to match its activities. The most pronounced changes relate to the structure of the genre and include the addition of advertisements, sponsored articles, activation links and separate cards on the website (e.g. training, workshops, camps and shop). There is a strong influence of advertisers or principals who indirectly participate in the process of creating the text and assume the role of the message controller. Author's message is more likely than other blogs to be persuasive to promote their own activities and products. Presenting positive feedback on the products offered is one of the assumptions of the cognitive aspect of blogging. The second assumption is to build such an image of the author, which influences gaining confidence and acquiring as many visitors as possible to the blog. The style of blogging is very varied thematically and individually, and its main purpose is to realize pragmatic and cognitive assumptions. Przekaz autorski częściej niż na innych blogach przyjmuje charakter perswazyjny, by promować własną działalność i lokowane produkty.
