The narrative work of Cuban Calvert Casey (1924–1969) receives a decided influence from the literary and metaphysical world of the great Franz Kafka. This article shows some of the Kafkaesque ...constants that populate Casey’s stories. Mónica Ojeda (Guayaquil, 1988) is an Ecuadorian writer whose literature is linked to the horror in its multiple forms. Furthermore, Las Voladoras (2020), included Ojeda in a new literary genre called ...Andean Gothic, a category where horror and Latin American myths convey. This paper analyzes how Ojeda adapts the disposition of the narrative elements to the Andean folklore. Moreover, it studies Ojeda’s reconstruction of the female monster by introducing the figure of a woman and its double, a hybrid between witch and animal, in order to create an alter ego effect. This article addresses how this narrative maneuver links Ojeda to Franz Kafka (1883–1924) and his vision of the monster in society.
Este artigo busca apontar e interpretar as impressões da cidade moderna, em seu momento de emergência entre o final do século XIX e o início do século XX, dos escritores Franz Kafka e Machado de ...Assis. No caso de Kafka aborda-se aqui uma viagem turística a Paris realizada em 1910 e no de Machado o seu conto "Capítulo dos Chapéus", publicado em 1884. Demonstra-se como, em ambos os casos, os escritores estabelecem uma relação entre a experiência metropolitana e o surgimento de doenças no corpo e na alma.
En la narrativa de Ezequiel Martínez Estrada (1895-1964) encontramos la recurrencia de algún síntoma que se convierte en el elemento central sobre el que se edifica el efecto fantástico, marcado por ...una insistencia que tiende a la exageración y el absurdo. Nos detendremos en “Juan Florido, padre e hijo, minervistas” para observar personajes sometidos a una cefalea incontrolable, al tiempo que los sucesos se van enrareciendo a partir de una atmósfera desconcertante. El autor diseña un final inesperado, trabajado desde la ironía, el grotesco, la sinestesia y la hipérbole que alimentan una mirada crítica respecto del contexto social y político.
The objective of the present work is to analyse the critique of law present in the conference held by Walter Benjamin for a radio station in Frankfurt in 1931, entitled “Franz Kafka: The great wall ...of China”. This brief conference presents specificities if compared to his most known text on Kafka, written three years later when the Czech writer's death completed ten years. Based mainly on the main characters of The Castle and The Process, Benjamin discusses what would be a subject “without rights”; or a situation marked by what he called an “absence of law”. These phenomena do not lead Benjamin to propose a dichotomy that opposes the absence of law and the demand for its application and effectiveness. The relationship between law and absence of law is analysed in this conference as a result of a historical process, which appears in Kafka in literary form.
O objetivo do presente trabalho é analisar a crítica ao direito presente na conferência feita por Walter Benjamin sobre Kafka para uma rádio de Frankfurt em 1931, intitulada “Franz Kafka: Durante a construção da muralha da China”. Essa curta conferência apresenta especificidades, no que tange à análise do direito e de outros temas, em relação ao seu texto mais conhecido sobre Kafka, escrito 3 anos depois por ocasião do décimo aniversário da morte do escritor tcheco. Nessa conferência é discutida, partindo sobretudo dos personagens principais de O castelo e O processo, a expressão do que seria um sujeito “sem direitos” ou um quadro marcado pelo que chama de uma “ausência de lei”. Entretanto, ao contrário de algumas interpretações, essas constatações não o levam a um raciocínio dicotômico que opõe a ausência de lei a uma situação que supostamente geraria a demanda por sua aplicação e efetividade. A relação entre lei e ausência de lei é analisada nessa comunicação como resultado de um processo histórico, que aparece em Kafka sob a forma literária.
El objetivo del presente trabajo es analizar la crítica al derecho presente en la conferencia realizada por Walter Benjamin sobre Kafka para una emisora de radio en Frankfurt en 1931, titulada “Franz Kafka: La construcción de la muralla china”. Esta breve conferencia presenta especificidades, en cuanto al análisis del derecho y otros temas, en relación con su texto más conocido sobre Kafka, escrito 3 años después a propósito del décimo aniversario de la muerte del escritor checo. En esta conferencia, basada principalmente en los personajes principales de El Castillo y El Proceso, se discute la expresión de lo que sería un sujeto “sin derechos” o una situación marcada por lo que Benjamin llama de una “ausencia de la ley”. Sin embargo, contrariamente a algunas interpretaciones, estos fenómenos no conducen a un pensamiento dicotómico que oponga la ausencia de ley a una situación que supuestamente generaría la demanda para su aplicación y efectividad. La relación entre ley y ausencia de ley se analiza en esta conferencia como resultado de un proceso histórico, que aparece en Kafka en forma literaria.
The presence of Franz Kafka’s influence in various Latin American narrative writers is well known and studied. Less known is the influence Kafka had on the Chilean (anti)poet Nicanor Parra. Some of ...the most prominent critics of Parra’s work mention it, but it has not been studied in depth. This present article tries to shine light on the antiheroism, dark humor and the anxiety of mortality which are common for both Parra and Kafka.
This article analyses three stories from the book De fronteras by Salvadoran writer Claudia Hernández: Mediodía de fronteras, Carretera sin buey and Lázaro, el buitre, in the light of Kafka’s animal ...narratives in which conventional human perspectives on animals and animality are subverted, thus configuring a gaze of their own. A gaze that in Hernández’s stories, through the narrator’s voice, allows us to imagine a symbiosis between the animal and the human.
This article reflects about the importance of Cheque writer Franz Kafka in the literary world of the Cuban novelist Alejo Carpentier. Kafka is an author cited and referred to frequently by Carpentier ...in his literary work (fiction and essay). Nevertheless, he it is not a traditional influence, but a model that boosted a slow transformation of Carpentiers “real marvelous” including the establishment of the marvelous as an atemporal cultural concept.
