This study will examine the different formulae used in the Fourth Gospel to see if they are the key indicator to whether a character being described has adequate or inadequate belief in Jesus. First, ...the Greek verb for believe in connection to prepositions will be examined. The two main categories are believing in Jesus and believing the correct content about Jesus. Verb tenses and moods in connection to the Greek verb for believe will also be studied. All of this examination concludes that the most important factor is the portrayal of the character in the narrative context. It is not the nuance of the Greek that is most important, but how characters are actually portrayed by the author of the Fourth Gospel. Johannine belief will be defined and two examples of application to characters in the Fourth Gospel will be given.
The socio-economic and political meltdown in Zimbabwe that began in the year 2000 caused significant changes in how people related to religion. Zimbabwe has endured one of the world's most puzzling ...economic catastrophes, characterised by extreme unpredictability and instability. Since the year 2000, Zimbabwe's socio-economic landscape has changed dramatically following the introduction of radical economic policies such as land redistribution and indigenisation. Since then, the economic fortunes of Zimbabwe have nosedived, with economic convulsions and unpredictability becoming the norm. This peculiar period of the country’s history has also seen far-reaching changes in the religious sector as prosperity gospel has risen to become probably the most influential religious force in the country. This paper documents how, in the face of socio-economic challenges, Zimbabweans have sought solace in charismatic churches championing prosperity. It argues that the uncertainties triggered by collapsing social and economic fabric have led to the rise of a charismatic prosperity gospel movement in Zimbabwe. Its growth has been aided by a 'spiritual healing' infrastructure that supports believers in various ways.
Two late eighth-century Latin gospel books have recently been identified as witnesses to the pre-Vulgate text of the Gospel according to John. In this article, their text of Mark is analysed and ...shown also to contain significant Old Latin material notwithstanding their general affiliation to the Vulgate. VL 11A (Würzburg, Universitätsbibliothek M.p.th.f. 67) has an unaltered Old Latin portion between Mark 10:30 and 11:5 and earlier readings throughout the manuscript. There are a number of unique or poorly-attested variants, including de publico in 7:4 and cum omni sollicitudine in Mark 14:44 which may give some clues about the origin of the text. VL 9A (St Petersburg, National Library of Russia F.v.I.8) has a mixed text with a significant proportion of Old Latin readings in Mark 10-14. Some of these are only paralleled by VL 1 (Codex Bobiensis) and represent a very early Latin version. In certain introductions to direct speech, this is the only Latin witness which corresponds to the earliest Greek form of text. It is also suggested that the Durham Gospels (or a closely related manuscript) may have been used to adjust VL 9A towards the Vulgate. A critical apparatus is provided for Mark in each manuscript.
The Gospel of John reflects several layers of social memory and theological creativity concerning Jesus’s death. In the early material, there seems to be a suppressed awareness of Jesus’s fate and an ...unwillingness to unfold it in narrative form – something that recalls the hypothetical sayings gospel Q and the Gospel of Thomas. There is also a search for alternative, figurative ways to visualize the endpoint of Jesus’s earthly life. Eventually, the narrative memory of Jesus’s passion, as told in Mark and Matthew, was adopted with some modifications. Among the modifications of the passion storyline is the narrativization of the image of Jesus as a Paschal Lamb, an image already known to Paul. The most remarkable innovation, however, was the figure of the “Beloved Disciple” as an eyewitness to Jesus’s passion and death.

This writing begins with the problematic present, namely the emergence of misconceptions about the person of ...Jesus Christ, such as the understanding of the Gnostic and pluralist groups today. To evaluate the wrong understanding needs a solid foundation, which is the gospel. The very gospel which deals with the person of Jesus Christ is the Gospel of John. With an explanation of the Divinity of Jesus Christ provides protection and answers to those who ask who Jesus Christ is.
