This study aims to analyse the main benefits observed due to ISO 9001:2015 implementation and certification in Brazilian companies. A survey with market professionals was conducted in order to ...perform this analysis. The data were statistically treated. First, Cronbach's Alpha was calculated to verify the reliability of the sample and Multidimensional Scaling was performed to eliminate possible outliers. Then, Exploratory Factor Analysis was conducted to identify the variables that englobe most of information variance and allocate them into factors. It was verified that from the 12 variables analysed, 7 were allocated into two factors that explained 70.913% of the model. In Factor 1, the variables were related to improvements in the business processes quality; reduction of errors and defects; improvements in the documentation processes; customer satisfaction. In Factor 2, the variables were related to improvements in cost savings; improvements in market share; and improvements in sales volume. The findings of this research can be useful for both academics and managers, for future research, and to evaluate possible opportunities to combine different managerial approaches to enhance the potential benefits that ISO 9001 can provide, respectively.
Cilj
ovog rada je odgovoriti na pitanje kako i pod kojim okolnostima mala i srednja poduzeća
danas donose odluku o implementaciji norme ISO 9001. Kako bi se rasvijetlio ovaj
nedovoljno istraženi fenomen u radu je sistematizirana literature na temu norme ISO
9001 i malih i srednjih poduzeća. Pritom je poseban naglasak stavljen na ključne
odrednice i prepreke implementaciji norme ISO 9001 u malim i srednjim poduzećima kao
i na ključne ishode u smislu performansi malih i srednjih poduzeća nakon implementacije
norme ISO 9001.
Purpose: The objective of this paper is to verify whether the ISO 9001 standard has an impact on the three components of intellectual capital, namely: human, structural, and relational ...capital.Design/methodology: Drawing on the absorptive capacity theory, the knowledge creation theory, and the sociotechnical systems theory, we developed a conceptual model that was tested on a sample of 100 Moroccan companies certified under ISO 9001.Findings: The results indicate a direct impact of the ISO 9001 standard on human capital, an indirect impact on structural capital through human capital, and finally, the ISO 9001 standard influences relational capital through a serial mediation of human and then structural capital.Originality / Value: This paper is a response to the current international debate on the importance of intellectual capital for value creation. Indeed, for intellectual capital to create value, it must be developed, and ISO 9001 standard precisely enables this development, as demonstrated by the results. Considering that more than a million organizations hold ISO 9001 certification worldwide, this aligns with the international scope of the debate on intellectual capital.
The motivation of this study is to provide empirical evidence of service companies’ performance regarding nine dimensions in a total quality management model during the COVID-19 pandemic. The nine ...dimensions highlight strategic company activities, and it allows a comparative analysis of the overall effect of having a QMS such as ISO 9001:2015 on Peruvian service companies. A total of 630 Peruvian service companies were surveyed for this study. The questionnaire included 35 Likert-scale items that were further classified into nine (9) dimensions. The Mann-Whitney U test was used to estimate any significant differences between the ISO 9001 certified and non-certified companies. Our findings showed that the performance of ISO 9001:2015 certified companies was significantly higher than that of non-certified companies in all dimensions. Moreover, our findings showed that managers in ISO 9001:2015 certified companies effectively implemented the nine dimensions of the model. The originality of this study lies in proving the positive effect of having a QMS in service companies in a context of slow economic growth and decline of consumer demand such as the COVID-19 pandemic. The findings might encourage service companies, especially those in developing countries, to allocate the necessary resources to obtain a QMS such as the ISO 9001:2015.

This work reflects on the benefits of applying risk-based thinking for improvement in a quality management system. Based on the crucial role of theory and on the belief that conceptual accuracy and ...clarity are the main key to an effective practice, this work studies and analyzes the state-of-the-art core concepts of improvement and risk management, through international and national standards, including ISO 9000, ISO 31000 and ANSI-PMI Standards, among others. Consequently, reformulations of the main definitions about improvement are proposed, with the contribution of risk-based thinking concepts, in order to provide a wider perspective of the knowledge platform that has been built. The structure of this paper consists of: Summary, Introduction, Framework, Analysis and Discussion, Conclusions and References.
This quantitative exploratory paper evaluates the degree of adoption of a cooperative to Total Quality Management (TQM) practices as a precursor study for its readiness for ISO 9001:2015 Quality ...Management System certification. Questionnaires were developed to explore practices already implemented within the ambit of TQM. Selected participants were grouped into two: (1) Management which is the middle-level management up to the CEO and (2) Governance composed of the Board of Directors, elected and appointed officers. A total number of 37 respondents were surveyed simultaneously. Primary data gathered from survey questionnaire were tested statistically for non-parametric datasets using SPSS16 for descriptive statistics and test of normality. Test statistics using Mann-Whitney U Test examines if the adoption of Quality Management Principles (QMPs) of ISO 9001-2015 is equally perceived by the two variable groupings. The study concluded that the seven QMPs are somewhat adopted based on the result of the overall mean score. Results of descriptive statistics for each of the QMP revealed that Leadership has the highest mean. Whereas other QMPs such Customer Focus, Improvement, Process Approach, Evidence-Based Decision Making, Engagement of People, and Relationship Management are somewhat adopted. Results of Mann-Whitney U Test revealed that TQM adoption is perceived more by the Governance group than by the Management group and the two variable groupings have differing perceptions on the adoption of TQM, thus rejecting the null hypothesis of similarity among the two groups.
The main purpose of this article is to depict the integration of Lean tools with requirements of ISO 9001:2015 standard as an operationalisation and support tool for a Quality Management System ...(QMS). The research was carried out through a questionnaire, which was sent to 2040 Portuguese companies. From the two hundred responses, 77 of them were validated (companies certified by at least one quality management system and which simultaneously have lean six sigma (LSS) tools and/or techniques implemented) corresponding to the sample of this study. Additionally, the research was also based on a case study in a footwear company where the model was applied. This research proposes a model for integrating Lean tools and requirements of ISO 9001:2015. This integration allows the QMS to become more practical and dynamic, reinforcing the creation of value for the organisation. As main benefits, we can highlight, among others: improvement of problem solving, waste reduction, improvement in internal communication, and increase in productivity. This article aims at becoming a relevant contribution to business management as it displays the main tools and methodologies to implement and sustain a QMS.

This study aims to identify whether different research methods linking ISO 9001 and performance have led to different results. To achieve that purpose, this study conducted a method review using ...scholarly articles selected from seven databases. Sixty-nine percent of previous cross-sectional studies linking ISO 9001 and performance concluded that there is a positive relationship between ISO 9001 and performance, while 77% of previous longitudinal studies did not find a relationship. The way the two methods acknowledged time sequence and certification and the inconsistency in terminologies and indicators might be the reasons behind the strikingly different research results. However, this study neither gauged the impact of each article to the field of the quality system nor the power of statistical tools used to indicate causality. This study also constrained by the limited resource. A method review is rare in the field of ISO 9001 and performance and currently, it is highly needed because after 30 years of research, there is still no sign of research results convergence.
Purpose: With the transition period for ISO 9001 certified organisations to migrate to the 2015 edition ending 15th September 2018, this investigation aims to evaluate the status of ISO 9001:2015 ...transition process and provide useful knowledge on the corresponding motivations, benefits, and success factors.Methodology/Approach: An empirical study of more than 300 Portuguese organisations ISO 9001 certified, or in certification process, encompassing a wide range of activities sectors, was carried out.Findings: As of May 2017, 19% of the respondents already have ISO 9001:2015 certification and all the remaining one’s plan to complete the process in time. The principal reported benefits are risk-based thinking, mapping of the organisational context, and stakeholder identification. Simultaneously those were the issues that required more attention and effort to be mastered and implemented. Additionally, there is evidence that ISO 9001:2015 enhances both internal and external organisational issues and generates benefits for all the researched dimensions. Based on the respondents’ responses, organisations who claimed that external motivations were the primary drivers to ISO 9001:2015 implementation systematically rate higher all the benefits when compared with the rating ascribed by those organisations who claimed internal motivations. Moreover, it is possible to conclude that the perceived benefits from ISO 9001:2015 implementation and certification seem to be strongly influenced by two primary dimensions: the (smaller) organisation size and the (lesser) international presence.Research Limitation/implication: Due to ISO 9001:2015 novelty, the results of this investigation should be subject to future confirmation and replicated in other countries to allow a generalisation of the conclusions. Since the survey is based on the perceptions of the organisation’s Managers, there is a potential response bias risk that should be acknowledged.Originality/Value of paper: With more than 1.2 million ISO 9001 certified organisation worldwide, this a highly relevant issue both for organisations, practitioners and academics. Due to ISO 9001:2015 novelty, this investigation aims to fill this research gap.
This research evaluates the perceptions from the conformity assessment community regarding the auditability of ISO 9001:2015 and the perception of its ease of use by the audited organisations. The ...study is supported on a survey promoted by the Strategic, Planning and Operations Task Group (SPOTG) of Subcommittee 2 of ISO TC 176 (TC 176/SC2) aiming at collect insights on using the standard and identify any need for future revisions. As an overall conclusion, in the view of certification bodies' auditors, programme managers and certification decision-makers, ISO 9001:2015 attained its main objectives. Nevertheless, it is suggested in the forthcoming ISO 9001 review cycle to adopt a more simplified language and to improve the ease of understanding and consistency of interpretations of the ISO 9001:2015 requirements. Additionally, suggestions for making clauses (e.g. 4.1. Understanding the organisation and its context, 6.1 Actions to address risks and opportunities, 7.1.6 Organisational Knowledge, and 4.2 Understanding the needs and expectations of interested parties) easier to apply and improving its auditability have also been identified.
