RésuméL’équipe qui depuis trois ans a effectué un retour critique et propose désormais un projet d’édition sur l’œuvre de Juglar a été assez rapidement amenée à constater que si sa contribution à la ...théorie moderne des cycles est indéniable, la réputation qui lui a été faite masque en revanche très largement sa véritable influence scientifique dans le domaine économique. De manière générale, la perception que nos contemporains ont des travaux de Juglar est relativement trompeuse tant dans ce que l’on peut considérer comme une renommée excessive au regard de sa véritable contribution à la théorie moderne des cycles que dans la vision très réductrice, i’e. strictement associée à l’analyse des cycles, de sa production. Comprendre l’approche de Clément Juglar nécessite de prendre en compte sa formation en médecine, le contexte de son initiation aux statistiques via ses travaux sur la population, son intérêt pour la théorie monétaire, essentielle à la compréhension comme au repérage des cycles et, enfin, le rôle de sa foi religieuse dans la représentation qu’il a de la nature du mouvement économique et social. Le souci de mieux délimiter la surface exacte des travaux de Juglar ne nous a pas pour autant exempté de certains choix. Ce sont les déterminants de ces choix dans l’édition que nous projetons actuellement qui sont examinés et justifiés dans cet article. Classification du JEL : A31, B1, B31
It is a commonly accepted view that the parity theory of forward exchange based on the law of one price was first formulated by Keynes. In this article we assess the preliminary shapes of the ...interest parity (IP) relation. After reviewing the early beginnings of the IP relation, we investigate two French economists of the mid-nineteenth century who have hitherto received no adequate attention. We argue that Bonnet and Juglar ought to be considered pioneers in the assessment of IP relation since Goschen's contribution is related to the specificity of 'long' exchange rates at a bimetallic time.
