Tamil thirunangais (or hijras) emphatically claim that in thirunangai kinship networks there is no caste, class or religion, that individuals are accepted regardless of their birth family. This ...kinship network creates a space of desirable encounters where thirunangais can reorientate themselves to their community as well as the larger public. Gender identity is central to thirunangai lives, but it operates in a nexus of other forces. Devotional practices within and outside the kinship community provide a space for thirunangais to transgress hierarchical norms of gender, caste and class and construct authentic identities empowered by divine agency.
In arid and semi-arid regions, planting drought-tolerant species is the most useful strategy in the reclamation of degraded soils. In the present study, we evaluated the effect of simulated drought ...by polyethylene glycol (PEG-6000) on seed germination and seedling growth of three desert plants such as Atriplex canescens, Salsola kali and Zygophyllum fabago. Seeds were subjected to water stress to drought stress by PEG at five stress levels (0, −1, −4, −8, −12, −14 bars). Germination of Z. fabago was completely inhibited at an osmotic potential of −8, −10 and −12 bars and the germination of A. canescens was inhibited only at −14 bar. In contrast, S. kali responded positively to high levels of stress and our results showed the highest final germination percent (71.75, 54 and 18.25%) under three-drought stress −8, −12 and −14 bars, respectively. In addition, increasing PEG concentration adversely affected the germination rate and seedling vigor index as well as the root and shoot length of species. Under high stress levels, S. kali achieved a higher germination rate and seedling vigor index compared to Z. fabago and A. canescens. Among species, S. kali was the only one able to develop roots and shoots at −14 bar. Therefore, S. kali could be considered as a promising plant for the rehabilitation of degraded soils at risk of desertification.

Animal sacrifice is explored through ...questions relating to materiality, personhood and the mutual permeability of persons and objects. The aim is to advance an interpretation based on native conceptions regarding the potential effects of the exchange and circulation of substances between devotees of the goddess Kali, Hindu deities, and ritual artefacts.
Resumo O texto descreve procedimentos rituais associados ao sacrifício de animais no culto à deusa hindu Kali na Guiana, antiga Guiana Inglesa. O sacrifício de animais é pensado à luz de questões relativas à materialidade, a pessoalidade e à permeabilidade de pessoas e objetos umas às outras. Busca-se avançar uma interpretação centrada nas concepções nativas sobre os potenciais efeitos da troca e da circulação de substâncias entre devotos da deusa Kali, divindades hindus. e artefatos rituais.
Latar belakang. Pasien imunokompromais lebih berisiko terinfeksi kuman Mycobacterium tuberculosis. Sensitivitas uji tuberkulin pada pasien anak dengan keganasan berkurang karena penurunan T helper 1 ...(Th 1). Diperlukan dua kali uji tuberkulin untuk meningkatkan sensitivitas uji tuberkulin pada anak dengan keganasan.Tujuan. Mengetahui penggunaan dua kali uji tuberkulin lebih sensitif mendeteksi infeksi tuberkulosis pada anak dengan keganasan dibandingkan satu kali uji tuberkulin.Metode. Penelitian cross sectional dilakukan Juli 2016 sampai 31 Maret 2017 pada pasien anak yang baru terdiagnosis penyakit keganasan, usia 6 bulan sampai 18 tahun di Rumah Sakit Dr. M. Hoesin (RSMH). Uji tuberkulin dilakukan pada semua subjek. Anak dengan hasil uji tuberkulin negatif saat uji tuberkulin pertama, dilakukan uji tuberkulin kedua setelah 2 sampai 4 minggu uji tuberkulin pertama. Hasil positif bila indurasi ≥5 mm.Hasil. Lima puluh pasien anak dengan keganasan ikut dalam penelitian. Tigapuluh dua subjek laki-laki, 18 subjek perempuan. Jenis penyakit keganasan terbanyak adalah leukemia limfoblastik akut 27 (54%). Pada uji tuberkulin pertama didapatkan hasil positif pada 4 subjek dan pada uji tuberkulin kedua didapatkan hasil positif pada 7 subjek. Terdapat perbedaan signifikan (p<0,001) antara indurasi hasil uji tuberkulin pertama dan kedua. Terdapat peningkatan sensitivitas dua kali uji tuberkulin dibandingkan satu kali uji tuberkulin.Kesimpulan. Penggunaan dua kali uji tuberkulin pada anak dengan keganasan lebih sensitif untuk mendeteksi infeksi tuberkulosis dibandingkan satu kali uji tuberkulin.
Salsola kali, una planta desértica, ha sido propuesta como un potencial hiperacumulador de Cd. Estudios de espectroscopía de Rayos-X han mostrado que compuestos conteniendo oxígeno y grupos tiol ...están involucrados en la absorción de Cd en esta planta. Por ello se ha planteado que algunos ácidos orgánicos, pared celular, fitoquelatinas y otros compuestos conteniendo glutatión, pueden estar relacionados con los mecanismos de hiperacumulación de Cd en S. kali. En esta investigación se expusieron plantas silvestres a diferentes concentraciones de Cd para determinar el contenido de este metal en el xilema y floema, así como en fracciones proteínicas. Adicionalmente, extractos de las plantas se analizaron mediante cromatografía líquida a alta presión para identificar y cuantificar ácidos orgánicos. Las plantas se trataron con 0, 20, 200 y 400 mg Cd L-1 por 48 h en hidroponia. La incorporación de Cd se midió por separado en raíces, floema y xilema. Se encontró que en plantas tratadas con concentraciones de Cd por encima de los 200 mg Cd L-1, el contenido de Cd fue mayor en el floema que en el xilema. El perfil proteínico (SDS-PAGE) mostró que en plantas tratadas con Cd se incrementa la presencia de dos péptidos y se expresa uno nuevo. Después de una filtración en gel G25 y codeterminación de Cd, se encontró que es muy probable que dos proteínas (de 29 kDa y 14 kDa) estén asociadas al Cd. El uso de primers degenerados de la familia Brassica permitió la identificación de un posible gen de la fitoquelatin sintasa. Los ácidos cítrico y oxálico fueron identificados en los extractos de las plantas. No se encontraron diferencias significativas entre las concentraciones de ácido cítrico en plantas control y en aquellas tratadas con Cd. Por otro lado, la cantidad de ácido oxálico en plantas expuestas a Cd fue significativamente menor que en las plantas control. Estos datos pueden indicar que el Cd pudo haber precipitado como cristales de oxalato. Los resultados reportados aquí serán útiles para entender a mayor profundidad los mecanismos de hiperacumulación de Cd en S. kali.
Allergy diagnosis in patients exposed to multiple pollen species is complex and misdiagnosis is often a cause for unsuccessful specific immunotherapy. We studied the sensitization profile of ...individual allergens (major, minor and pan-allergens) in pollen-sensitized patients in a region with high exposure to olive pollen by investigating the influence of minor allergens on allergic disease and the association between pan- and minor allergen sensitizations. A panel of 13 purified allergens, which included the most relevant allergens in the area, as well as minor olive allergens and pan-allergens, were screened using a high-capacity technology (ADVIA-Centaur®) in 891 patients. Olive allergy as measured by specific IgE to Ole e 1 was the leading pollinosis in the area. The minor olive allergens Ole e 7 and Ole e 9 were markers of more severe allergic illness. Profilin sensitization was associated mainly with grass allergy, the second most prevalent pollinosis. Salsola kali pollen allergy was the third most common cause of pollinosis in the area. The prevalence of sensitization to the peach allergen Pru p 3, a nonspecific lipid-transfer protein, was notable. Epidemiological analysis by component-resolved diagnosis is a new method, which elucidates the interaction between allergen exposure gradient and patient sensitization. High exposure leads to differential sensitization profiles some of which are associated with more severe allergic conditions. Profilin sensitization, related mainly to grass pollinosis, was a marker of more severe grass pollen sensitization.
Đề tài điều tra kỹ thuật canh tác khoai lang của nông dân được thực hiện nhằm tìm hiểu kỹ thuật canh tác của nông dân và xác định hiện trạng dinh dưỡng K, Ca (trao đổi trong đất và tổng số trong củ) ...trong sản xuất khoai lang ở huyện Bình Tân, tỉnh Vĩnh Long từ tháng 11/2011 đến tháng 6/2012. Kết quả điều tra 60 hộ dân canh tác khoai lang cho thấy giống khoai lang Tím Nhật được trồng phổ biến (98,3%) và nguồn hom giống được lấy phần lớn tại địa phương (98,3%). Sâu bệnh gây hại chủ yếu là bệnh héo dây và sùng xuất hiện hầu hết ở các hộ điều tra. Cách phòng trừ sâu bệnh của nông dân là phun thuốc ngừa định kỳ 7 ngày/lần với số lần sử thuốc bảo vệ thực vật trong một vụ khoai lang trung bình 18 lần/vụ. Số lần bón phân trong vụ khoai lang phổ biến từ 7-8 lần/vụ. Chi phí trung bình cho 1 ha trồng khoai lang khoảng 87 triệu đồng/ha, năng suất đạt trung bình là 28.270 kg/ha, lợi nhuận trung bình 158 triệu đồng/ha và tùy thuộc lớn vào thị trường thời điểm thu hoạch khoai. Kết quả khảo sát cho thấy K trao đổi trong đất ở mức thấp (0,241 meq/100 g đất) và Ca trao đổi ở mức cao (5,267 meq/100 g đất). Hàm lượng K tổng số trong củ khoai lang trung bình 0,967% K khối lượng chất khô và Ca tổng số trong củ là 0,08%.
The famous spiritual personality of mid-Victorian Bengal, Sri Ramakrishna (monastic name of Gadadhar Chattopadhyay) was, like Socrates of Hellenic Athens, an oral prophet. His method of teaching and ...preaching was through informal and homely homilies and anecdotes. These, compiled and subsequently published by his devotee Mahendranath Gupta (alias SriM), have been translated from the original Bāṅglā into numerous languages of India and the world titled as Ramakrishna Kathāmṛta. The contents of this compilation have universally been considered deeply spiritual albeit delivered in patois Bengali befitting the nearly illiterate speaker. There are no studies, hagiographical or hermeneutical, examining the Master’s neologisms and his natural gift as a tusitala, that is a story-maker and storyteller, and interrogating the much-publicized spiritual subtext of his logia. This paper addresses the lacunae of what may be called Rāmakṛṣṇāyana, that, Ramakrishna-related literature.
