Using the (unweighted) average linkage clustering (UPGMA) method we classified 458 phytosociological relevés of
forests in the Southeastern Alps into 25 clusters. Based on their analysis we described ...the following new subassociations:

The selected method proved adequate in identifying the differences between larch stands on potential subalpine spruce and beech sites, and larch forests on the upper forest line, as well as the differences between initial larch stages on the upper forest line and more stable development stages on better developed soils on promontories and ledges above the upper beech forest line. Larch forests occur mainly in the altitudinal belt between (1,500) 1,600 and 1,800 (1,900) m, on shady aspects and slopes that are steeper than 30°. They are some of the best preserved forest types in the Southeastern Alps, on smaller surface areas (Macesnje above the Beli Potok valley in the Julian Alps) even virgin forests, and their role as biotopes is exceptional.
The individual phases of the moon show us this nocturnal satellite subjected to the laws of a cycle of dying and rising. In ancient times different peoples honoured the moon and the stars and felt ...connected to them in some way. These two symbols are present in various ways on ancient coins such as Greek, Roman or even Celtic ones. The representation of these symbols on ancient coins is sometimes different and has different meanings. The symbol of the crescent moon with the star was revived again in the Middle Ages and was depicted in different ways on many European coins, especially in the 13th century AD. The depiction of the crescent moon with the star on these coins has a new meaning that relates to Christian symbolism. This article presents the history of this symbol, its meaning in antiquity and in the Middle Ages and its possible connection with astronomical events. In particular we analyzed a Trieste’s medieval coin minted in the second half of the 13th century by the bishop of the city of Trieste Arlongus, on which the symbol of the crescent moon with a six-pointed star is clearly visible.
During ethnological-folkloristic work in the Kamnik area, I often came across accounts of Kamnik or Nevlje Lake in the narratives of the local people. At the same time, encountered clearly expressed ...doubts regarding this tradition. This led to the explanation of the existence of the lake as early as when Christianity had spread across Slovenia. This explanation indicates new understanding of the town itself: it points to the existence of unknown Kamnik.
In the Julian Alps (Mt. Prisojnik, NW Slovenia) and in the Kamnik–Savinja Alps (Mt. Križevnik, N Slovenia), both of which form part of the eastern Southern Alps, several meters of Upper Anisian ...pelagic red nodular, radiolarian-rich limestone (Loibl Formation) were deposited on the drowned platform carbonates of the Contrin Formation. The time of the platform drowning is dated with radiolarians and conodonts to the Illyrian, more precisely to the upper part of the
Paraceratites trinodosus
Ammonoid Zone. The red limestone is overlain by pyroclastics and volcanics (rhyolites) or carbonate (mega)breccia (Uggowitz Formation). The following unit consists of thin-bedded limestone, grainstone and subordinate marl (Buchenstein Formation) deposited during the final filling of the basin from the adjacent prograding carbonate platform (Schlern Formation) in the Ladinian. Map-scale geometry, neptunian dykes, the onset of volcanism, the presence of (mega)breccia and related paleo-escarpments, the lateral variations in thickness and the wedge-shaped geometry of the lithological units provide evidence of syn-sedimentary block faulting and the formation of small-scale, relatively shallow half-grabens within the previously uniform Slovenian Carbonate Platform. This analysis indicates a clear tectonic control over the development of the Middle Triassic stratigraphy. The described extensional event is well correlated and genetically connected with the syn-rift formation of the neighboring Slovenian Basin and other Southern Alpine basins that formed in connection with the opening of the Meliata-Maliac branch of the Neotethys Ocean.
A less known damaging earthquake in southern part of Kamnik-Savinja Alps, Slovenia, in 1840 is described. The main shock was on 27 August 1840 with the epicentre in Tuhinj Valley. The maximum ...intensity was VII EMS-98 in Ljubljana, Slovenia, and in Eisenkappel, Austria. It was felt as far as Venice, Italy, 200 km away. The macroseismic magnitude of the main shock, estimated from the area of intensity VI EMS-98, was 5.0. The effects of the main shock and its aftershocks are described, and an earthquake catalogue for Slovenia in 1840 is provided. Available primary sources (newspaper articles) are presented.
The area of the eastern Kamnik-Savinja Alps was glaciated in the time of the Last Pleistocene Glacial Maximum (LGM). The glacial landforms mentioned by the previous researchers and other landforms in ...the area were examined, gemorphologically mapped, morphographically and morphometrically analysed and a new map of the extent of the LGM was produced. The research revealed several glaciers in the area and that their sizes differed, primarily depending on the slope inclination direction.
A detailed sedimentological features of the Slatinski plaz section with a transition from the deep-water Anisian (Illyrian) Strelovec Formation to the Ladinian shallow-water Contrin Formation have ...been presented. The Strelovec Formation is divided into fie different lithostratigraphic units that are characterised by dark hemipelagic and pelagic thin-bedded limestones and dolomitic mudstones that are frequently intercalated with deposits of gravitymass flws, slump and slide to fie-grained low-density turbidity origin. The Strelovec Formation was deposited in a hydrodynamically quiet, pelagic deeper-water anoxic environment, most probably on a gentle platform slope. In the upper part of the formation, the presence of olistolith blocks of shallow-water limestones indicates the closing of the prograding shallow-water platform wedge. Massive dolostones of Unit 6 mark the complete filing of the basin and the beginning of the shallow-water sedimentation of the Contrin Formation in the Early Ladinian.
V času druge svetovne vojne je območje Kamnika zasedel nemški okupator in ga skušal z različnimi ukrepi integrirati v rajh ter mu dati čim bolj nemški pečat. V ta kontekst so poleg ponemčevanja ...prebivalstva sodile številne investicije na področju prometne, upravne in stanovanjske infrastrukture, s katero je okupator v priključeno pokrajino vnesel svojo značilno arhitekturo. Večina investicij nemškega okupatorja v Kamniku je bila izvedena medpoletjem 1941 in jesenjo 1943. Avtor z zgodovinskega stališča z ohranjenimi dokumenti oziroma arhivskimi viri, načrti in fotografijamipredstavi najpomembnejše zgradbe in druge infrastrukturne investicije, ki so nastale v Kamniku v času nemške okupacije, njihovo »predzgodovino« ter namembnost v času vojne in po njej.
Upper Triassic basin-platform succession in the Kamnik-Savinja Alps (N-central Slovenia) is similar to the succession known from the Julian Alps (Martuljek Mountain Group). It was part of the same ...Late Triassic depositional edifice, with the progradation of the Dachstein Platform in the SW-NE direction (recent orientation) from Julian Alps toward the Kamnik-Savinja Alps. Tectonic blocks with the same/similar stratigraphic record, were displaced as a consequence of the Alpine and later tectonic displacements. In the Kamnik-Savinja Alps, the upper part of the Martuljek platy limestone was dated with the conodonts as Late Carnian – Early Norian in the Mt. Ko~na. In the Mt. Skuta area, Limestone with chert is positioned above Martuljek platy limestone and under the Dachstein carbonate platform. Uppermost part of the Limestone with chert is Late Norian. Mutual vertical and lateral relationship, age of the lithological units, especially upper part of the deeper-water limestone, points to the progradation of the Dachstein carbonate platform in the Early Norian and possible aggradation in the part of the Middle and in the Late Norian.
