The research in this book on the geographical context of drug addiction contributes to better understanding the etiology of addiction, its diffusion, its interaction with geographically variable ...environmental, social, and economic factors, and the strategies for its treatment and prevention. This book explores links between geography and drug abuse and identifies research ideas, connections, and research pathways which point to some promising avenues for future work in this area. The topics explored in Geography and Drug Addiction include: (1) Spatial patterns of drug use and addiction. (2) Linking spatial models with drug abuse research. (3) Interaction of social and environmental factors with biochemical processes of addiction. (4) Locational analyses of drug addiction treatment and service delivery facilities. (5) Neighborhood scale studies of geographic factors (including the built environment) and their interaction with drug addiction, treatment, or prevention. (6) Use of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to better understanding and respond to drug addiction. (7) Spatial diffusion modeling of addictive drug usage and its changing characteristics, including also predictive modeling. (8) Social epidemiology and GIS. This book is an outcome of the jointly sponsored AAG/NIDA Geography and Drug Symposium. It will serve as an excellent resource to geographers and drug abuse researchers, including sociologists, epidemiologists, social scientists in general and public health researchers, both in policy and academia.
Reflecting the first evaluation among British and American anthropologists of the relevance of Marxist theory for their discipline, the studies in this volume cover a wide geographical and social ...spectrum ranging from rural Indonesia, Imperial China, Highland Burma and the Abron kingdom of Gyaman. A critical survey assesses the value of some key ideas of Marx and Engels to social anthropology and places in historical perspective the changing attitudes of social anthropologists to the Marxist tradition. Blažena Djevica Marija i njezina uloga u povijesti spasenja
predstavljaju poteškoće u ekumenskim razgovorima između
kršćanskih crkava i crkvenih zajednica.
mariološki kongresi organiziranjem ekumenskih susreta i razgovora
predstavnika kršćanskih crkava. Plod njihovih promišljanja
jesu i ekumenske izjave s tih susreta koje se u ovom članku objavljuju
prvi put na hrvatskom jeziku i u kojem se predstavlja njihov
sadržaj i važnost. U svojim raspravama sudionici razgovora
otkrivaju mnoge zajedničke pojedinosti s obzirom na ulogu Majke
Isusove u povijesti spasenja, u zajedništvu svetih i u kršćanskoj
duhovnosti.
The issue of women's rights in Turkey goes back to the Tanzimat and Constitutional era. Women's rights in Turkey, shaped by modernization, reached the level of Western women with the declaration of ...the Republic of Turkey and the Revolutions, thus surpassing many Western countries chronologically. Turkish women became visible with the social transformation that started with the proclamation of the Republic. The revolutions made by Mustafa Kemal Atatürk in the elds of education, law and political rights made it possible for Turkish women to reach success in their struggle of rights faster than their contemporaries. The improvement of the social status of Turkish women, especially in their political rights, affected women in many Middle Eastern countries, especially women in Egypt. The 12th Congress of the International Union of Women organized in İstanbul in 1935 clearly showed the close attention of Egyptian women to Turkey. In this article, based on the newspapers, magazines and memorial works of that time, the effects of the developments in women's rights in Turkey on Egyptian women were examined.
Concerns about the inequalities between the center and the periphery within the development of International Relations Discipline (IR) have brought doubts about whether or not the theoretical concepts of International Relations could be developed by contributions from national differences. In addition, studies with a thorough prospect about how the IR theorization has developed in a periphery country or in a region and researching about the factors which have prevented the development of original theoretical paradigms have yet to exist. Taking the road with Turkey's experience, this article foresees the original theorization in IR as the only way for the periphery to be acknowledged respectably by the center.
