Research on gentrification has been conducted for over 50 years by representatives of many disciplines. Modern gentrification is a process somewhat different from that originally described by R. ...Glass in 1964. Authors do not agree how to measure the process, nor how to explain its meaning (Bourne, 1993). Creating the right indicators is very difficult, especially if it is widely believed that gentrification, as a process identifying changes over time and a way of measuring dynamics, should enable the comparison of data from multiple years (Lees, 2010). The aim of this study was to identify the socio-spatial changes taking place in the Warsaw district of Praga Północ and to determine if it can be described as gentrification. The study area is a district stereotypically perceived as neglected, dangerous and deteriorated (e.g. Dudek-Mańkowska, 2011), at the same time subject to strong functional changes. Praga Północ is also an area of interest to many artists, creative industries and developers, and is undergoing gradual regeneration through municipal urban revitalization programs. It is also an area that the media portray as undergoing the process of gentrification. The results show that social and residential changes actually take place but the overall gentrification has not been felt by residents.
Recently, post-socialist inner cities have been transforming through various processes of revitalisation and gentrification. The resulting physical and social contrasts of neighbouring localities ...lead to the spatial fragmentation of inner-city areas that may produce variegated effects on the everyday life of local residents. This paper examines how long-term residents of an inner-city neighbourhood in Prague undergoing residential and commercial gentrification have perceived and lived through its change. Specifically, it reveals how the ongoing changes influence residents' place attachment. The paper relies upon qualitative methodology using semi-structured in-depth interviews with long-term inhabitants (>20 years). Empirical findings point to a strong and stable place attachment, despite ambivalent attitudes towards recent changes related to gentrification. The effect of gentrification on place attachment appears to be relatively limited. Many residents acknowledge that gentrification has reversed the deterioration that characterised the neighbourhood in the past. Moreover, negatively perceived changes to the neighbourhood are often not attributed primarily to the gentrification process but understood as a natural part of residents' own ageing, wider societal changes, and historical development of the neighbourhood. The article highlights the need to investigate the personal, spatial and temporal contexts to comprehend the complex effects of gentrification on long-term residents.
Abstract The objective of this work was to describe the sexual dimorphism and mating behavior of Lobiopa insularis for the development of pest control and management programs. The morphological ...characteristics for separating males and females were described with the aid of a stereomicroscope. Mating sequence was recorded over 72 hours with a digital camera. There are differences between males and females in the last abdomen segments, and males maintain a guarding position after mating. The obtained data can be used in monitoring programs to precisely identify the sex of the insects, also shedding light on the ecological features of this pest and Nitidulidae.
Resumo O objetivo deste trabalho foi descrever o dimorfismo sexual e o comportamento de cópula de Lobiopa insularis, para o desenvolvimento de programas de controle e manejo de pragas. As características morfológicas para separação de machos e fêmeas foram descritas com auxílio de estereomicroscópio. A sequência de cópula foi registrada por 72 horas com câmera digital. Há diferenças entre machos e fêmeas nos segmentos finais do abdômen, e os machos mantêm posição de guarda após a cópula. Os dados obtidos podem ser usados em programa de monitoramento para uma identificação precisa do sexo do inseto, além de lançarem luz sobre os traços ecológicos desta praga e de Nitidulidae.

The Praga Museum of Warsaw formally exists as a branch of Museum of Warsaw since 2006. Since 2015, having its place of residence renovated and main exhibition opened, it is fully active on a local ...ground of Praga district. Briefing main programme assumptions this text concentrates on three most important questions: why does the museum exist, is it relevant to the needs of the local community and what are its main tasks in that context.

O presente trabalho é dedicado à discussão da influência do formalismo russo sobre o Círculo Lingüístico de Praga e o estruturalismo tcheco como um todo. Para tanto, o autor apresenta ao leitor ...diversos pontos de vista, inclusive dos próprios estudiosos tchecos. A conclusão a que chega o autor é que o estruturalismo não é uma continuação ou uma evolução do formalismo, mas uma tendência em si mesma que se opõe a seu antecessor.
El ensayo gira en torno a ciertos episodios de la historia de la difusión de las ideas de la Escuela de Praga en América Latina. Después de proponer una breve contextualización histórica, la autora ...describe el papel del hispanista checo Oldřich Bělič en este proceso, en particular, los contactos de Bělič con los ambientes académicos de Chile, Cuba y Colombia, y sus publicaciones en estos países. Se presentan también los aportes que hicieron al intercambio intelectual dos de sus más destacados alumnos de la Universidad Carolina, que dejaron su país natal después de 1968: Jarmila Jandová y Emil Volek. En dos ediciones ejemplares, publicadas en Bogotá, Jandová y Volek tradujeron y comentaron para el lector hispanohablante las obras de Jan Mukařovský y de otros representantes del pensamiento estético checo. En la última parte del ensayo se proponen unas breves observaciones sobre la repercusión de la teoría literaria checa en los trabajos de los críticos latinoamericanos (Roberto Fernández Retamar, Nelson Osorio Tejeda, Iván Padilla Chasing), quienes, gracias a la intermediación de Bělič, Jandová y Volek, entraron en contacto directo con el legado de la Escuela de Praga.
The woodwasp Sirex noctilio (Fabricius) (Hymenoptera: Siricidae) is one of the main pests of Pinus plantations in South America. The aim of this study is to report the occurrence of S. noctilio in ...Pinus taeda in Botucatu, São Paulo, Brazil. The surveys were carried out in the arboretum of Faculdade de Ciências Agronômicas (FCA) da Universidade Estadual Paulista “Júlio de Mesquita Filho” (UNESP), campus Botucatu, SP where six species of Pinus are distributed in blocks of 100 trees. Resin beads were observed on the trunks and stems of Pinus species. In post-flight evaluation it was reported that 8.77% of P. taeda trees showed symptoms of oviposition by S. noctilio. A female S. noctilio was found performing oviposition. Sirex noctilio is present in Botucatu, increasing the geographical distribution of the pest in São Paulo State.
RESUMO: A vespa-da-madeira, Sirex noctilio (Fabricius) (Hymenoptera: Siricidae) é uma das principais pragas de plantações de Pinus na América do Sul. O objetivo deste estudo foi relatar a ocorrência de Sirex noctilio (Hymenoptera: Siricidae) em Pinus taeda em Botucatu, São Paulo, Brasil. As pesquisas foram realizadas no arboreto da Faculdade de Ciências Agronômicas (FCA) da Universidade Estadual Paulista “Júlio de Mesquita Filho” (UNESP), campus Botucatu, SP, composto por seis espécies de Pinus distribuídas em blocos de 100 árvores. Respingos de resina foram visualizados nos troncos das espécies de Pinus. Na avaliação pós-revoada verificou-se que 8,77% das árvores de P. taeda apresentaram sintomas de oviposição por S. noctilio. Uma fêmea de S. noctilio foi encontrada realizando oviposição. Sirex noctilio está presente em Botucatu, ampliando a distribuição geográfica da praga no estado de São Paulo.
