The present study examines whether, and to what degree, occupational stress in law enforcement is associated with job satisfaction, work-related burnout, and supervisor support. A total of 538 ...Turkish National Police (TNP) members form seven cities in Turkey completed the study survey. The results of the study indicate that the more TNP members experience their organization as stress inducing, the lower their job satisfaction levels, and the higher their burnout levels. Perceived operational stress was found to be significantly associated with their work-related burnout, but not with their job satisfaction. This study also suggests that there is an indirect causal effect of both organizational and operational stress on job satisfaction via supervisor support as mediator. Overall, the findings of this study illustrate a need for internal policy reform and managerial change in how the executives of TNP organize their agency and policies since organizational stressors are the most prevalent factors determining the work-related wellbeing of TNP members.
Due to major work disruptions caused by the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, supervisors in organizations are facing leadership challenges as they attempt to manage “work from home” arrangements, the ...health and safety of essential workers, and workforce reductions. Accordingly, the present research seeks to understand what types of leadership employees think is most important for supervisors to exhibit when managing these crisis-related contexts and, in light of assertions that women may be better leaders during times of crisis, examines gender differences in how male and female supervisors act and how subordinates perceive and evaluate them in real (Study 1) and hypothetical (Study 2) settings. Results indicate that communal leader behaviors were more important to employees in all three crisis contexts. In Study 1, communality was a stronger predictor than agency of supervisor likability and competence. In Study 2, communality was also more positively related to likability, but agency and communality were equally predictive of competence ratings. Ratings of real supervisors suggest that women were not more communal than men when managing these crises, nor did perceptions of leader behavior differ by supervisor gender in a controlled experiment. However, evaluations of women's competence were more directly related to their display of communal behaviors than were evaluations of male supervisors. This research is helpful practically in understanding effective supervisory leadership during the COVID-19 crisis and contributes to the literature on gender and leadership in crisis contexts by attempting to disentangle gender differences in leader behaviors, perceptions, and evaluations.
The idea of the education supervisor profession ethics code departs from the reality of some existing education supervisors who ignore the values of morality and lack of a strong awareness to heed ...professional ethics when providing professional expert services to teachers even though the professional actors already have a professional code of ethics as the moral standard. One solution for teachers to remain professional in teaching is by upholding ethics, professionalism, and discipline. The code of ethics of the supervisory profession in principle contains moral values that underlie professional personality, namely responsibility, justice, autonomy, and moral integrity. Professional supervisor ethics cannot be separated from Islamic ethical values on the basis of understanding of the Qur'an and Hadith, so basically, the code of ethics of the education supervisor profession should be in line with the Islamic values.
Applying on a componential model of creativity, this study intends to integrate creativity and knowledge sharing literatures by empirically examining the relationship between knowledge sharing from ...different sources (i.e., supervisor and coworkers) and the focal employees' creative behavior. Taking an interactionist perspective, the study aims to investigate the interaction effects of knowledge sharing from supervisor and coworkers on the employees' creative behavior. Furthermore, this study investigates how employees' regulatory focus alters the aforementioned relationship. Our results show the positive influence of knowledge sharing from supervisor and coworker on employees' creative behavior. Also, our results support that the positive relationship between coworker knowledge sharing and employees' creative behavior could vary depending on the degree of supervisor knowledge sharing and the regulatory focus of the employees.
Abstract The classification, investigation, and management of the safety risk (namely, risk-hazard double pre-control management mechanism) in coal mines were introduced into a behavioral evolution ...game to assess the decision-making processes of coal mine workers, regulators, and supervisors. A tripartite game tree and a revenue perception matrix were constructed, and the evolutionary stability strategy (ESS) achieved by the evolutionary system under different conditions was obtained according to the replication dynamic equation (RD). The numerical simulation of the evolution game was conducted in MATLAB, which verified the influence of various parameters on the behaviors adopted by all parties. The results show: (1) When the safety, regulatory, and supervisory costs are high, the average expected value of mine workers, regulators, and supervisors to choose safety behaviors is low, so they adopt an unsafe behavior. By contrast, reducing costs can encourage the adoption of safety behaviors. (2) When the punishment for accident losses caused by unsafe behavior and the lack of regulations and supervision is higher than 50% of the initial state, the actors in the tripartite game are more inclined to avoid risks when facing cost losses in the short term, which can lead them to choose a safety behavior. (3) When the actors in the tripartite game face different accident probabilities and accident loss, with the severity of the accident increasing to 80% of the initial state, mine workers and regulators gradually adopt safety and regulation behaviors, and supervisors quickly adopt supervision methods.
This study assessed the impact of field-based practical training on job performance in Tanzania from students’ and work supervisors’ perspectives. Data were collected using a semi-structured ...questionnaire from 1,617 undergraduate, diploma ad certificate students from the seven colleges of The University of Dodoma and 67 interviews held with work supervisors of 56 host institutions. The results of the study indicate that there is a significant relationship between the level of education and the application of knowledge at the workplace (p < .001). There is also a significant relationship between the higher level of education and student placement in field practical training (p = .003), meaning that those pursuing degrees perform better than those pursuing diplomas and certificate-level education. The findings, which were also corroborated by the work supervisors who reported that 51% of students were prepared well, and therefore could apply what they have been taught in class. Moreover, 71% of the supervisors were of the opinion that the students could learn new things at the workplace. The study documents the challenges facing host institutions as well as higher learning institutions in implementing field-based practical training and makes recommendations to improve the provision of field-based practical training in Tanzania.

We explore the impact of supervision on the riskiness, profitability, and growth of U.S. banks. Using data on supervisors' time use, we demonstrate that the top-ranked banks by size within a ...supervisory district receive more attention from supervisors, even after controlling for size, complexity, risk, and other characteristics. Using a matched sample approach, we find that these top-ranked banks that receive more supervisory attention hold less risky loan portfolios, are less volatile, and are less sensitive to industry downturns, but do not have lower growth or profitability. Our results underscore the distinct role of supervision in mitigating banking sector risk.
The Financial Industry Regulatory Authority fined the broker/dealer Aegis Capital approximately $2.8 million for failing to supervise potentially excessive trading by some of the firm’s registered ...reps. According to the letter of acceptance, waiver and consent with Aegis, from July 2014 to December 2018, the firm lacked the supervisory procedures to catch trading in hundreds of investors’ accounts that were potentially unsuitable. According to the agency, the two supervisors were responsible for overseeing the activity of six of the reps in question and failed to respond to 700 of the 900 exception reports.
The research aimed at identifying job involvement in physical education supervisors in the Iraqi general educational directorate. The researchers used the descriptive method on (492) physical ...education supervisors from (20) directorates. A scale was designed of four fields distributed on (3) items arranged in the form of a questionnaire. The data was collected and treated using SPSS. The results showed that designing a measurement is of great importance to detect the level of job involvement in physical education supervisors and their daily administration of work to improve and evaluate physical education class as well as programs designed for students. The researchers finally recommended adapting measurement as a means for discovering the degree of job involvement for producing new, distinguished products. In addition to that, they recommended listening to supervisors’ suggestions and giving them the freedom of speech a matter that motivates them for better job involvement and developing for the better.
Although it is widely assumed that procrastination is counterproductive, delaying task progress may have hidden benefits for creativity. Drawing on theories of incubation, we propose that moderate ...procrastination can foster creativity when employees have the intrinsic motivation and opportunity to generate new ideas. In two experiments in the United States, we tempted participants to engage in varying degrees of procrastination by making different numbers of funny YouTube videos easily accessible while they were supposed to be solving business problems. Participants generated more creative ideas in the moderate rather than low or high procrastination conditions. This curvilinear effect was partially mediated by problem restructuring and the activation of new knowledge. We constructively replicated and extended the curvilinear effect in a field study with Korean employees: procrastination predicted lower task efficiency but had an inverted-U-shaped relationship with creativity. Employees who procrastinated moderately received higher creativity ratings from their supervisors than employees who procrastinated more or less, provided that intrinsic motivation or creative requirement was high. We discuss theoretical and practical implications for time management, creativity, and motivation in organizations.
