The article considers the methodological concept of economic transformation of the competitive potential of the tourism industry subjects and characterizes the elements of it. The focus is on the ...stages (phases) of economic transformation of the competitive potential of the tourism industry. The study reveals consistent and regular changes in its development, from turbulence to transformation. Transformation is a long-term process that brings drastic qualitative and quantitative changes to the economy. The principles that govern the economic transformation of the competitive potential of the tourism industry subjects include objectivity, historicism, systematicity, consumer value, reproduction, and smart specialization. The basis of the economic transformational process is a modification of the criteria for evaluating the competitive advantages of the subjects, namely the sustainability, safety, and competitive advantages. Approaches to developing a tourism subject's competitive potential in the post-war period in Ukraine are analyzed. They determine the interdependencies of economic transformation processes, the dynamics of their course, and evolutionary changes (transformation cycle). The economic transformation tools are identified. They depend on transformational changes and require well-considered means and management measures when changing the old model into a new one, which influences the rapidness of changes. The model involves a scheme for evaluating the economic transformational processes using three main criteria of assessment: sustainability, safety, and the competitive advantages of the tourism industry subject. The article presents several scenarios for implementing the model of economic transformation of the competitive potential of the tourism industry entity, describing them as inertial, pessimistic, optimistic, and realistic. Depending on the scenario, a differentiated approach to a mechanism and the corresponding institutional infrastructure for economic transformation of the competitive potential of tourism industry entities are developed. The research findings indicate that the highlighted methodological concept can ensure a high level of development of competitive potential for tourism industry entities.
The tourism industry is extremely important to the world economy; yet, the industry falls short when it comes to economic, social, and environmental issues. Blockchain as an information technology ...can be utilized to help solve these issues and establish sustainable tourism globally. However, the challenges to blockchain adoption in the tourism industry have not yet been examined systematically. The goal of this study, therefore, is three-fold: we first identify the challenges to blockchain using literature review and expert opinions. Then, we examine them using the proposed rough Interpretive Structural Modeling - Cross-Impact Matrix Multiplication based on expert judgments. Finally, we link these challenges to diffusion of innovation theory. The results suggest that “lack of technical maturity” and “lack of interoperability” are the most important challenges of blockchain in the tourism industry. The findings of the study support macro- and micro-level decision-making in tourism industry's prospective applications of blockchain.
Self-service technology (SST) and its applications are changing the way the hospitality and tourism industry provides products and services to their customers. Although the use of SST is a remarkable ...change for service providers because its use can meet customers’ pursuit of an efficient life, research provides a sufficient overview of how the usage of SST influences customers’ service experience in the tourism and hospitality settings remains lacking. Thus, this study aims to provide an understanding of previous SST research and a basis for exploring the influential factors regarding SST adoption. To achieve this purpose, SST papers in leading hospitality and tourism academic journals were reviewed. Although the number of articles is limited, content analysis allows the authors to understand a phenomenon and identify research topics and methods in SST studies. Also, this study contributes to existing SST literature by providing future research guidelines.
In the era of development, the world is facing severe challenges, and environmental degradation is one of them. However, the globe has tried to introduce several initiatives to fight for ...environmental sustainability, such as the Sustainable Development Goals. The leading role of the proposed goals is to balance development and environmental anxiety. Therefore, to these issues, artificial intelligence and technological advancements play a vital role in the natural resource economy in the digital age. Policy analysts are always looking for solutions and have come up with several viable remedies to this problem. Consequently, information & communication technology (ICT) plays a significant role in sustainability in the digital era. However, under the theme of natural resource sustainability, the effectiveness of ICT has a significant impact on sustainability. Accordingly, the current study investigates the long-run effect of income per capita, tourism, natural resources rents, urbanization, and ICT on environmental sustainability in 36 OECD economies from 2000 to 2018. The current research employs an Augmented Mean Group (AMG) and two-step GMM to investigate the study's objectives. Results show the positive contribution of urbanization, natural resources, and tourism to CO2 emissions, while ICT reduces emissions. Besides, an inverted EKC curve is also validated for selected economies. In addition, the moderate effect of ICT on urbanization, natural resources, and tourism shows a significant decline in CO2 emissions. In light of the findings, this study recommends several crucial measures for environmental sustainability.

The objective of this study was to determine waste management practices influencing the operational performance of hotels in Lagos State, Nigeria using 120 structured questionnaire that was ...administered to 20 hotels. Results showed that waste management practices in hotels are very important (3.83), while levels of their operational performance is to a large extent (3.16). Linear Regression showed that waste reduction, reuse and recycling practices (β = 0.383), waste collection and depositing practices (β = 0.413) and waste composting and treatment practices (β = 0.258) significantly (p<0.05) influenced the operational performance of hotels in the study area. The study concluded that waste reduction, reuse, recycling, waste collection, depositing, composting and treatment practices are important contributors in determining the operational performance of hotels. It was recommended that waste management guiding principles, framework and policies be developed and communicated to all stakeholders for proper and effective implementation.

The reconciliation algorithm proposed by Hyndman et al. (

) is based on a generalized least squares estimator that requires an estimate of the covariance matrix of the coherency errors (i.e., the errors that arise due to incoherence). We show that this matrix is impossible to estimate in practice due to identifiability conditions.
We propose a new forecast reconciliation approach that incorporates the information from a full covariance matrix of forecast errors in obtaining a set of coherent forecasts. Our approach minimizes the mean squared error of the coherent forecasts across the entire collection of time series under the assumption of unbiasedness. The minimization problem has a closed-form solution. We make this solution scalable by providing a computationally efficient representation.
We evaluate the performance of the proposed method compared to alternative methods using a series of simulation designs which take into account various features of the collected time series. This is followed by an empirical application using Australian domestic tourism data. The results indicate that the proposed method works well with artificial and real data. This study explores the tourism industry's cash-driven resilience capabilities. To map these capabilities, it enhances the existing analytical approaches to develop the two-dimensional evaluation of ...cash holdings of tourism businesses from four Central European Countries. The empirical investigation indicates that the non-resilient companies prevail over the resilient ones. If we consider the tourism industry sectors, cash-driven resilience capabilities differ statistically significantly at businesses size level but do not differ at the country level. It is observed that companies with greater cash-driven resilience capabilities are distinguished by a higher profitability and are less financially constrained. This study contributes to the ongoing debate on the COVID-19 impacts on the tourism industry by specifying the importance of financial slack and cash holdings in determining the resilience capabilities. In this respect, this study highlights the desired directions of system interventions and managerial concerns.
The purpose of this research is to investigate the influence of the halal supply chain on the halal tourism industry and economic growth. The idea was tested using quantitative methodology in this ...study. The research instrument was a questionnaire filled out by the respondents. The participants in this study were MSME actors in the tourism industry in Banten Province, Indonesia. For this study, 113 participants were selected using purposive sampling, and data were analyzed using a structural equation model (SEM). The findings from this study are that the halal supply chain has a positive and statistically significant effect on the halal tourism industry. In addition, the halal supply chain and the halal tourism industry affect economic growth. These findings contribute as additional literature for further research that the halal supply chain is an essential factor for the halal tourism industry in Indonesia.

Design/Methodology/Approach: In order to meet the study objective, we adopted the univariate time series forecasting of tourist arrival. The AR(12) and MA(12) process with d(1) order to specify the appropriate model also applied for forecasting selection of international tourist arrivals, after diagnostic checking of series through correlogram Q-statistics and correlogram of residuals for adjusted ARIMA (12,1,12) in which we found low residual against 70 lags.
Results: The evidence predicts that in the next nine months, Thailand will face significant negative zone arrival of international tourists due to the COVID-19 pandemic crises, which adversely affect Thailand’s economy due to the shortfall of international tourist arrivals. However decline in tourist arrival will eventually decrease air pollution in Thailand, thus it positively impact on environmental quality.
Limitation of the investigation: In terms of limitation of this study, this forecasting is only valid for Thailand based on historical and current data.
Practical implications: We highly recommend government of Thailand for enchasing overall logistics performance and furthermore increase use to renewable energy and green performance in their tourism sector.
Originality / Value: This study provides tourism forecasting estimation for Thailand, which can help government to reshape their tourism policies due to Covid-19 pandemic crises. As this study is the first attempt to provide forecasting related with Covid-19 for tourism sector.
