Project implementations normally fail due to sustainable development problems that inhibit the usage levels required to facilitate successful implementations. This paper explores the successful ...implementation from a Bangladesh perspective. In particular, it identifies the possible applications of Blockchain in project procurement and management, and it develops a guideline for incorporating Blockchain into project management to improve the existing project and the procurement management practices in developing countries. This is a qualitative study with an interpretivist research methodology. By adopting an interpretive approach, this study construes knowledge as that only gained through social constructions, such as language, shared meanings, documents, industry reports, reviews of academic papers, and tools; it is a changing and relative phenomenon. This study reveals that developing countries are suffering in terms of the development of projects, including poor project management, a lack of transparency, poor procurement management, etc. A total of 38 issues were identified through this study, which are the main barriers to the successful implementation of public sector projects. One of the main reasons is due to the practice of awarding the lowest bidder during the procurement process due to the current regulatory requirements. This paper found that the Oracle platform, built on Blockchain technology as a cloud-computing platform, is one of the prominent E-procurement platforms that provides both the Blockchain platform and the cloud-based applications. Therefore, after observing and analysing the platform, it is found that Blockchain technology has the capability to resolve 25 issues out of 38 identified issues.
The transepidermal water loss (TEWL) and the skin wettedness factor (SWF) are considered parts of a key perspective related to skincare. The former is used to determine the loss of water content from ...the stratum corneum (SC), while the latter is used to determine the human skin comfort level. Herein, we developed two novel approaches: (1) determination of the TEWL and the SWF based on a battery-free humidity sensor, and (2) the design of a battery-free smart skincare sensor device tag that can harvest energy from a near field communication (NFC)-enabled smartphone, making it a battery-free design approach. The designed skincare device tag has a diameter of 2.6 cm and could harvest energy (~3 V) from the NFC-enabled smartphone. A series of experimental tests involving the participation of eight and six subjects were conducted in vivo for the indoor and outdoor environments, respectively. During the experimental analysis, the skin moisture content level was measured at different times of the day using an android smartphone. The TEWL and SWF values were calculated based on these sensor readings. For the TEWL case: if the skin moisture is high, the TEWL is high, and if the skin moisture is low, the TEWL is low, ensuring that the skin moisture and the TEWL follow the same trend. Our smart skincare device is enclosed in a 3D flexible design print, and it is battery-free with an android application interface that is more convenient to carry outside than other commercially available battery-based devices.
In computerized numerical control (CNC) systems, the communication bus between the controller and axis servo drives must offer high bandwidth, noise immunity, and time determinism. More and more CNC ...systems use real-time Ethernet protocols such as Ethernet Powerlink (EPL). Many modern controllers are closed costly hardware-based solutions. In this paper, the implementation of EPL communication bus in a PC-based CNC system is presented. The CNC system includes a PC, a software CNC controller running under Linux Real-Time Application Interface real-time operating system and servo drives communicating via EPL. The EPL stack was implemented as a real-time kernel module. Due to software-only implementation, this system is a cost-effective solution for a broad range of applications in machine control. All software systems are based on GNU General Public License or Berkeley Software Distribution licenses. Necessary modifications to the EPL stack, Linux configurations, computer basic input/output system, and motherboard configurations were presented. Experimental results of EPL communication cycle jitter on three different PCs were presented. The results confirm good performance of the presented system.

•User experience of word-by-word feedback displays for smartphones/palm tablets were tested.•Participants reported higher satisfaction with the static and dynamic WBW than CBC.•SLOW typists performed ...better with dynamic WBW than CBC.•SLOW typists looked at the text display less while typing with WBW than CBC.
When typing on smartphones or palm tablets, users generally make an effort to type correctly while simultaneously checking the small keyboard and the text display. Unlike physical keyboards that allow users to perform typing based on long-term muscle memory, virtual keyboards typically require more frequent eye movements between the keyboard and the text display areas.
This study proposes a new way of designing a virtual keyboard display to reduce the effort associated with frequent eye-movements. For this study, we developed virtual keyboard display systems featuring both static and dynamic word-by-word (WBW) feedback displays. The two display systems were examined in comparison with a more conventional method known as character-by-character (CBC) feedback display. We investigated user satisfaction, typing performance and the user’s eye gaze shifts. Eye gaze shifts were measured between the keyboard and the text display areas across the three conditions using self-report, log, and eye-tracking measures. In the static WBW condition, the words being typed displayed in a fixed area at the top of the virtual keyboard; in the dynamic WBW display, the words displayed in a small popup window at the tip of the selected key.
Using a repeated measure experiment for the three display conditions, participants were asked to type fifteen phrases using a palm tablet while wearing eye-tracking glasses for each condition. We conducted a mixed-model design ANOVA with group (SLOW vs. FAST typing; men vs. women) as between-subject factors and display condition (CBC vs. WBW). We found a significant (11%) improvement in typing speed with the dynamic WBW over the CBC display for less experienced keyboard users. In addition, participants reported higher satisfaction with the two WBW conditions than the CBC condition. Eye fixations, dwell times, and heat map data also supported that WBW displays are advantageous for less experienced, slower typists by helping them stay focused more on the keyboard, thus reducing eye transitions to the text display. Our study systematically demonstrates how and to what extent the virtual keyboard display strategy influences typing performance and subjective experience based on self-reports and eye-tracking measures. The approach and findings of this study should provide useful information and practical guidance to mobile application developers and designers who are interested in improving virtual keyboard functionalities and user satisfaction.
This study endeavored to enhance the efficiency and utility of microcomputer meters. In the past, their role was predominantly confined to remote meter reading, entailing high construction and ...communication transmission costs, coupled with subsequent maintenance and operational expenditures. These factors collectively impacted the enthusiasm of various stakeholders to invest in this realm. Hence, in alignment with the smart city development initiative, the natural gas industry has pioneered the establishment of an advanced metering infrastructure with heterogeneous wireless sensor networks (HWSNs) at its core. This visionary leap incorporates global machine-to-machine connectivity (G-M2MC) technology, interconnecting all facets of its operations, thereby positioning itself as a trailblazer within the industry. While advancing this endeavor, the project’s scheduling aligns with the enterprise’s sustainability goals in the early stages of digital transformation. This strategic allocation of resources is responsive to government policies and aspires to cultivate a digitally connected smart green energy hub, thereby expediting the transformation of the living environment. The objective is to provide a stable, secure, cost-effective, and reliable system that can be shared among peers. Furthermore, this study delved into the analysis of congestion avoidance in intelligent Zigbee satellite transport networks based on the HWSNs-GM2MC of non-synchronous satellite orbit system (NGSO) pivotal technologies, utilizing them to integrate the smart LNGas management system (SGMS). Concurrently, it developed application services through the smart meter application interface (SMAPI), distinct from conventional microcomputer meters. However, it is imperative to acknowledge that cloud computing, while processing sensitive data, grapples with issues of latency, privacy, efficiency, power consumption, and zero-trust security risk information management and ethical authority management capabilities in the defense of disaster relief responses.
Sun tanning is a process in which color of the skin changes, while staying in the sun for a prolong time, caused by the ultraviolet (UV) radiations. In this study, we developed a novel, smart, ...skincare RGB color device that can detect the change in RGB color of the skin. The device could also harvest its energy from the near field communication (NFC) enabled smartphone, thus providing battery-less approach for the skincare support. Our smart skincare RGB device is integrated with two sensors: One for the detection of skin RGB color, and another for the detection of UV radiations from the sun. Based on the in vivo experimental results on different subjects, it was noted that different subjects were having different skin color types, therefore; change in RGB was different for each subject. Android application interface has also been provided in order to make the usage of this skincare device at ease. Finally, our smart skincare device is enclosed in a flexible 3D object that provides a very easy and convenient way to use, while taking it in the outside environment.
